Can you ski HUNTER MOUNTAIN from THE VERY TOP?

Can this be called "Back country in the Catskills"? Bunch of friends, a self-labeled "fluffle", meets up for their first day of skiing at Hunter resort. To tire myself on sufficient level, I decided to skin up the mountain. But going up just the resort wouldn't feel like enough, so I aim for the top of the actual Hunter Mountain. I couldn't find any information on whether I can ski down from there. But hopefully where there is will... shot with #insta360 in the #catskills

The hiking trail seems to be heavily used bu snow-shoers, I only met one person on the way up and down. But the trail was broken in, which was nice. I suggest picking a day with softer snow than what I had. : )

Thank you for sharing this. I've always wondered why there's no sign of the legendary fire-tower from the so-called "summit" of the ski area. Way to earn those turns. Do you regret not taking the chairlift for the first third?

Re the regret -- actually I planned it this way. When I got in the parking, the sky was still black and full of stars, and when i started the climb, the sun just peaked over the horizon, and except a few snowcats, i was the only one on the mountain. That was really nice and worth it. If you take the chair, it opens at 9am, I think, so that is definitely an option as well.
