I've been working on a living dex full of entirely traded Pokémon. It was really easy to do when X/Y and Bank first dropped. Haven't done much with the later generations. I call it the lottery dex.

Yeah, it has been insane. When this video was released, I was nearly complete with the first version of my own spreadsheet. I was thinking this was a bit much too when I first heard about it from seeing the previous videos, but I had a lot of the games and hardware already and decided I would attempt it and try my best. 5-6 months later and I'm 60% done after playing nearly nothing but pokemon.

I only started making individual games' living dexes with Legends, but it's something I intend to continue going forwards. Over time, this will eventually lead to a full living dex, albeit not from the Pokémon's original games.

Stantler and Ursaring are originally from the Johto region. Unfortunately Colosseum nor XD take place in Johto, and most Pokémon in this challenge are supposed to come from their original region.

Well not having all the games has actually helped me do this challenge faster. When I would acquire a new game it often times would have a save file with a fair amount of pokemon already caught and or all the gyms beaten. Saved me a LOT of time

Literally been doing something similar to this! While I am not doing the forms or "most special version of a Pokémon" part, I am doing original region for everything! Using FRLG for Kanto, RSE for Hoenn, HGSS for Johto, and DPPt for Sinnoh!

Great to see this update. I'll be honest though, I'm not necessarily doing this challenge as I've started doing my own along the way. (Apologies for this being so long.) Ever since my first Living Dex back in XY, I've been striving to improve it and make it better. Then you released your first Living Dex challenge and I used that as my base for my own, with additions from your newer versions. That being said, here's my current list: - All Kanto Pokémon from VC RBY. Exception bring Mew which is from Pokémon Ranch. - All Johto Pokémon from VC GSC. Exception being new evolutions from Kanto VC, Ho-oh from Colosseum, Lucian from XD, and Celebi from Crystal. - All Hoenn Pokémon from RSE. Exceptions being Glalie from ORAS demo, Jirachi from channel (I have the colosseum bonus disc as well, but as I'm in the US, I figured getting it from Channel would be more of a challenge), and Deoxys from ORAS. - All Sinton Pokémon from DPPL. Exceptions being new evolutions being from base form home region, Electivire and Magmortar from Battle Rev, and Ranger Manaphy. - All Unova Pokémon from BWB2W2. Forces of nature from Dream Radar. - All Kalos Pokémon from XY. Exceptions being Sylveon from GSC, Greninja from SM demo. - All Alola Pokémon from SMUSUM. Meltan and Melmetal from Pokémon Go. - All Galar Pokémon from SwSh. Exceptions being Mr. Rime from DPPL. - Hisui still be worked on to get new evolutions from past generations. - All Alolan forms from Alola, except Raichu from Battle Rev, Exeggutor from RBY, Marowak from RBY. - All Galarian forms from Galar, except Weezing from RBY and Mr. Mime from DPPL. - Working on getting Hisuian forms from past generations. - All Mega Evolutions (just the Pokémon that do so) from Gen 6. - All Gigantamax Pokémon (Pokémon with giganamax factor) from Gen 8. - All Unown from GSC, ! Box 2 is unused until I do Hisui Pokéballs. - A Pikachu from every generation and remake and Go (for instance one from RBY, GSC, RSE, FRLG, and so on.) - And finally, I have boxes set up for an Alpha Pokémon Living Dex. So a Hisui Living Dex off all Alpha Pokémon and their forms/variants. This person challenge has been going on for me since 2013/2014. I'm very proud of how far I've gotten, but I'm constantly thinking of ways to improve or add to it. But until I complete all the Hisui stuff (planning to do that by the time Gen 9 releases) I'll be focusing on that instead of adding more stuff. Then I'll start doing Gen 9 stuff when that comes out.

I've been inspired by this, not to do exactly this but I do want to challenge myself somewhat. RULES: - Kanto mon from VC Gen 1 - Johto mon from VC Gen 2 - Hoenn mon from... Hoenn (I don't have Gen 3 games, but if they become available on NSO or something I'll do it) - Sinnoh mon Diamond, Pearl & Platinum - The rest of the regions from those regions - Guaranteed shinies aren't really gonna count EXCEPTIONS: - Kanto Starters, Fossils and Legendaries should read from Johto in VC Gen 2 (since they don't naturally generate in Gen 2) - Raichu evolves from the Pikachu rewarded from Heahea Beach in USUM - Tentacool (possibly evolving it into Tentacruel as well) comes from Cianwood City - Scyther & Pinsir from HGSS Bug Catching Contest - If a cross-generational evolution comes from a Kanto mon, it should read from Let's Go, with one exception I'll get to later (ones involving other generations have similar rules to you) - Mew, Celebi and Deoxys have the same rules as you, but Jirachi is from BDSP because the Gamecube game is expensive - Glalie from ORAS Demo - Spiritomb from Legends Arceus - Munchlax from BDSP because I'm a coward - Froslass from GO because I'm proud that I was able to get it - Manaphy and Phione from BDSP but the other Sinnoh Mythicals from Legends Arceus (Arceus itself is likely since it is the mascot legend) - I'll take your word for Victini - N's Legacy Pokémon (and evolutions?) will be those - Therian forms of the Genies will be from Dream Radar - Greninja from the SM Demo - Sylveon will be generated in BDSP out of protest - Alolan forms from Let's Go if possible - As many Totem Pokémon as possible (ok this causes issues for Alolan Raticate, but I think I'll keep Rattata from Let's Go but have Totem Raticate if possible) - Alolan Vulpix and Ninetales from Legends Arceus - Although Galarian Mr. Mime will be from Gen 4 Sinnoh, Mr. Rime will be from an Alpha Mime Jr. in Legends Arceus (idk about other Alphas tho) - Anything that has a Galarian form should have their original versions from Galar (Galarian Forms bar Weezing and Mr. Mime from Galar) - Anything that has a Hisuian evolution should have the original from Hisui, with the Hisuian forms being from the original games (if its Hisui exclusive then its from Hisui) - if possible, cross-generation baby Pokémon should be from the remakes of their parents' games. If FRLG get put on NSO or something its possible for the Gen 1 mon that got it in Gen 2. But the ones that got them in Gen 4 should be from Sinnoh. I think that's all give or take the Pokémon with superficial form changes/have an excessive number of forms

Two recommendations to make this a bit harder off the top of my head are Meowth and the Legendary Beasts (Raikou, Entei, and Suicune). A trainer next to Scott's house in the Battle Frontier will trade you a Meowth for a Skitty. There are more trades that could also be used, but you have to beat the entire main game to do this one, so it's probably the "hardest" trade to do in the series. You can also get one Legendary Beast in FRLG, depending on the starter you chose.

Little error in the video that I don't know if anyone has pointed out At 9:20, Toby says you can get Mew in BD/SP if you have "save data of Pokemon Go on your switch", this might be misunderstood as having pokemon home installed with pokemon from pokemon go in it, this is not the case Pokemon Go is a mobile game and is not available on switch, what he meant was if you have save data of Pokemon "Let's" Go (Pikachu or Eevee, doesn't matter which version) on your switch, you can get Mew in BD/SP

This is a great project to take on, but I have to say that there's one Pokemon project that I am more biased towards - collecting every breedable Pokemon in every available Rareball (Apricorn Balls, Dream Ball, Safari Ball, Sport Ball, and Beast Ball) with their hidden abilities, egg moves, and regional variants (where applicable). I undertook this mammoth task in 2020-21 during COVID and it is by far my favorite part about Pokemon now to the point that I actively look for what new combinations will be available in every new game. Hope you think about making a video about this topic too!!

Coming back to his video for a refresh. I have the first 5 generations done along with 8 and 9. 6 is almost done but 7 has a ways to go. There's the odd version exclusive that I'm missing but that just requires a quick playthrough. The gender variants and transfering stuff up for regional forms (Giraffarig from silver to S/V for instance) takes time.

It's funny the timing you posted this video, because I decided to do a very similar challenge but...a bit more over the top (I think I've posted this idea here on one of your old videos too). Effectively it's the same challenge that you've set up, but it's every single Pokemon from every single game version. So a Pokemon that comes from Pokemon Blue VC is a "Blue Pokemon" and a Pokemon that comes from Yellow VC is a "Yellow Pokemon." The Pokemon essentially needs to spawn within that specific game's code in order to count. So you can transfer a Pokemon up into the next Generation and hatch an egg to make the pokemon "spawn within" that given game. This idea goes all the way through the Generations collecting every single pokemon while making exceptions for exceedingly rare Pokemon like Lugia from Gale of Darkness or Sudowoodo from the Battle Frontier. The only snag in this challenge is that you need a bunch of space to store these Pokemon in which I'm trying to find the most optimal way to do so, but it requires THOUSANDS of empty box spaces. Pokemon HOME can't hold them all So I'll probably end of making "box accounts" of BDSP, SWSH, and Scarlet and Violet when they are released. All in all, it's a challenge I've been working on because it's like packing up everything and bringing the old Generation with me as they inevitably phase out the older games. Thankfully I have several completed National Dexes and already have access to all the games I need thanks to years of collecting since Gen 2, so hopefully I can get everything done before the Bank gets Thanos Snapped too.

@@Leto85 there are certain things yoou can do to make gen 2 odds better. like breeding a shiny with a none shiny from a different game increases odd because shinies can be passed down from parent. theres also the ditto mimic thing too which basically gives you the best odds in gen 2 of 1/64 for eggs. gen 1 shinies are another story. you have to look for corresponding stats to determine the DVs and then when you transfer to gen 2 or HOME they are shiny

@@shinyhunteraaron2527 That last part I knew, but the first sounds new to me. 1/64 sounds like incredible high odds for legit shiny hunting. Amazing. I may try it out some day. For now I'm working on hatching old Pokepark eggs in Gen 3 Emerald to fill up my livingdex with Pokémon with rare moves. I have to save often though since I don't know what is in what egg and when I breed a Kanto min, I restart and go back to before the hatching so I can transfer that egg to FireRed. Working on one Gen at a time is doable for me.

My suggestion is to make the base Rotom form to be from the Diamond/Pearl event, then make the additional forms be from PLA. They’re a 5% encounter, so are fairly rare, and the items are super expensive and unlikely to appear in the shop, so much more of a grind than the secret key item.

I have an event Mewtwo in let’s go pikachu from Best Buy one of the very limited events they had, and I also managed to catch a shiny Onyx as well, and a shiny Caterpie in fire red. Is that okay?

I did a living dex mission similar to this though with some differences: - I didn’t do the special Pokémon for this instead I caught every Pokémon from their original region - I caught Gender differences from their origin games (so you need to reset Pokémon RB multiple times to get the 6 bulbasaurs along with the 3 charmander and squirtle) - In order for gender differences to stand out the rest of the dex is unified gender wise (so if you have the female differences as the gender difference mons the rest of the Pokémon HAVE to be male meaning you have to look up a Gen 1 DV calculator to ensure genders) - Every Pokémon that’s catchable HAS to be in a pokeball (gen 1 and 2 are easy since they automatically become Pokeballs but you need to catch every legend from gen 3-5 in a Pokeball which is easier said than done) - Every Pokemon has to be unified by OT, so you need to have the same name through every game I also did a Form Dex (all the forms, gender differences, GMax, and once I finish it all Alpha pokemon) along with a in game trade Dex (basically every in game trade from Gen 1-8 with the exclusion of XD’s trades are required including Haley Yancy and Curtis’ trades) Then I have a section of extra mons that have special things like Battle Bond Greninja, Body Construct Zygarde, Zen Mode Dar and GDar, the Premature GMax mons, and eventually the Forbidden Alpha mons (just alpha mons who can’t go back since their evos aren’t in the game) I had a lot of fun and the discord Toby has actually helped me a ton with this (I got all the vivillon forms along with a Mirage island Wynaut) I hope everyone starting their collecting journey has a good time and hope you can achieve what you want!

Haha, I'm definitely NOT up for the challenge, but I think it's a cool one. Personally I'm much more interested in creatinge Ribbon masters, pokemon that you obtain all ribbons on as you transfer them through the generations. I'm not near completing that either but it suits my play style more, developing a relationship with one or a few pokemon. Would be fun to see you cover that challenge as well, there's a great subreddit devoted to it!

Also the BW2 trading sidequest work is GENDER specific not game specific I'm pretty sure, so not B2 vs W2. Also, the XD starters for Mt Battle all have a move they still cannot learn with the hyper-beam elemental move, so I would say keep those in their base form and at least 1 of the evolved starters to be the Emerald completion.

I've been working on this challenge alongside a Living Dex and so far I finished Gen 1 and almost done with Gen 3. Its been a lot of fun so far and I've even started a Ribbon Master challenge with the shiny Entei I hunted in Colosseum (dont ask how long THAT took).

Actually, I heard that while the 3DS shop is closing in 2023, as long as you download Pokémon Bank by that point, you can still use it for transfers. Not to mention it’ll be free after that point as opposed to the $5 a year or whatever it costs.

Phione is from My Pokémon Ranch, which was a hard find and from Sinnoh, but I think you've forgotten this one in this challenge. Mew is also available via Pokémon Ranch, but that doesn't register as Kanto.

I've been on a version of this challenge for a while. One thing I would add as a gold star is the Agate Celebi (not sure if you can use this pokemon to obtain Zorua in gen 5 but maybe that is possible too). There are also e-reader pokemon (colosseum), but those might be too difficult to get. Maybe it is possible to download an image of the dot code and use it in the e-reader. Pokemon box (ruby and sapphire) also has some rare pokemon you can obtain too. In hgss there are radio pokemon you can obtain with special passwords. This challenge is very difficult, but having to play in different languages and fully complete games makes it much more difficult. If anyone wants to add these additional requirements, feel free. It is also possible to use the cute charm glitch in gen 4 to help with a shiny dex (I consider them legit but I can understand why some might not). If you really want to take this challenge to another level, try getting as many of the mythical pokemon as you can in their shiny variants (currently going for Darkrai).

I just started this challenge a gew months ago and I am still working on completing the challenge. I'm already done with Gens 6-8 and I just started Gens 1 and 2 last week and those have been the most fun so far since Gen 1 has very easy to manipulate catching mechanics outside of the Safari Zone. However I did get very lucky yesterday and caught two Dratini in one Safari Game. One for my Gen 1 Dex Dragonite and one for my Master Dex Dragonair.

@@Chris-xt6yp Me too but looking at the story deeper I realized that despite basically being a complete copy paste of Cyrus's plan and Trevor and Tierno being the most boring rivals of all time, I do think the world design is one of the best. Places like Frost Cavern and Route 19 are very pleasant to look at and of course the Route 15 and 18 themes are also a major highlight. I used to think XY was one of the worst games I've ever played but now I think it's an ok game.

Just recently I've made it a project to do just this. I've restored and modded a Wii, GBA, ds, and 3ds so I can play/transfer up all pokemon on legitimate hardware. Obtaining real games is by far the hardest part of the project but the hardware and it's limitations are what make the experience. After some testing I'm still able to link gen 3 to GameCube for colloseum/DX/Box, able to transfer from GBA to DS with a DSlite, and able to read the DS cartridge with transfer on 3ds. There's always more to do. My current project is printing E Reader cards, managed to run an EON ticket a few days ago. One day I hope to afford a pokewalker. Playing through Soul Silver again has brought back a lot of good memories hiking and fishing with my dad and typhlosion

I'm currently working on my own version of a Master Livingdex. The rules are simple: 1. All Pokemon (if possible) with my OT 2. All Pokemon (if possible) in matching Pokeballs 3. Scyther and pinsir will not kept in the sport ball if it is transfer up through the VC. All Pokémon transferred up from the Gen 1 or Gen 2 VC will always be in a pokeball.

I don’t think you should count furfrou from Pokémon go, as a pogo player getting all furfrou trims is quite possibly the hardest collection you can get. They’re all regional forms except for like 3, but even then the heart trim you can only get during the valentines event. The regions you have to get them from are: La Reine from France, Kabuki from Japan, Pharaoh from Egypt, Debutante in the Americas, Diamond from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the star trim from Asia and Australia (it’s the same as the lake trio for those 3), and then the Matron and Dandy trim are available world-wide. So yeah I think that gets a pass if anyone even attempted that they would go flat broke right after going to all those places.
