Why didn't you print the whole knife standing up?
@ShakeTheFuture8 күн бұрын
I tried printing it upright, but the blade didn’t come out as sharp, and the print quality wasn’t as clean. I think the blade is a bit too thin and flexible to print upright. That said, I only tried it once-maybe with some adjustments, like slowing down the printing speed or printing multiple blades at once, it could come out better. Anyway, printing it this way was easier and faster. I mentioned this is my first knife, though technically, it’s my first if you don’t count the butter knife I made in another video. I really like the butter knife, but I don’t use it since it’s made of brass. I want to remake it in stainless steel. In the butter knife videos, I mentioned wanting to use stainless steel, but I wasn’t sure if I could melt that much of it. Now, I’m leaning toward “yes,” since I did some tests using a slightly different microwave metal melting setup. If I remake that knife, I’ll most likely print it upright, as it’s much thicker. Cheers!

Very interesting, this method seems to work very efficient. The energy transfer goes through the walls of the insulation, so that no holes for burners or electrical heating are needed. That's brilliant 😉 And then there is that magic moment when you pour the lava into the mold 🤩 PS: Are you not worried about handling fire on your balcony?
@ShakeTheFuture8 күн бұрын
Thanks! No, I’m not worried about the fire. I've been doing this for years, and sure, I've had minor accidents, but that's how I learned what to do and what not to do. In my case, I see it as safe as any other metal melting method indoors-similar to the small jewelry businesses that do metal casting indoors. I'm working with tiny amounts of metal, so even in the worst-case scenario, if I spilled a crucible full of molten metal, there would be hardly anything that could catch fire. Switching from a wooden table to a metal one was one of the last steps I took to improve safety. I’d never attempt the massive meltdowns that other channels do indoors! 😄

Thank you! It all depends on how you look at it. I've been on KZbin for over 10 years, so it's not like I started the channel 3 months ago and am complaining that nobody is watching. I worked on these microwave metal melting and kiln-making videos for over 5 years before I started publishing them. If you go back and watch my older videos, you'll see that I rarely asked people to like or share them. It never felt like the right thing to do, and I still don't feel comfortable doing it-but if big KZbinrs can, why shouldn’t I? Just the other day, someone I know asked for a raise at work, and they got it. I commented, “Of course. That's the rule of life: if you don't ask, you don't get.” This is how I see it. I know there are people who enjoy these videos, and if they can help me out by doing these small things to support the channel, I don’t see it as a problem. I see it as one human being helping another-something sincere and natural. It’s not like I’m running a vlog or other content I can fabricate 24/7. I invest a lot of time into these videos, and I think it’s only normal to ask for help when help is needed. I didn’t want to go into this, but here we are... You know why I don’t have power tools? Yes, one reason is the noise, because I live in an apartment, but there's another reason: I sold my drills and grinders to continue making these microwave metal melting videos. There were times when I couldn’t afford all the materials to keep experimenting, so I had to sell my tools. What I'm trying to say is, it’s been a long journey, and at the end of the day, I know that there are people who enjoy what I share. The better my channel is doing, more videos I can make. Thanks again for taking time to leave a comment.

Just wanted to let you know that I cut out the part where I talked about the KZbin algorithm not recommending my videos. I'm mentioning it in case anyone wonders what you were referring to. For future viewers: There was a section in the video where I asked my viewers to like the video if they enjoyed it and check out another video that, in my opinion, was overlooked by the algorithm. I decided to cut that part out because this video isn't performing very well either, and I wanted to keep it shorter. That section was easy to remove without affecting the rest of the content

what plaster do you use to make the mold?
@ShakeTheFuture8 күн бұрын
Normally, I use construction plaster mixed with sand or plaster of Paris mixed with sand. This time, I tried a professional investment powder, "PRESTIGE UNICAST." I like it, but I find it cracks a lot. I don't think it's the fault of the product-maybe it really needs to be used inside a metal flask, or a proper, slow burnout is required. Another possibility is that it doesn’t hold up well to microwaving, so it might need to be wrapped in foil until the end of the burnout. I actually haven’t tried that with this investment yet. I’ll need to give it a shot. Cheers!

Hello, from what I found, there is a chance that PVB could be better filament than PLA for making castings (it does not leave any ash in classic melting of the mold, but this does not apply to Your method). It can be smoothed with isopropyl alcohol so that the layers lines are not visible (technically, Polycast is designed for making castings, but it turns out that it is PVB, and I found ordinary pure PVB from other companies 3x cheaper than Polycast), apparently it prints similarly to PLA and in castings it gives much better results than PLA thanks to smoothing. Would you be able to check what the castings from smoothed PVB prints look like? Is it better/worse or is there no difference between these two filaments in the end ;) .
@ShakeTheFuture9 күн бұрын
I’ve never tried it, but you’re not the first to suggest it. I’m actually very happy with how PLA burns out, especially translucent PLA-it doesn’t leave any ash as far as I can tell, though colored PLA does. Even if I spilled metal on the floor, nothing would ignite. So, I wouldn’t say my work area is an accident waiting to happen! 😀 I understand why it might look that way, but I can assure you that I’ve put a lot of thought into safety.
