Man I still don’t understand how he was able to think through that play, make that decision, then fake the pass knowing exactly where Kariya was and that the pass was going to connect to him, all within like 1 second at by far the highest level of hockey at that time. Like how

With every game Canada got better. I remember watching this game with my family; the whole of Canada was glued to the television for the final. My favourite moment? - Joe Sakic scoring the last goal with Bob Cole's iconic commentary. What a tournament. What a team!

My favorite moment was obviously the coffin ceiling goal by Sakic near the end of the gold medal game, but after to terrible games by Canada to open the tournament, I’ll never forget injured captain Mario Lemieux, after being benched for the 2nd game, waking Canada up by scoring the first 2 goals against the Czechs in game 3.

I remember those gms how pissed Gretzky was and he did have every right to be he wasn't with the dirty cheap shots the Canadian players were getting without any penalties being called against the other teams si I was wondering if the refs were going to call the gold medal gm properly and they basically did and then r Canadian boys showed just exactly to the world that Canada was and is still the best country in the world for hockey 🏒 😂!!

16:05 You forgot to talk about Eddie the Ego's (Belfour) After playing 0 minutes, but still getting a nice Gold Medal the strap broke and "his" medal fell to the ice. Everyone talks about the Lucky Loonie, (as they should) but don't forget the Loonie with no Luck, Or class. It couldn't happen to a "Nicer" Guy. Good job Canada. I was watching in the A.M. of 1998, while Wayne sat on The bench, Helplessly .... Watching Canadian after Canadian, fail to beat the league's dominator.... Wayne wasn't sitting this time!! Hell No!

Would the Exchange rate be a problem? * *What is worth more, the 2002 Gold medal, the Loonie that was at Center Or the the Golden Goal from Vancouver and finally listing his Gold Medal Winning prize, also his Oophee

The IOC banned professional players, and Soviet players were defined as amateurs. Since all the best Canadian players were in the NHL, the best Canadian players weren't eligible.
@patrickmcneil9180Ай бұрын
The 1950s saw the emergence of the USSR as a hockey power and for decades they were sending their best players to the Olympics while Canada did not, as they were all playing in the NHL. (Credit to the USA, who did break through twice to win gold as an underdog during this 50 year stretch between Canadians. The NHL started sending guys to the Olympics in 1998 but Canada couldn’t pull it off the first go around because they lost to a really good Czech team.

5:55 Gretzky likes to whine a lot, eh. When Canada is losing they always play dirty, slashing, croschecking, poking, cheapshots you name it. But that's okay, that's hockey, eh. European teams suffered this treatment from Canadians for decades, but they learned the game. So by the late ninetees they started to give back. And then is the "poor canadians" being the victims, being "hated". No they just got back what they planted along those years with their superiority complex.
