The Montevideo Conference sets out the requirements for statehood (ish). It requires a defined territory, a stable populous, effective and exclusive control by the government (i.e. no belligerent groups flouting your authority within your borders that you're powerless to stop), and "capacity to enter into relations with other states", which is basically a fudge factor, and what prevents ISIS (which, despite being deeply villainous, at its height had land, and subjects over which it exercised absolute control) from being a legal state, and how Palestine was fudged into being a state (in the eyes of many, despite having little control as against Israel over some of its land and citizens, the size of which fluctuate). International recognition is not listed anywhere as a condition per se, and lawyers are in disagreement as to whether it's necessary to create a state, or simply recognises something that already is a state. The Principality of Sealand, mentioned in the opening, is an abandoned WW2 anti aircraft platform in the English Channel, which claims to be a sovereign state, led by Prince Michael (who lives in England), with 1 postal address (redirected to a UK PO box), and a handful of 'citizens'. It's in UK territory, and is recognised by no serious bodies. I am not one of those people who would start a country for power. I would start a country, because, in this country, there would be peace,no air pollution,no alcoholic beverages,no smoking products, it would be clean, we would preserve as much nature as possible and start many sanctuaries for endangered species, and try to make products that are as much Earth friendly as we can get, and if there is crime(in such a society you have no reason to be involved in crime), our 'prisons' will actually be rehabilitation centers. This and much more. This country would most likely turn out as what one could call a 'Perfect society'. It is mostly an example for the world to look at.
