Sometimes I need a hole saw drill bit, but I don't want to spend too much money on it. I don't mind to spend money on good tools, but hole saw is not something I use often. It's kind of like spending 10 - 15 euros just to drill a hole...at least it my case.
In this video I am trying to find out if a tin can could be used to drill a hole.
Result was very good. You can drill plastic, acrylic, drywall and other easy to drill materials.
It did not do a good job in drilling wood.

Last time I spent around 10 - 15 euros on a drill bit that I only used for 1 project...that project did not make it to KZbin. I could have bought hole saw drill bits on the internet, but I needed it the same day, so the only option was to buy it locally. I don’t mind to spend that kind of money on drill bits, but to honest, hole saw is not something I use very often. In this video, I wanted to see if something simple as tin can could replace an expensive hole saw.

your can needs a hole on each side of the can, this will allow for air to cool the can so the heat from cutting does not get so hot, plus it helps for removing any piece you are cutting that may get stuck in the can, but pretty cool demonstration.

Try using a piece of metal conduit sometime with teeth filed into it. Works pretty well if you make the teeth correctly.

Only if I were 50 miles from town. It takes longer to do what you did than it would to heat the can and melt through thin plastic and trim it.
@ShakeTheFuture

I did not mention it in the video, but it took me around 15 minutes to make it + you can use it a few times before throwing it away. Heating the can is also a good idea. Cheers!

For 15 euro you can buy a set of bits. Those are not super high quality, but reliable for DIY job. And because its a set, you will see which diameter is what you use the most.

Always Keep the Receipt. Take the Hole Bit Back when done drilling all your holes. This is a Great Idea and works in a pinch for Light Duty. About the only reason why I think you had a hard time going through the Particle Board was because you didn't sharpen the teeth you made. Won't stay sharp for long but will cut down on the burning and smoke from being completely dull (metal too soft to hold a edge for too long). I Guess if you didn't own a Dremel, you could use a Hacksaw and there fore this would be a "Hack" and putting the word "Hack" in the title would actually be one of the Few Times it gets used Correctly and Fittingly :)
@ShakeTheFuture

Yes, i could have done a better job in sharpening it. Thank You for the suggestion.

Pretty impressive for a tin can. However the product may have been better if he offset the teeth like on a real blade.

Good deal for people like me I'm not rich. You better wear gloves while cutting with that sharp can your fingers are very close to it. You don't want to injure them.

Так а ты знаешь из-за чего дым идёт у твоего "произведения" ? И почему на синем тазу было отчетливо видно распавленный пластик. Потому что твоя хрень режет трением. Фигня это всё

Thanks for the feedback!Yes, I could have sharpened the teeth better to minimize the friction. It might be useless for some people, but it works very good for me. I don't care if the hole was cut with the friction or not, what matters is the result. Cheers!
