It WAS a Canadian thing up until they destroyed all of the motels on Collins and all of the trailer parks ouotside of Miami and alog the eastern coast. Now, it's just a few condo owners. We bought out Costa Rica, and like spending our winters in Cuba since the late 90s. This year, NOBODY I talked to is going to Florida, or the USA. We all mostly try to go ANYWHERE but there since the change to uber-MAGAtism. Nice people HATE bigoted idiots.

Yeah Canada is a bizarre country. 10 years ago I'd go to Brampton and say it was basically another country. Nowadays I point to Brampton as a justification as to why Canada is a real country as a different distinct thing from the USA. It's funny how things can change. Canada is wild because you get like stereotypical guys up north riding snow mobiles playing hockey, than you have South Asian Canada/French Canada/Native Canada/Atlantic Canada etc. We're really more like an empire than anything else.@@robus6071

@TheJimprez
@TheJimprez 6 ай бұрын
I'm a 54 year old Canadian. There IS racism, always has been, but it's NOT a huge part of our population and it stays pretty much an inner group of like minded bigot thing. Being racist in public is a good way to get insulted back or to get your face kicked in, unless you live in some rural hole out West (I LIVED THERE, experienced it, and saw it first hand, so no excuses or rants). It was worst BEFORE we had immigrants from eveywhere, living outside of Toronto and Vancouver. Now that people are mingled in with the rest of us in most of the country, it has really mellowed down. The black and Pakistani/Indian jokes of the 80s and 90s are just about gone, except for a few remaining morons, usually over 50. Now, it seems to be more along religious lines, and cultural differences, like LGBT, and Muslims, and it's pretty regional. What is funny, is that the Muslims, who get most of the racism and bigotry thrown theor way, are ALSO bigoted and protesting against things WE value, like the right to be gay in this country, or our right to support Israel in this never-ending Palestinian debate... I guess it's a two-way street. Religion is NOT what we base our values on, and THAT is a sore point with many ultra-religious types, like Taliban-Jesus Christians and Muslim integrists or extremists. The only type that lasted, is the age old Canadian sport of Quebec-bashing, or fist nation stereotyping and abuse. Now even immigrants participate in those. Which makes me wonder about our vetting programs, and how seriously they take the papers they sign to be allowed here. IF immigrants PUSH against our values and customs once we welcome them, they WILL face anger and reproach, it's just human nature. If I went to Saudi Arabia and starter waling down the street with a beer in my hands, I'd probably get arrested and treated like a murderer, so I don't get people coming here and asking us to change our country for THEM!

You folks down south beat yourselves up too much. In college I spent ALOT of time in Michigan, and people are so extroverted and approachable compared to my countrymen. We like our space and privacy up here kind of a bit like Scandinavians. People at the bus stops wont talk to each other, or at the bar its kind of painful to just strike up a random conversation unless you got a buzz going. You guys will just butt into conversations with total strangers with ease and ask questions or state opinions. Just right out of the blue. I actually like that, I find it funny and entertaining. always puts a smile on my face. Canadians are definitely more polite and respectful than Americans(typically), but its just a formality and culture.
