Great work executive union that represent us CUPW members. 4 weeks without pay and gained nothing. $50 a day at the picket line? We are just getting some of OUR money back from union dues you take from us. What did the strike get us? Hurt the company even more, businesses, citizens. Company losing more businesses. I am sorry and I have no opinion on the CP matter. But we just saw what happens when we crush the middle class for 40 years and push people into a corner with nothing to lose. Hopefully we learn from this experience on how to better manage employer and employee relations. In Germany and France, they are more skilled at this, and all employees get minimum 4 weeks off often extending to 5 or 6, wages they can live on, affordable housing, and the ability to afford a family. In return they are asked to be productive, and deliver. They are often just productive as Americans, but without the brutal chronic burnout from being miserable about life or having to work multiple jobs. I think we can learn to listen to each other, and respect each other. We can abandon the American model, it led to Trump. Lets go with the European model and be productive and satisfied in life. Just my thoughts.

There must be a complete overhaul of all areas in order to promote good governance and management, good health and safety, and a path forward for Canadians to provide the services we all need. It's unfortunate the government didn't let this play out. At some point, 55,000 people who hadn't received a paycheque in a very long time would likely have come to realize that a 3%/yr avg wage increase + a fully -indexed defined benefit pension plan + lucrative health/dental benefits + bankable paid sick days + complete job security after 5 yrs of service was actually a very, very fair offer in the first place. Perhaps this would have made those employees who still have jobs (and there will be a lot fewer of them) when the next agreement expires less likely to go on strike to demand annual wages increases 2-3 times higher than the rate of inflation. On the upside, by deferring this until May, people will have time to prepare and to make sure they avoid using Canada Post lest their packages in transit be held hostage again by the union. It will be very eye-opening to see just how much demand for CP services plummets once the backlog has been cleared. This will give a clear advantage/mandate to CP to hold firm on their offer, and if CUPW is smart they will take the offer and run. My money is on them doing the opposite though.

Looking at how the government dealt with backlogs after covid, it would be safe to assume that the backlog won't be cleared by May.

such insensitive comment, you think this is okay for most of Canadians? duh! did you even think about the small businesses who continually lose their profit/monies? how about those Canadians who expect to receive their important documents thru Canada Post because these people who you support keep the mail hostaged? How about the vital rural areas who rely on Canada Post? You're just like these people who only cares about what they can get from this strike and care less about the whole country! shameful!

@@avl3487 I think all but around 55,000 Canadians have little to no sympathy for people who would choose to go on strike and hold people's packages hostage right before Christmas in a futile attempt to pressure Canada Post into giving them an absurdly generous compensation package that it simply cannot afford. I am one of the people whose packages are being held hostage by the workers who walked out rather than deliver the packages in their care, so I know very well what it feels like. It sucks and it is unfair. But this needs to get sorted out and all today's announcement did was punt the problem down the road 5 months. Don't be at all surprised if a strike happens again then.

@jebediahbrownmit2684 i think were on the same page. I just didn't understand well your first comment. 😕 yeah after 5 months atleast Canadians will be more prepared for the strike. I just felt the timing isn't really nice with those 55k workers. Actually not all, some workers are against this timing as its holiday season. But hopefully next year they will reach an agreement.

The government now dictates when you will work and for how much. Strikes are just show theatre before government selected arbitrators are appointed. Meanwhile, private secctor strikes are rare and short. It's different when your employer is also your lawmaker. Conflict of interest, because their only interest is keeping working folks down. Rest assured, Canada Post executives will still get their bonuses this year.

How about try asking “with workers being asked to resume their work while the ongoing investigation and solution seeking continues, will there be any compensation and or thought put into the future negotiations about all the extra hard work being asked of them to rush through the over 1 million parcels that Canadians are hoping to get before Christmas? Cause it’s one thing to go back to work feeling victorious versus feeling defeated and now being asked to resume work at double the effort on the same parameter that made them go on strike in the first place.”

@@SeamusMcFitz-jz9ifFirst off, I wanted to say that I congratulate you on the job you do as it's important work, and I'm sure it pays very well, and deservingly so. However, I don't see how that gives you the right to lecture this man about his own job and his right to strike. Sure, employees of Canada Post make $23.75/hr, but that is not a living wage now-a-days at all. Nobody should be forced to work two jobs or over 40hrs/week just to survive, and I believe companies and oublic services alike auch as Canada Post have a responsibility to see that through. If they're running a deficit, like Canada Post is then that is the conpany's problem and management needs to step up and figure out how to correct the deficit without robbing workers of their fair share. Anyways, that's my two cents on things.

They had support I heard, but the timing sucked, but I dont want to state my opinion on sending the matter to the board. I hope that the government puts the management under scrutiny and ensures a fair and balanced decision so they can have a properly rested and productive workforce and proper management so the company can do better. We do not want these problems to keep happening, so we just have to learn to listen and adapt. We also have to stop gutting our middle class and destroying productivity by not paying people enough to live on one job and by not giving them enough time off to have things to look forward too. How are people supposed to want to be productive if they cannot have time to enjoy life, have a family, or own a reasonable place for themselves? I myself have no opinion on the strike, but I hope we do not continue gutting our middle class. Just my thoughts.

@@Canadian_Goose007 I think many Canadians are suffering economic hardship from 40 years of stagnant wages and actions that have hurt the middle class greatly. I can understand why they would be angry at workers who have actual protections, because they think they cannot do the same. Well its a democracy, they can do the same, but should try to be reasonable, and make sure critical employer and employee needs are met. We are all in the same boat, and a little respect for others goes a long way. I think we can fix our society and economy. The fact the government is trying to learn how to better handle these negotiations is a good sign. Just my thoughts.
