Wow!! Thank you! So many great ideas! Some weeks ago, I reached out to one of my favorite pattern design and asked if she was interested in having her patterns translated into Portuguese (I am a professional translator), and she accepted. So, I exchanged my services for her patterns! I was happy and she was happy!

When I worked at a law firm, we used to have a craft class on our lunch hour. One of the girls had an Etsy shop and suggested I should open one. I did and it was a little hectic when I worked, but when I retired it got very busy except for the summer months. I barter what I make with professional photographers to get professional photos. That really makes a difference.

Textiles are the biggest cottage industry in the world. In the past, guilds worked well for producing saleable textiles, teaching many techniques, and for innovation. Guilds are great for arranging sales in the local community. It's also nice to have friends to knit and crochet with. Knitting, crochet, and weaving have been an economic powerhouse historically. In other countries, it's still very important.

I had a business years ago with a dear friend, and we made crochet Victorian gowns, petticoats, and knickers for Barbie dolls. I remember when I sold my very first for $100k, I was so excited, but unfortunately she moved away and passed away recently. I'm now 71, and I still think about selling toys, especially these Amigurumi. I just started, but I'm enjoying them, and Elise I followed you making the catster. I just finished my first, but of course I am just practicing, but it gives me ideas.

I'm in the process of purchasing a property that has a lot of fruit and vegetables on it. The realtor suggested that I could take the extras to the farmer's market. My daughter also wants a beehive which would be great for the garden. I'm thinking it would be neat to have a few crochet items for sale on the table as well. I'm not really looking to make a lot of money, honestly it would probably be more so that the food growing on the property doesn't go to waste, but it would be nice to get some back from our efforts in the garden.

@@EliseRoseCrochet I'm thinking of maybe making little crochet fruits, vegetables, foods, and garden bugs would go well alongside real fruits and vegetables. I'm very new at crochet. I tried earlier this year and got really confused because I was watching right hand videos while trying to crochet left-handed. I gave up on trying to do it left-handed for now and decided to just figure it out right-handed. Maybe I can switch it up once I get more comfortable, but I don't think I'm doing too bad. I made a couple of the cats from the Dumpling Cats book, and I'm almost finished with an Ogre. I think I like the lace weight yarn a little better than worsted though, but it might be my hook that is the real issue. The 4.5mm I decided to use is one of those plastic light up ones, but it is squeaky and harder to pull through. On top of that, I don't even like the built in light because I feel like it blinds me more than helps me see. I realized the squeaky when watching your video review on hooks and now I'm too far along with this ogre to start over/ swap hooks.

Thanks for this information. For a while I wrote craft articles which was enjoyable and gave me an income. The online company that I wrote for was sold and many of us lost this income. So, two things here, you may be able to share your knowledge by writing articles and you must pay strict attention to what is going on. That nice income can disappear, so be ready for a new path. Do not trust your income on one thing.

Thanks for sharing all these recommendations. What you are doing is quite lovely and inspiring. I do beautiful crochet but I have no help and no one can succeed alone. Technology for me is daunting. I've wasted a lot of money making an effort to move forward and then giving up. I can participate in almost all the other aspects of a business except those that are technological. I often wish I had a person or more to team up with so they could do those tasks but I haven't been successful. It makes me sad to think of it because I could have been doing better.

I totally get it. I'm not a "tech" person, but I've had to learn how to do it. It's a skill just like learning how to crochet. Working through learning new technological skills will be so worth it in the long run! Good luck! ❤️

Hello! I’ve been enjoying your tutorials. Do you have a tutorial or know of one they you would you recommend for embroidering eyes on an amigurumi doll?

You just read my mind! I'm getting ready to do a video on that very soon! 👀👀👀

@@EliseRoseCrochet yay!!!! I have been looking through all your past videos in case I missed it. I’m embroidering the eyes because I’m crocheting the doll for a baby. The shower is next week. Are there any videos you’d recommend until you’ve released your tutorial?

I definitely won't have mine done before then. I don't have any recommendations, unfortunately! I'm sure there are some good ones on KZbin! ❤️

@@EliseRoseCrochet that’s okay! I’m still looking forward to when your release your tutorial. This will definitely not be my last amigurumi project needing eyes. Thank you for all you do! I’m learning so much! 😊🧶

So you sell under le petit saint crochet on Etsy? I would love to visit your shop there 🙂
@EliseRoseCrochet2 жыл бұрын
Yes! I currently am only selling patterns and printables there. Someday soon I will need to sell some finished toys as my hoard is getting a little large! But I also sell on my own blog. ❤️❤️❤️
@loescremers56852 жыл бұрын
So you hoard till it doesn’t fit and then sell? That was one off the things I was considering since they take time to make. So if they do go fast how do I keep up without running out of stock and people have to wait for their product?
@EliseRoseCrochet2 жыл бұрын
I've tried selling finished toys and then selling made-to-order and I liked selling finished toys much better. It was less stressful for me and I could ship them right away. But I will say, people really liked having the option of made-to-order toys and were willing to wait weeks for me to make them, but it was too stressful for me. Good luck selling your toys!! ❤

Best advice for people who have dreams and hopes to earn on what they love is to quit dreaming and get real job. 99% of people won't succeed and longer they will keep trying, worse trouble they're going to drag themselves in. Talent and skill means next to nothing if you're not lucky.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I know several people who are making a full time income from crocheting, but it took time to get to that point. 🧶🧶🧶

@LePetitSaintCrochet Well, I know several people who are making full time income from their handmade art (nobody who relies solely on crocheting but crocheting mixed with knitting or weaving/macrame) and it's not their patience and persistence what got them there (they had it of course, next to impossible to get anywhere without that) but one or several lucky breaks. Many, many others were as patient, dedicated, persisted, skilled and talented - got them nowhere, cause no lucky breaks, just harsh reality hit them way too many times.

Thank you for the video! Question, do you have to go through some sort of licensing or registration to sell amigurumi. I know there are certain rules about selling kids toys, but are they considered kids toys?
@EliseRoseCrochet2 жыл бұрын
Here in the United States I'm not aware of any regulations for selling toys on a small scale, like for a handmade business. I also don't consider the things I crochet toys, more like nursery decor. Hope that helps! ❤
@CrochetCrochetJoyJoy2 жыл бұрын
The only situation in the US where one may need licensing is if you are making copyrighted characters such as Mickey Mouse. In a case like that, Disney is highly protective of their intellectual property and they may be inclined to take legal actions against someone who makes Mickey Mouse merch to sell. Something to keep in mind.
@lisaolsen1172 жыл бұрын
Well, it’s so confusing because from what I understand, there are regulations when selling amigurumi…such as testing (with plastic pieces such as eyes).

I had very small income from pattern selling and teaching. But I have too many crochet dolls at home, I spent too much time on them and I dont want to sell at too low, but it occupied a lot of my space, how could I sell the dolls much quicker?
@EliseRoseCrochet2 жыл бұрын
Figure out a price that would make you happy and see if they will sell for that. Try on Etsy or even at a local handmade market. If they don't sell at that price, drop it until you can sell them. If all else fails look for places to donate them that makes you feel good about it. Hope that helps!! ❤️❤️❤️
