So sad you had to explain the testing at the beginning. I can't for the life of me figure out what people have against others enjoying the game more. There are those that just can't afford lessons or have full time jobs and can't dedicate the time to a swing change. If they can go on ebay and spend $350 on a driver that increases enjoyment and they can shoot better scores in the few times they play a month what's wrong with that? Everything isn't for everyone lets just appreciate what is easily the best channel on youtube.

Great video guys! It is exactly what I did this summer. 3 handicapper that only plays about once a week. Had a epic sub zero and struggled with a hook. Did some research watching your channel and others and I went out and got fitted with the G 400max and has stabilized my tee balls so much I am hitting more fairways with hardly any loss in yards while hitting my preferred cut shot and I am now +0.2 currently. Big change when you are keeping it in play most holes!. Keep up the great content guys. Thanks!

I have found 2 Drivers that have helped me...In a fitting i was fit for the Cobra f8+ lofted at 11 degrees with a fujikura speedster evolution II shaft...this drastically helped me straighten my drives with a mid flight boring shot.....I also have the club you showed...the Ping G400 Max...this club gives me a much higher flight but with the same distance as the Cobra....just as you said...this is great but in high winds it could be a little bit of a issue...but both of these clubs helped me score way better by keeping the ball in the fairways!

Awesome video, I actually had a driver fitting recently (first one ever!), and although it wasn’t nearly as in depth and detailed as you guys might do, it was very enlightening as far as what I need for my game. I thought that, playing a fade, that I needed to get my spin and launch down, as it turns out I actually needed some launch and spin. I didn’t end up getting a new driver, but I used the adjustability of my current club to get it closer to the DNA of the head that was recommended, and two rounds in, I’m already seeing the benefits of backspin in stabilizing ballflight. Even into the wind, the accuracy of raising the MOI and spin, kept the ball more online and actually allowed it to pierce through the wind more efficiently. Especially in crosswinds, I saw the ball not curving with the wind as much, but holding its line much better. Great work as always!

This is my exactly, and only with my driver. I can't adjust my driver so I thought id put in a low spin, low launch shaft and it got worse! I now know why. What's frustrating is I'm hitting up on the ball, making a good swing etc. So I resorted to playing 3w, which lucky for me is long. This video has given me a lot to think about, ty. Txg always delivering the best content! Quick question guys, your description in this video mostly describes my ball flight, when I'm playing well my flight is a 5 yard push draw from the tee to fairway. I was " fitted " 6 years ago with a taylormade r11s with some minor adjustments to the weighting. The problem is I think the knowledge and competency back then wasn't up to par. It was at a golfsmith outlet as well. Could I get a much better fitting by todays standards with a reputable shop?

This one is me. Recent fit was in G400 lst @10 degrees turned down to 9. Great accuracy but spin (2700) and launch (15) was high-ish. Thought the 8.5 head would lower spin and it did but the curvature got much more aggressive. Could hit a few with better launch for more distance but not worth the loss in accuracy. Was in the ping tour 75 s. Would love to see what a fitting with more options could do

Another great video guys. Well done. You briefly touched on something I'd like to see a video for... The adjustable hosels change not only loft, but lie angle as well. I play Ping G400 fairway woods (3W, 5W), and I find they curve left to right excessively (I'm left handed). They are the only clubs I have this issue with. Can changing the hosel settings minimize that tendency to hook? What will the lie angle change do to the ball flight? I hit these woods mostly off the deck. Thanks!
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
G400 fairways are pretty upright to begin with, so you may have a hard time making an adjustments. You can lower the loft with the hosel but that's only going to help the face angle, and the lower loft will likely drop your launch and spin making your tendency to hook worse. See if you can demo something like the new Titleist TS fairway or Rogue SZ

So I quit golf for a while and now that I'm back I'm back to the hooks. I've got it under control with my TS3 10.5 @ .75 flat. A fade is much easier to control. You can talk to a fade/slice. I suffer from a hook, occasional spells of the duck hook that goes no distance at all say 220. I was using a TM M1 2016. 9.5 degree. My ball speed is 150, backspin 2000 and I launch at 16-19 degrees, I need this to get good distance and I appreciate it brings the risk of the hook with it. The hook comes into play when the backspin dives below 2000 the M1 would spin as low as 1100 and these would be the duck hooks 1600+ would probably be a long hook, 2000-2200 was perfect. I went to get fitted for a ping g400 max because I needed a fairway finder however I lost lots of distance with it. We eventually settled on what I perceived would be a low spinning driver and not for me - the callaway rogue. I couldn't get on with the 9 degree so went up to the next loft but dialled it back down, no doubt that affect on lie or face angle worked for me. So now I hit with same conditions as the M1 but the rogue keeps a healthy amount of backspin for me around 2500 negating the side spin. Hell I can even fade this club, that was never going to happen with the M1. So personally for me the ping was too high spinning at 3000. I couldn't believe it as that's what I went to buy based on KZbin and never expected the rogue would be suitable for me when I was looking to add spin. I could always fix the hook simply by moving the ball back and lowering the tee (traditional setup) BUT with that I lose a fair amount of distance so it's a trade off, the rogue atm seems to be able to keep me in play with my extreme setup conditions. I want/need 270+ yards and I can only achieve that at my ball speed with the extreme setup, massive tee, fwd ball, high of AoA. Like the videos, especially the detailed analysis love it.

Interesting. I just bought a ping G400 off the rack with some money I’d won in a tournament last week. I’ve been playing a 43.5” r7 taylormade for quite a few years. The ping is 45.75” I think. I’ve never hit a more forgiving driver. I hit my taylormade really well for a lot of years. This ping my bad shots are going just as far as my good ones with the taylormade and mis hits seem to go dead straight. I’m a little bummed I waited so long to try the new equipment.

Hey guys. Love the videos. I've been working through this myself. I currently have an adjustable driver and getting a new one isn't in the cards right now. Is that the right train of thought?

Great session, so important to understand what the hosel changes are actually doing to the ball flight. I tweaked my M4 the other day, one click stronger loft above the 10.5 stock setting. I was amazed how much difference the ball flight became, changed from a fade bias to neutral-draw, almost completely eliminated the leaky right shots. I could see increasing the loft also shut the face slightly but perhaps as importantly it was the added spin that stabilized the ball flight. Thanks for the informative testing.
@kourt24696 жыл бұрын
Chris I I doubt your straight shot wasn’t spinning as much as your fade was, but having the face slightly more closed compared to your normal delivery would perfectly explain how you went from fade to straight
@Mjwest236 жыл бұрын
To be fair, according to Taylormade's adjustment manual, at least for my M1 2017 driver, the same tweak you made to the hosel is listed as increasing spin by 300 from the 10.5 setting to 11.25 and 2° closed. I don't think that is always the case but it could have increased spin or been close/the same as his fade shot. I'd say it's a combo. Helps keep your face square/little closed to your swing path, launch a little higher/similar, spin similar.
@kourt24696 жыл бұрын
Mike West the increase spin would be if he squares the face after making the adjustment but if he swings it the same all things being equal the loft is still the same but the face angle is more closed.
@Mjwest236 жыл бұрын
@@kourt2469 Well if he came into the ball at impact square and perfect, the face would be 0° and his loft of the head would be 10.5. The hosel adjustment 100% changes the characteristics of how it lies, and in this case, it promotes a more closed, higher lofted swing than his prior set up which sounds like it is in fact doing this as it sounds like his swing is the same as before and he is hitting a straight/draw shot. Based on what these guys are saying in the video, launch helps create spin. This may help create similar spin to say a small fade he may have had because you are increasing spin with the launch going up and decreasing the spin because of the closed face, potentially equalling similar spin with the same swing. Again, only speculating based on the Taylormade manual and what Ian is saying.
@kourt24696 жыл бұрын
Mike West I’m not saying it didn’t create a change. But people don’t understand how these adjustable clubs work. You CANNOT change loft of wood. It’s impossible without removing the face and adding a new one with different loft. The adjustable sleeve is essentially changing the angle the shaft goes into the hosel. Which creates either an open/closed face or upright/flat lie angle. So when you adjust the club up a degree in loft all your doing is making the shaft enter the hosel slightly angled forward, if the club is then soled flat on the ground in the normal address position it would have closed the face 1-2 degrees, but again the loft is still the same. Now if you were to hover the club in the air in and rotate it to a square position instead of letting it sit closed, you have essentially tilted the shaft backwards which is presenting more loft to the ball, but the closed face is offsetting the tilt. But the club face still only has 10.5 degrees of loft your just have tilted the shaft back a degree so your presenting 11.5 degrees of loft now. The reason a loft adjustment works for irons is because the sole is so narrow that players instinctively square the face up to the target no matter if it’s bent closed or open, vs players typically let a wider bodied wood/driver lay on the ground before taking their grip. Hopefully that makes sense. So yeah the adjustment definitely works for loft (if the club is played in the square position after the adjustment is made) if the player isn’t aware of how they work they may very easily just let the club sit closed and some people may not even notice a 1-2 degree closed face, so now they won’t be adding loft just delivering a more closed face.

Hey guys, thanks for another interesting video. I'm a little confused since I am a drawer of the ball and previously used the G30 driver with great success and a pretty straight ball flight. Since I'm not playing a lot now, I went with the G400 Max at the beginning of the year and have found that I have started to consistently see a high left miss that is a lot less consistent than my G30. Should I be looking at a lower spinning driver?

Sad that people would think the original video promoted buying a game. I'm a low handicap who plays a 2° out to in shot off the tee with driver. I prefer a fade and I utilize fitting to give me the amount of fade I want, and not too much. If you handed me the wrong driver I could surely slice or hook it off the planet. My menchanics are good, and I play 1.5° in to out on all my other shots, but with driver, out to in yields the greatest distance and control over me hitting a draw (by 18-20 yards). So, I guess by being fit to achieve my prefered swing path maybe I am buying a game, oh well.

So I used to try to hold off the face and if I timed it just right then I would hit a playable shot. If I didn’t time it right then I’d block it right... the dreaded two- way miss. 🤬🤬🤬. I had little to no confidence with the driver. When I got back into golf this Spring after being away from the game for a few years it was time to retire the Titleist 909D3 in favor of some new tech. Because of your high praise for G400 Max I tested a 9 deg head paired with Ping Tour 65 S shaft and all I could say after a few swings was “WOW.” I’ve since switched out shafts for a Kuro Kage XT70 X and for my 105-108 mph quick-ish tempo swing it’s the closest thing I’ve ever had to an anti-left driver. Bad swings now typically stay in play and good swings are high soft draws that stay in the short grass. I’ve never had this much confidence with the big stick and it’s truly been a game changer for me. Anyone looking for a new driver owes it to themselves to give G400 Max a try!

Fully understand where you guys are coming from. The insight into a slice and now a hook is so helpful even for me who doesn’t suffer from these problems but the knowledge still helps me to improve. @Ian, love the Galvin Green Top, what’s the name of that one and could I get one with TXG branding by any chance ?

Ian...are you trying to steal Matt's thunder by putting puzzle pieces on your shirt?

Great vid! That's actually me. I need a new driver now. Could you please make a vid comparing light steel iron shafts (95g) vs. heavy weight (130g) steel shafts? Keep up the great work!

how matt is picturing a dog leg, can you change hole layout so it will show a dogleg on the screen?

Yes we can, we've got some upcoming videos where we start to use a real hole in the simulator for our testing

Lee Trevino said that you can talk to a fade but a hook never listens.

Be careful what you wish for.... I can’t slice it it any,ore and it takes an extreme swing for a little fade.
