Dude, thank you! This particular episode of the music show is a gold standard for Greek music in general, and I'm glad you got exposed to it. As others have pointed out, the Turkish singer, Dilek Koç, has been living in Greece for the past couple of decades; I watched her in a gig in 2019. She's done something very clever as a niche: she's taken all the songs from the Great Greek Songbook that have Turkish references or shared history, and either found the Turkish original lyrics, or translated her own. So she ends up taking all the orientalist cliches of Greek pop - and reappropriating them. Her entire gig I went to was like that. It was impressive! (The Greek original songwriter of the first song you played was also in attendance, and duetted the song with her.) Aman songs (that's what an "amane" is, in the title) were banned in Turkey in 1934 and Greece in 1936, for the same reason: neither country wanted to know about their shared Ottoman past. The other great thing about the gig was, she was about to release a CD of Cappadocian songs, many of them in Turkish, that were sung by the ethnic Greeks that used to live in central Turkey. The audience was full of the grandchildren of those refugees, and they were having a great time singing along with her. It's the kind of wholesome of past enemies that was inconceivable in Greece just 30 years ago; she moved to Greece at the right time, when it became possible.
