I saw them live on their Triptych tour in Vancouver. It was an experience I will never forget. The special thing about them and probably why they didn’t do well in the States is they are very difficult to classify into a mainstream sound. They are influenced by so many cultural sounds and they’re lyrics are heavy on the metaphorical side. When I saw them live there were at least a dozen or more string instruments including mandolin, sitar, and even a hurdy-gurdy. They switched up playing these instruments within the songs seamlessly that you’d sear their was an orchestra sized band if your eyes were closed. Also before each song there was a story about the inspiration of the song. Their studio albums do not do their live performance justice.

I saw the Tea Party as the opening act for Rod Stewart in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the 1990's. I don't think anyone in the crowd had heard of them. When Jeff Martin started to play with his alternately tuned guitar having sitar-like sounds the crowd took notice. When he sang literally everyone shouted it must be Jim Morrison of The Doors reincarnated. Poor Rod had to follow.

I like a London Fog, it's a specialty tea which the base is Earl Grey but it's frothed like a cappuccino. But on a daily it's a Red Rose black tea, and I've brought down my sugar intake from 5 spoons to 3. If you do another Canadian wk, look at Faouzia, a singer from (near) Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is a young woman who is exceptionally talented and very under-rated. As for The Tea Party, I was fortunate to see them twice in concert, they are amazing! Their largest song (I'm pretty sure) was Temptation, and then other big songs Heaven Coming Down, Messenger, Sister Awake and a newer one is Ocean at the End. Jeff Martin gets placed in the Jim Morrison category a lot, his look is really similar as well. And their sound goes into (I think) central Asian (like Tibet area), which is absolutely fantastic. I thought that was so cool that they were introduced by Jeff Healey, awesome!
