I used to run on this sub division as a conductor with the CP back in 2011 - seeing this scenes once again I immediately get flashbacks to the bitter cold, 3-4 feet of snow drifts, and freezing my hands off while switching out cars at any one of the many industries along the main.

Thanks for looking. From what I heard, they significantly upgraded this line since I visited. CTC, power switches and the like.
@rbfishcs123 Жыл бұрын
@@bnsf7562 They have indeed. When I ran on there it was all manual switches in track warrant control territory, switch heaters that only worked half the time, and extremely slow trackage for a class 1 main line between Harvey & Minot.

Seems like it was a good investment given the merger happening now.

Great video and informative narration. As a railwayman from the UK I am fascinated by Canadian and American railway operations. So different to things here in the UK! I like the way you put the train in the landscape rather than just focussing on the locomotive, as so many others do. Liked and subbed.

Thank you for the kind words, Darren. I've made it my mission to not only capture the train in my photography, but showcase the landscape as well.

North Dakota has some beautiful scenery. Very wide-open. Lots of good catches, man!

Nice to see good quality rail fan video here in northern North Dakota. Very familiar spots for me too. Thanks for posting.

Very cool. I live out on the D&H sub and we see a number of CEFX units, but rarely SD40-2's except on work trains.

Very nice video! The Canadian and U.S. Flags on CP 9774 (at 2:53) were looking really quite worn out!

295? I've never heard of that train before. This was filmed only two months after I left the CP Portal Sub and moved back to MA. Also at 13:20 in this video, the siding the grain train was waiting at should be Baden. Donnybrook is a customer off the main that receives tankers, and is much too small to fit that train.

I recently overheard that Canadian Pacific's Portal sub is Dark Territory or unsignaled. Is this true?
@scoobycarr55585 жыл бұрын
Correction at 7:10 - CP is Dark Territory or TWC - track warrant control

I was between Foxholm and Minot taking the long way back from the air base, and it's brand-new CTC. Much busier than back in the 1960s.

That doesn't make sense, can you explain what track warrant control means?

How many Trains a day, does the CP Portal Sub get?
@bnsf75623 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I do not know. I do know that the majority of the line (if not the entirety of it) is dark territory, controlled by track warrants. I also don't know if any new traffic was added/taken away since this video was made in 2015. If I had to guess, I'd say less than 10 a day.
@austintheman.973 жыл бұрын
@@bnsf7562 I think that makes sense. Even though I have never Railfanned, on the CP Portal Sub myself before.
