Wow sehr schön gesungen. Wirklich eine tolle Leistung ohne Probleme diesen Übergang zu singen. Ich habe Englisch und Deutsch erkannt, war französisch auch dabei? Konnte es nicht ganz erkennen ob italienisch oder französisch 🙈 am anfang dachte ich französisch und dan Italienisch.

So, first of all: your four questions: 1. How many languages do I hear? 7 I think. Unless I'm mistaking and 6 is Spanish again, but I don't think so. 2. Which ones? 0 English (this goes without saying. The fact that I write in English should explain enough.) 1 German (I'm German... that was German, very nice pronunciation, btw!) 2 French (Gah... that wasn't a language! That was a throat disease, called French!) 3 Spanish (Had to listen a few times to be sure, as the piano is kind of muting your voice a bit, but then I heard "io quiero") 4 Some Slavic language. I would guess Polish, because of the abundancy of "sh" sounds. 5 Dutch (I'm fluent in Dutch, but that was kind of hard to discern because of the pronunciation. Still a VERY good attempt!) 6 Italian? Hard to hear if it's Italian or Spanish when people are singing. My Spanish just isn't good enough. At the beginnning I though Rumanian, because it's obviously a Romance language, and I thought I hear a short Slavic-like sound, but then again, I think it's not enough Slavic sounding. 7 French again. 8 German again. 9 English once more. 10 Spanish again. The io quiero gave it away. 11 And French yet one more time. 3. In what order? Well... look at the above list. :) 4. How many switches? So you started with English which isn't a change, of course, as you start with it. Hence I gave English a 0 in the list, and not a 1. Therefore you switched 11 times. If you'd erroneously would count English as well, it would be 12, but that would not be correct. Thaaaaaaaaaaat being said: I love by far most of your pronunciations, as far as I can tell: English is obviously outstanding, but your German is remarkable too. Your French is quite okay for a native English speaker! Your Spanish sounds quite good to me, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to really tell. The Slavic language: can't say. I have no clue about how that pronunciation would have to sound. The only thing that wasn't that good - sorry to say - is Dutch. But then again, Dutch pronunciation is very straight forward but quite hard to get right. We got quite some very difficult sounds, both vowels and consonants. Tough job if you're not a native, even if you live here for years. Therefore: your effort was quite remarkable! And your singing and piano play? Marvellous! Not my music genre at all, but that's not something I can, want or will criticise. That's a matter of taste and preference. But I really like your voice. Very nice! :)

@@englishwithdaniella Not completely correct? Well, I'd have been amazed if I got it all right =D How to improve your Dutch? THAT is a tough one. There's two main versions of Dutch, actually, being the Dutch as spoken in the Netherlands, and the one we speak here in Belgium. The differences in pronunciation and vocabulary are about similar to the differences between the standard British English and the American version. The biggest problem is that many sounds in Dutch are quite difficult as they are rather unique. Especially our "g" or "ch" sound, the way we use those in Belgium. I know no other language with the same sound. Also, I am no professional linguist, so I cannot give you professional guidance how to pronounce things. I'd have to do that in person, I guess. I can do both versions of Dutch, btw, but I prefer our own, Belgian Dutch, as it is, as they say in the Netherlands, softer and smoother.

​@@englishwithdaniella I've listened to your Dutch text again. It's hard to understand, but that's mainly an audio issue. The piano is hard to overcome with your voice, obviously. So I took the original text, to give the corrections a try. Mind you: this is VERY hard to do. Hard to get the pronunciation right, and hard to explain! :D 1. The ending of the word "dAAR". This sounds a bit like the Dutch as spoken in the Netherlands, but not exactly. You pronounce it a bit like the English word "dOOR". It should be more like "tAR" though, but not exactly either. In Belgian Dutch, this would be a bit different. It would be with an "a" sound that comes close to the Oxford English "a" as in "can't" or "dance". In Belgian Dutch, the "R" is always pronounced quite like the French "R". 2. wil ik... nothing to add there. That's just great! :) 3. heen. This is obviously the Dutch version as spoken in the Netherlands. This is actually considered to be an incorrect pronunciation, because of the fact that in the Netherlands they usually turn O and E sounds into false diphthongs. In standard Dutch - the correct language according to the language union - this should not be a diphthong. It should just be an "ee" sound, without the slight "y" sound at the end. But as I said, in the version of Dutch as spoken in the Netherlands, this is very common, and they often don't even hear that. 4. als dat toch kon, heerlijk genieten warm in de... this is quite good. Some impurities might be because singing always minimally distorts pronunciation anyway, because of the different cadence and intonation. 5. Zon. You seem to say "son", so with an "s" sound. This should be a "z" as in "zebra". 6. dat is... this is rather good again. Nothing to worry about. 7. mijn... this doesn't really sound like Dutch. It sounds like the English "main", but that's not how the Dutch "ij" or "ei" is pronounced. Unfortunately, I don't even know how to begin to explain this. I cannot imagine any even similar sounds in English. But... we'll get back to this later in the song! :) A little side note: I already explained that in the Netherlands, they tend to use false diphthongs where monothongs should be used instead. In Belgium we do the opposite. We omit some diphthongs, unfortunately. In this case there is a slight "y" sound at the end. We don't do that, but we should! 8. wens... This is tough. the "w" might be pronounced softer oh so slightly. You can just use the English "w", actually. The English "whence" comes quite close, though the "w" gets a tiny bit of an "oo" sound in the beginning. Just a very small pinch, and that should never be used in Dutch, or the "w" sounds French, oddly enough. And the "e" should be even clearer than the "e" in "whence", which has a hint of a schwa. But THAT you just nailed perfectly! It's really just the "w" in your case. My compliments! :) 9. net als een mens... perfect. No issues there! :) 10. bij... listened to this a plethora of times, but I cannot hear if it's right or wrong. Sorry. :( 11. hem/hen. That is interesting. "N" and "m" sound virtually exactly the same. It's really hard to hear a difference. But I watched your video a couple of times to analyse this, and... I think you didn't close your lips! Now... to be honest: I'd never have noticed this. Both "hem" and "hen" create a perfect sentence here. It's only because I was reading the lyrics while analysing and watching your video, that I saw this. In the text it says "hem" though. Translated: the text says: "to be with him", but you seem to say "to be with them". Now I wonder if that's intentionally! Might just as well be! :) Anyway: this is not a pronunciation mistake if it's unintended, but rather a tiny slip of the tongue. 12. Remember 7? And how I said, I'd get back to this later? Well, here we are. :) Here you got the "ij/ei" sound completely correct! My respect! :) So, as I already said before, Dutch is tremendously hard to pronounce. Even people who live here for decades are seldomly accentless. So don't be hard on yourself. You did quite an okay job, but I must say that your German and French are flawless, while your Dutch is not quite there yet. All together I found 4.5 mistakes. That's not bad, but as I think you want to get things perfectly, these are the things that will identify you as a non-native speaker. Why 4.5 and neither 4 or 5? Because of the "ee" sound. People from the Netherlands will not recognise this as an error, even though the "Taalunie" (the official Language Union, a governing body of the three Dutch speaking regions, that defines the proper language rules) deems it to be wrong. That's why I declare it to be just half wrong. Probably you even took the Dutch from the Netherlands as a guide, so... ;) A little side note: In the Dutch region, we do not dub movies. Never. We only dub children's movies, so there's a Dutch version and a subtitled original one. In the last decades, there were more and more complaints of Belgian Dutch speakers, that cartoons were always dubbed in the Dutch of the Netherlands. This created two odd effects. One is that many cartoons are dubbed by Belgians and people from the Netherlands, which is as if Americans and Brits are talking to each other. The other effect is that Disney now makes a version for the Netherlands and a version for the Dutch speaking part of Belgium I think The Little Mermaid was before that. I cannot find any evidence that there is a Belgian Dutch (yes, I refuse to call it "Flemish") version of the movie. The version that one can find here on YT says "BE", but it's not. It's definitely Dutch from the Netherlands. Perhaps that's the reason for #3. :)

@@kenninast Thanks so much for taking the time to give me such detailed feedback! I will certainly try my best to implement those changes to improve my overall pronunciation. As you rightly suspected, I was indeed going for Dutch pronunciation from the Netherlands as opposed to Belgium. And I thought the lyric was "bij hen te zijn" ("to be with them", i.e. the people on the land whom she is singing about), which is why you didn't see my lips close, but it's interesting to know that she sings to be with *him* and not *them* - I simply misheard that. But you're right - both versions would make sense, anyway. :) Regarding the dubbing: that is fascinating! That's the secret to learning such good English, then - not dubbing anything! ;) And actually the Dutch "g" / "ch" sound does exist in other languages, German being one of them. In the IPA, it's written as /x/, and it can be heard in German words such as "Buch" and "Loch". :) Have a great weekend! 😁 Daniella

I am a native speaker of both Dutch AND German. I know the IPA writes all of those sounds as /x/, but they are different. The Belgian Dutch "g" is very soft. The Belgian Dutch "ch" is a tiny bit less soft" The Netherlands' Dutch "ch" is even less soft. The German "ch" is not soft at all. If you want, we might be able to do some chat about the differences of pronunciation between Belgian Dutch, Netherlands' Dutch and German. You are even allowed to record it and turn it into a video if you want to. I wouldn't mind either way. ;)
