I'm very impressed with the suspension damping. Not too much bump or rebound with plenty of suspension travel. I updated my old MK6 with "soft" VW DG springs and "soft" Bilstein Touring dampers and it was WAY too stiff over cracks, bumps, manhole covers... everything. My MK7 GTI with the oem suspension feels like a Bentley in comparison and I'm not touching it this time. It has a touch too much dive and roll but it's worth a comfortable ride. The MK6 DID handle amazing though. It's all about compromises.

I'll tell you what I told Zach, Bilstein PSS10s are not a track coilover! I run them in the mid range on the street, this was 9F/7R which is just a notch below what I do on a track day. It performs super well on the street, canyons and occasional track use but it's no where near dedicated. Well worth the money.

I'd buy a used Golf R over the new one. I remember Zack driving one with 328 HP a while back that's more then enough for a daily driver. The interior is much more simplified then the new Golf to and in my opinion much better looking.

The new R has a better drivetrain and better AWD, but the media is horrendous. Personally I own a 2017 R with max options. But sadly it seems like the Mk 7.5 is the one to own. Everyone seems to love that screen. So if you buy used, probably buy 7.5 if you can. Though I still love my Mk 7 with analog dials - I think that'll age better.

@@lostinbravado I went to test drive the new golf r and I personally did enjoy it but like everyone else mentions, the interior was a bit too much. VW needs to just keep things simple like the 7.5 R and focus more on the driving feel than the interior.

@@lostinbravado I too have a '17 R fully optioned with the 6spd manual. I prefer the mk7 over the 7.5. The 7.5 looks like a Hyundai in the headlights, it has perforated leather which is much more prone to tearing in my experience, and the digital dash will age poorly. I do envy the radar for the cruise control being in the badge though, mine got tweaked like a month into ownership and I didn't bother getting it recalibrate (because it costs $400 to do) for three years then when I did it got tweaked again for no apparent reason after 3 weeks, haven't bothered fixing it since. Even hangs the tail out on turn in if you want it to. Been rock solid for 50k miles. only reason I'm considering getting rid of it is to go to a 2 car (DD+dedicated sports car) garage. As a single car solution, it's hard to beat without spending double.

The 7th gen Golf is a testament to the exceptional engineering that went into developing its top tier spec. It can do everything and give more when asked. If a manual your first step should be to delete the clutch delay valve and assist spring then if you plan on tuning upgrade the clutch, it won't hold even stage 1 power. Also I would do the shifter and shift bracket, I money shifted mine twice (luckily I was quick enough on the clutch to not do any damage) because the stock shifter was so vague, haven't missed a shift in the 50k miles since I upgraded to a diesel geek with an ie bracket and bushings. Rear sway bar is worth it. As for power do a turbo inlet elbow (cheap, like $65 and good for about 15 hp with a tune), a fluidampr crank pulley (multiple dynos showing 10-12 hp and 15-17 ft/lbs at stage 2 and good reliability and refinement mod). Don't waste your money on an intake, all of their gains come from the aforementioned turbo inlet elbow. If you are still in warranty then I would go JB4 for power for now. The stock bottom end can handle 420 ft/lbs to the wheels so it can handle the stock turbo maxed but no more. Intercooler, downpipe, and stage colder plugs only for stage 2, you won't gain anything from the rest of the intake plumbing. A catback will gain about 12-15 hp at stage 2 but is expensive and TBH these cars don't sound very good and you will get drone, the downpipe will be enough. I did a GFB DVX which I run as full BOV because these run speed density. Oh also do a catch can for the PCV breather, your intake valves will thank you.

That's not how the haldex tune works. You need a spring upgrade for the relief valve to stop the haldex from bleeding off pressure IOT hold more power.

Not sure why people using oem when that's just not as good as a aftermarket part. Like the rear sway. The rs3 one isn't that good, im actually not happy with how the rs3 handles at the limit stock. It's very nervous on threshold braking. But I took my sway bar off for whiteline and that did neutral it out. It's a nice build but it's not quite all in.

It's an EMD sway bar for an RS3, has a higher rate position than most R/S3 bars offer.

@@flipflop97 must have missed that. I thought he said oem rs3

@@pacoflyer It's a long list of mods to get all the details right, but Zack killed it for us only chatting for 10-15 mins before he drove the car and filmed.

I love the look of this one much more than the new ones. If they made an electric version of this bad boy, dual motors.... man.
