My wife and I will be married 40 years in 2 weeks, We found out that it takes Laughter and fun to make a marriage to work. She is stunning and people tell me I'm one lucky guy, My wife and I laugh every day/night. Call me the "court jester', If she's feeling down I make her laugh, Don't take life so seriously, It's nice to grow old together.

I live my life by a moral compass I have inside, no religious books, no society rules, I'm also 49, have had no kids, have had no close friends since I was 19 and it's not soul destroying, it's liberating to be the king of your own land, no walls but no rules that make no sense....keep it up, your measure is by your own ruler, not inch by inch or metre by meter.

I do have have requirements in a relationship but not such shallow things as height, eye color, hair color, age, etc, my past has been people of five to over 6 feet tall, 5 years younger and my wife whi is ten years older, I prefer intelligent (because you can never hold down a long term relationship with someone not on your conversational level), and they have to be a moral person, not religious, not politically moral but a (deist) cKinf of moral person, common good over color, religion, age, etc.

There is nothing wrong with living alone, I'm married but haven't had friends of a close nature, you don't need them and it requires close proximity for long periods which some people don't get, not having friends doesn't mean you don't have friendly aquaintancies, I go to parties but prefer not to, mix with people but don't miss them when they are not there, I can go weeks without contact even when people are close by but I don't shy from conversation or discussions....just prefer my own company to being one of the hive.

i have been married twice...one the mother of my children who left us after 20 years and the other after several unfaithful encounters...now single and retired for 10 years and finally happy with my outcome in life, i have lots of friends both men and women and that's how i will finish my life...i live by these rules : Who is happy? One who is satisfied with what they have. " Look well of today, for it is the Life of Life...for yesterday is but a dream and tomorrow a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope..." Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those that hear them. Quitters Never Win and Winners Never Quit. The problem with doing nothing is not knowing when you're finished. Merry Christmas to you, your vids have great points to be taken within ourselves. thankyou

btw, I read something by Leonardo da Vinci that relates. In his notes, he said that he had discovered that whenever he was with other people, he felt diminished by half. So, he chose not to be in close relationships. He made it a conscious choice, and put his energies into his creative work instead.

Omg, so many nay sayers, lol. I am over sixty, and have loved my independent solo life! I built a tiny house on the back of a 61 Chevy pick up, while I was pregnant with my son in 1989 and lived in it with my 2 dogs, I cherish my memories of that, I love being alone, partnerless, friendless and I love my own company. I look back at all that I did alone as a child (like skipping school and riding up into the mountains alone on my horse in the snow )and wonder how I survived sometimes, my poor parents and their worry for me, the only part I regret. You have spoken for "our" community of "single roamers" of the world. You can have "physical" connections with others along the way, without giving up your spirit. Stay free and true to yourself, you don't "owe" your physical being to anyone but yourself. We are not selfish, but "selfless" and connected to something higher, spiritually, and only "grounded" physically to the earth and somewhere in the middle is the appreciation of nature, and the "living" consciousness we call planet earth. "Coupling" is manmade. I never feel alone, I hunger for nothing, all that I need, I'm provided with, at the moment I need it. Can you tell, I really LOVE this video! You sure have a speaking talent! Stay free, no matter where you are, or who you are with, at that particular, special moment! May you have many more fulfilling travels!

Word, girlfriend! Everything you said, here. F*ck labels; up with freedom! I have never wanted kids--and was told the same thing--just wait until I meet the right man. Umm, yeah, no. I love my own company--and the company of a select few. I recharge by being alone--a true introvert (but a friendly one)! Life is way too rich and varied to confine it to just a few prescribed ways of being. Yes, we need people--yes we need love--but the romantic imperative, what I like the call *The Cult of the Dyad* is not the kind of love that ultimately fills us (it's more often just a recipe for heartache). I have embraced the concept of love (it's always been there, it just took me a while to catch up) as that of a universal one. Love and friendship can be expansive, but instead, so many people use it to get smaller. They use relationships as a band-aid for a deep wound that no other person can heal. It never works. Anyway, kudos to you--stay the course, you're on the right track!

Carolyn you are a breath of fresh air. I've been divorced for 12 years and get asked all the time "don't you get lonely"? No! I was lonely in my marriage but now I'm quite content. I'm not a man hater either, I just don't need one to complete me. I have great friends (male and female) and 2 wonderful kids. I plan on retiring asap and hitting the road myself - solo!

The most important part of being a "healthy" individual, physically and mentally, is to be comfortable spending time alone. Not being dependent on another for approval is what everyone wants, whether they are conscious of it or not. You my dear are very healthy in all the ways that are necessary for living a fulfilled life. After 12 years of being married to the wrong person, where I changed every aspect of myself to become the perfect person for him, I struggled for a few years to find myself again, who I truly am and want out of my life. It's a wonderful feeling to just be me again. Having gone through these changes, I know and understand the strength that you have. I absolutely love your stories, adventures and little hiccups. Don't ever let any nay sayers dull your sparkle!!!

I have always been a free thinker, a free spirit, even during my years in the US Navy. I have enjoyed solitude, and company. We all have stories, moments of enlightenment, Carolyn is sharing her stories, I believe in her and like her. I enjoy her stories and learn something. Her vlogs influence and challenge me. Thought provoking. No, I won't buy an RV and chase her dream. I chase my own dreams. I am glad she is on planet earth, and I enjoy her.

Carolyn, thank you! I have not heard more powerful or truer words from another strong and independent woman, I dare say, in my entire life! Your sincerity, your healthy confidence in knowing exactly who you are and where you stand is such an immense inspiration. It is very clear that you are one completely liberated woman who just doesn't give a sh't! You are entirely untouchable by most, if not all, social pressures and expectations. While you might still be struggling with some aspects of completely letting go as more people project their disagreement/misunderstanding of your view point with negativity as a natural response to the threat that someone like you poses to the status quo, I assure you you are way ahead than most of us. I urge you to keep drawing strength from within and open us up to more of your unconventional thoughts and way of life as you are helping many of us to find the strength, in turn, in ourselves to live freely and ultimately happily. You are a leader towards crashing unconventionality especially for us women and resistence is only natural. Disclaimer: While there's nothing wrong with conventionality and those who choose to follow it, I vehemenely disagree that it should be shoved down the throat of everyone. The status quo doesn't work for everyone!

Hey Carolyn. Haters gonna hate. Just "do you" and delete their comments if they are being rude. There's no cosmic law that says the world is going to end if everyone doesn't rush out and pair up whether they want to or not. Hi Carolyn, we trust your holidays were great. We love your channel and we personally see a need for your unique content a views. Margaret and I have seen, "The fear of change" is the number 1 reason many people they don't consider RV life. No one wants to be viewed as crazy. Our friends and family thought we were Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs when we gave away 3 fourths of our possessions to minimalize our life. Some folks just say... It must be drugs. They keep asking "Why do you want to live like that" ? We know it's a choice and we're not going to allow fear (which really doesn't exist) shape our minds on something as important as life itself. We hope you will continue creating content which address personal fulfillment and social envolement in RV'ing. Thank You and ... Much Peace !!!

AMEN for this subject! Single gal here and having a hard time explaining to people why I am NOT actively looking for someone. Plus, I am in the process of putting my condo up for sale so I can start a nomadic life (probably a van life) but I don't talk to people about that because I am not ready for all the "why?" and the "😲". Keep up the good work!

Just read more comments. This video sure caused a lot of controversy, lol. She is a single lady, enjoying RVing, period, it's an adventure, a lifestyle, a personal choice for her own happiness, period. Another chapter in her personal book, and we are all included in a small part of her daily journey, by her sharing part of her privacy with us.Being so transparent and sharing so much of her life with us, is selfless, not selfish. She is NOT robbing some man out there in the universe of having a woman, lol. Just my small, insignificant opinion, lol.

You're not alone. I am with you along with a bunch of other folks living vicariously through you and Capone. Scratch his belly for us. My husband has been dead going on three years and I can't tell you how often I am told "You just need to find someone else and move on ". I fully agree I need to move past this. I just don't want a replacement relationship. I don't understand why the concept of being ok by myself has to be so shocking. I've even been asked if I'm going gay! Really? We need to start letting girls know it's ok to be what, who, and where she wants to be. Love, peace, and freedom in the new year.

Love yah! The norms of individuals and families have changed drastically in the last three decades. You are talking on a personal level about what sociologists, counsellors, teachers and those working with the general population are well aware of. Thank you for your openness and ability to communicate with humor the changing cultural norms. I look at myself and friends both married and single and how we all enjoy life, alone time and community much differently than how we were raised. Freedom is a good thing 😉😍😊 Keep one being you and know you are speaking for a large silent group of individuals that mirror your feelings. Awesome job!

I completely agree with you! After a life of being meek and abused, I found myself, my own life, and am working toward spending several months a year on the road and living Rocky Mountain High living by the song in my heart. I too have learned to really treasure my alone time, as well as time with other people and enjoying a healthy balance. My freedom and time alone is far to precious and vital to me to ever give up again. Thank you for being an inspiration! Carolyn, we live in a new uncharted society concerning the internet and we may not know all the do's and dont's of online community as this medium happened so fast and we all are still learning. However, I believe that just because a person opens the book to their life journey to us should not somehow signal permission to be psychoanalyzed publicly. I would not do this if I was sitting in front of you with a cup coffee alone without your permission so, why would it be acceptable as a counselor or friend to do it publicly? They didn't ask your permission to analyze you like a case study so just get in your RV and move on to the next destination! lol All healthy humans should be in the process of change and your journey reflects that change and I'm thankful for your candid reflection and admire your fortitude. Who you were yesterday is not who you are today or will be tomorrow. You're a seeker and unless you're a seeker you will never be a finder! Travel on my friend!

This may sound weird, but on Christmas day I was sitting with the family and thinking to myself, " I don't really want to be here, I'd rather be on the road on my own adventures and on this Christmas day possibly sitting around a camp fire with Carolyn and friends for the day just enjoying each others company, exchanging stories and simply enjoying the moment as friends." ( maybe we all share a bottle of wine and make a toast to freedom and good friends) lol. I'm very seriously thinking about escaping this coo-coo's nest (rat race) I've already started looking into class-c RV's. Thank you for sharing this video, please give Capone an extra dog treat for x-mas :-)

Yes, Carolyn, some people resonate with you. Those who don't... who cares? I wish you luck. Some introverts are able to hold onto relationships, and some don't do well. Often it's a matter of needing someone versus wanting someone. It's not good or bad, it's just the way we are. Keep enjoying rocks and bits of glass. And keep laughing!

I'm so glad I get to see you and how you live independently. I learned a term that I embrace, selfish is taking all the cake, a healthy sense of self interest is taking your piece of cake. (unless you made the cake for yourself then it's great to eat it all) Cake is a big part of my life! ;) Though I"m happily married to my best friend, I maintain my sense of independence by keeping my own set of friends on and offline. I made a mistake with my first husband, but when I knew better, I picked better. My clock never went off either. You do you! I am glad to watch.

That, my friend, was a very powerful video. So refreshing to hear/see someone who actually gets it....Society makes boxes and expects us to live in them. If we do not, we are judged, attacked, ridiculed. Does it bother us? Sure it does but it is acutally our ego's that it bothers....our Spirit could actually give a shit. So once we get our ego's in check, then we have finally have freedom. Because then we live with no ego and just a carefree Spirit that lives for us and no one, or nothing else. BTW.....Capone kept photo bombing you! LOL Enjoy your friend......and enjoy YOU!

OMG! Every teenage girl needs to hear this video! I too was made to feel like I was less than perfect all through my 20's and early 30's because I chose a career over marriage. So, I married and had kids. I ended up in what started as an emotionally abusive marriage. I was forced to give up my career, my family and friendships. As this relationship progressed, I became more trapped and abused. Finally as with all narcissistic relationships, my husband left me stealing everything. I now have my freedom and it's a beautiful thing! I am finally me again. I hope others will hear you and realize you don't have to be attached at the hip to someone to be whole.

Thank you... You have made such a difference in my life already. Yesterday, I spent Xmas with my daughter, her husband (jackass!), and his family. I was miserable the entire time. I felt so out of place and separate from them. The entire time, I wished I was alone. But I went because that is what is expected. You MUST spend Xmas with your family. But do I?? Must I?? If it makes me so miserable, then why am I doing it? So, thank you... For helping me to understand and learn a little bit more about myself. And except myself a little bit more. And perhaps helping me to take a few more steps back from the edge. Merry Xmas.

What a great video, Carolyn! I can totally relate to everything you are saying. It took me longer than you to wake up, though. I kept going into relationships with an open heart, only to attract "takers" who expected me to do all the giving (of course they pretended to be otherwise for the first weeks, and then changed). But "loyal" me -- I would just hang in there, trying to make things right again. Finally, I realized that every "relationship" was just a 'trap of misery,' and I haven't dated since. Much happier now.

Funny, I tend to think that something is wrong with me. I choose to live alone. And I ask myself why don't I want someone here full time? (like they could mow the lawn and stuff, right?) I'd rather pay someone! Recently, I ended a three year long distance relationship that I thought was working well, because I only see him every few months, but I know he wants more and would try to hold me back from my plans although he won't admit that. Before this relationship I was married for 31 years. And, I knew at least twenty of those years I didn't want to be there! That's kind of a waste of life! I don't know what the future will bring, but I know I do not have any plans to repeat the past and have someone I feel accountable for or to ever again. I like what you said... about not having to label or define it. You enjoy spending time with someone, then you do and it can be that simple. If you don't or you find you need time away.. then you go. No strings and hopefully no hurt feelings. thank you for your blog/vlog and look forward to hearing about your adventures. Kathy Jo... (1 year 8 months five days until my great escape)

I'm with you Carolyn. I've come to the same conclusions as you after 3 marriages. And it's not because I'm the least bit bitter - I'm still friends with my last ex. It's because I love to be by myself. Every once in a while, I experience a moment of complete euphoria, and it's wonderful when it happens, and no, it's not drugs :), but I've never experienced it with a person by my side. I love not having to talk about my money, or what I plan on doing next, or try to justify to someone how I spent my day. I can have a dog now! I could go on and on....

I think its all about culture. The culture we are raised within. Our culture dictates that its 'normal' to be in a relationship. Fortunately I have woken up and freed myself from the bonds of cultural relationship expectations. I have relationships but am not 'in' a relationship. Some people love to be surrounded by many people daily and then opt for some solitude occasionally, by having a quiet vacation etc. I feel the opposite, I crave solitude daily and occasionally wish for some human interaction. Some people ask if I get lonely and my reply is, 'you don't have to be alone to be lonely'. There are many people in relationships who are very lonely. We all have a choice about who we have a relationship with. It should be based on our desires or needs and not societies expectations. Its utterly bizarre that sometimes society will even give people therapy, to identify why they want to be on their own, then try and 'fix them', so that they can enter a relationship like 'normal' people (whoever they are) lol.
