Can you paint an IMPERIAL KNIGHT in a day? | Warhammer 40k

I like the idea of smaller-scale challenges, but with more limitations or uh...challenges. So instead of a big hero, or a whole combi box, you get a unit or vehicle and have to paint that, but you assign limitations or requirements to eachother- "you MUST use green and orange" "No grime etc washes" "must drybrush metals" or stuff like that. Alternatively, you coud start something for eachother, then swap to finish- such as "Painting each others kitbashes" (obvious), or "rescuing a crazy paint scheme" (where you each pick 1 main colour and base/prime the mini(s) in that, then swap and go "go on, make this look good!"). I love the challenges, it's something that you two do better than almost anyone else (in my opinion, anyway!) Keep it up my dudes.

The limitations is something we’ve had a look at before, it just depends on the mini/project because if it’s a mini for one our armies (like the knight was) it’s hard to limit it. However would love to do a challenge where big Kieran can’t use the same 3 paints he always uses 😂

I'm so glad Poorhammer introduced me to you guys, your whole last month is in my Watch Later and you two seem like so much fun. As someone with two knights sitting already built (a mistake I will not make with my next one(s)) and completely unpainted, learning that they can be painted well in a (relatively) short amount of time is really nice to learn! A challenge idea for y’all. Truly original name that has no relation to any other channel. The Poorhammer challenge(would actually be budgethammer prolly). Each player spins to see how much money they get for the challenge. They then can only use resources up to that much( ie using the airbrush have to subtract what the cost of the airbrush would be) if the paint came in a box set you have to use the box set price but you could use all the paints in it.

I just finished painting my Chaos Knight in around 8 hours. It was very simple and was essentially just basing in gold and silver then covering it all in rust/grime. I could never be that perfect on a imperial knight with the half scheme and I think yours looks amazing.

I really like that green/white on the panels, the line on the shield is exceptional! I think its the transfers and the darker shade because of the wash like you mentioned on the feet, other than that I think its really nice! Some little details that I think will make it pop a little more, get the transfers on there and I think you've got a great Knight there! That Keeper of Secrets is wonderful and if I could paint one like that I might collect Slaanesh daemons Not helpful I know but I love all your challenge videos. Would love to see two different takes on the same model or the same army box!

Both are great, I am really curious to see that knight finished with transfers and perhaps a little bit of weathering? Kieran regarding your Keeper of Secret I love what you did with the skin and clothing, however there's an amazing opportunity to add a bit of color with all the gems you kept gold. Either a dark amethyst to complement the main color, or something different like jade or ruby.

I love all of the challenges...I also struggle with painting things I care about (so all of my armies lol). Sometimes we need to learn to let go of perfectionism, or so much will remain grey. Both models look awesome guys, well done!

Old vid I know, I love your painting videos they are why I kept watching and joined the patreon. I think herohammer lacked the same challenge that the combat patrols did in that they were far more doable. However they were fantastic to watch because the quality of the painting and the end result was 10/10. I wonder if there's mileage in challenges that involve multiple aspects. Or a combat patrol + centrepiece challenge where one of you paints the combat patrol and one of you paints a centrepiece character/monster for the army and then if one finishes early they help the other etc. Idk, I definitely want more painting videos though!

This was a great episode! I'll say this, Jason has definitely given me a newfound respect for the Keeper of Secrets. I still dont like the face but the alternate skin color from that pale white/grey on the box *definitely* showed me the potential of this model. Also, the "smaller Keepers" that Kieran referred to would be Dexcessa, the Talon of Slaanesh, and Synessa, the Voice of Slaanesh. They are from Age of Sigmar. If you want me to sell you on their lore, they are basically avatars of Slaanesh's *direct* will in the Mortal Realms after Morathi became a god at the end of 2nd edition. And both twins love squabbling with one-another over which is the "true" avatar of Slaanesh. Finally, the Knight was good, but the colors were just a bit too bright and saturated. Especially the White. That, to me, *NEEDED* some kind of transition or gradient or something, ANYTHING else to not make it just look like pure, flat white. As for future challenges, rather than see you set a goal to paint X amount of models in timeframe Y, I'd like to see it be essentially a Score-Atrack. You paint as much as you can for an army and scale the points a unit earns proportionally to their difficulty. I'd like to see you swap between 40K and AoS regularly if you do choose this route. I can't wait for that new AoS challenge!

The knight scheme is very cool, I think the main issue is that you put all that effort into shading/ weathering the exo skeleton but the panels are clean white and green. I have no idea how to weather the panels without it attracting to much attention, but maybe some pages from the more realistic effects that AK sells. Mud splatters or dried mud in general might be cool

When airbrushing with Ak Interactive Paints you need to put in a couple of drops of flow improver. With that they behave like every other airbrush paint.

They're both awesome, knight in 12hrs is ludicrous, so kudos for it! If it was me, the knight would have gold trim, and the canopy would have a white stripe to break up the profile, balance the green whit mix. But thats just me 😅. Keep up the good work!

I think the Knight is looking lush, really giving me "Green Knight" from Arthurian Legend. I would lean into that more and incorporate illuminated manuscript designs from things like the book of Kells. Would look really good with nature designs incorporated like climbing ivy and give it a "green man" vibe. Congrats to Big K as well for a lovely Keeper 🔥

I think the issue with the knight is that the trim colour is to close to the metallic skeleton, so it all merges together a bit, if it was darker there would be a bit more separation between elements. Looks absolutely fantastic for being done in 12 hours!

For your gunmetal grey and silver at the start how did you apply them?

Through an airbrush, just to make it faster. Those paints flow so well you could easily do it with a brush :D

A Knight in a day is EASY to do. Did my first one in 9 hours, and it turned out fire. It just gets easier from there. edit: I'd love to see squad box challenges, like a box of Necron Immortals or SM Hellblasters, things like that. Something in between Hero's and Combat Patrols. A squad is big enough to showcase the skills, and yet not silly hard like a Combat Patrol.

@@the_kieran_show Admitedly, the primary paint color used was Turbo Dork Galaxia which makes getting the colors on super easy since it's just a couple layers of brushwork/airbrush. So the way I did it was prime black, drybrush Army Painter Gunmetal on the body. Hit the Stacks, cords, all mechanicus skulls with Valejo Model Air copper. Edge the armor panels with Valejo Gold. Apply the Turbo Dork first layer with Airbrush/paintbrush, then while that was drying go over the entire metalic parts with a black wash. Paint the second layer of Turbo Dork, and all that was left was touching up. Honestly Knights are the easiest points to paint imo. And yours turned out really good. The only advice I have (which sounds odd because I've used your videos for over a year to learn from) is that the metal might need griming up a bit, and the trim on the armor panels either need brightening or maybe just a different color then the body. Or maybe just a heavy black wash and edge highlighting them again. At least that's what I'd do.
