Mine came last week! I am slowly clearing out my freezer. I did two loads of shredded cheese! I was given so much fresh mozzarella so I shredded it and freeze dried it. I then found quite a few bags of cheddar in my freezer and threw them in with some shredded Velveeta. I powdered the Velveeta! I am doing some candy runs for the kids right now, but I'll continue with clearing out the freezer tomorrow.😁 I'm absolutely LOVING it and the fact that I can see what is in my freezer now. Haha!

We use a moisture meter to check the moisture content of our food prior to storing our freeze dried food. Surprisingly, after checking the moisture, we have placed numerous trays of food back into the freeze dryer and continued the drying process until they are completely dried. We no longer use our dehydrator, but still have it just in case. For long term storage we use mylar bags, but occasionally use vacuum sealed mason jars for shorter term storage. In my personal opinion, the freeze dryer was our best food storage purchase. We held off purchasing a freeze dryer until I watched your electric use video.

Wonderful! My favorite items I've freeze-dried and use daily are mirepoix (onions, celery, & carrots) and diced peppers. No need to rehydrate, just throw them into whatever you are cooking. Garlic and onion powder have also been terrific. Thank you for the great videos.

Thanks to you guys, my sister and several other YT FDers, I bought a Large about 3 months ago and have had is running non-stop. Bought 10 extra trays, {15 total}, and have had every tray prepped with food and pre-freezing continuously. Have been vac sealing most my food in 1/2 Gallon jars, and some in Mylar, but so far I have 164 jars full, with dozens more quarts and pints. Its so nice to kick back and feel at ease knowing I have years and years of food stored for whatever becomes of these crazy times we live in...{in just 3 months, and not slowing down yet} Every 2 weeks I go shop for sales and am trying new stuff to FD and store for later. Lately I've been making meals like Chili, Hamburger Stew, Biscuits and Gravy, Pasta and Meatballs and storing those in Mylar for the long long term. Thanks again.

Mine is coming in January. I bought one during the recent sale, so with the money saved from the cost, I purchased additional tools. Preserving food is my biggest reason. Decreasing the risk of losing food from freezer failure is the second. Having longer storage for food is the next. It will also make for easy meals if someone in the home is sick, injured, or even as we get older and may not able to do as much or afford to buy. We can buy $5 beef now, when in 5 years it may cost $10 for the same beef. It also makes it much more portable and use less storage space. I am very excited and blessed to have been able to purchase one. I hope it lasts my family a very long time.

The cool part is that apart from the lard and biscuits, I think practically everything else can be freeze dried and you could make a semi-MRE package of Pot Pie. The savings you make was about $48 for the whole batch. If you would have grown it yourself, it would have been $50. At 30 cycles before an oil change, that would be approximately $1,500 of savings or approximately half the cost of the machine. So it will take 2-3 oil changes to break even. Then it is just savings from there. Thanks for the info. I am drawn to the freeze-dryer for taste, nutritional retention, longevity of the food, storage space savings, freeing up freezer space while savings on the electricity to run the freezer. That is a lot of wins. I am saving for purchasing one and creating a space to have it. You make me more excited than ever for the day it arrives.

Not sure if you know but you can use your freeze dryer to vacuum seal canning jars. I have done that for years it reduces the O2 content to the point that oxygen absorbers are not required. Canning jars make it easy to find what you want on the shelf and are reusable. Another hack is to use a Pump and Seal to reseal jars that you are actively using.

Best description of the pros and cons of a freeze dryer versus the dehydrator that I have heard on any channel. There's still no way that I could afford one, but it might be a long-term goal because I am always having leftover vegetables because I'm only one person and I can only eat so much. I need a deep freezer more, but unless you have a garage or basement, that's impossible. So both are out of reach for me right now. For people who still want a dehydrator along with a freeze dryer, I would recommend getting a Sun Oven.
