This video is a remake because of all the comments I received on the original about this pack not being standard issue and how when I was talking about how I packed it that it wasn’t packed military standard so this is the remake to correct those issues that existed because I was not blunt enough. So this video will cover the ins and outs of this pack and the different parts and the history of the parts and uses for this pack and how this is one of my favorite packs and frame setups. I compare some similarities and differences between the original 64 pattern/lightweight rucksack for the Americans. And this version because there are a lot of differences. I also go over the differences in frame options for this pack since the pattern 64 could work on many different and modern frames. Hopefully you liked this video and subscribed if you like this sort of stuff. Please leave a comment with any questions, additional information, user experiences, or suggestions for future videos and I will do my best to answer them. As always thanks for watching.
Thank you,
Devin K.

Hey Devin, just saw your video, love this pack! I have 2 one in coyote and one in standard green, both from CPGEAR. Mine are set up a little differently but they are awesome frames. Was first issued it in 85 before the 82 pattern was fully issued to the Canadian Forces.

I set mine up with the two C.P. pouches on the sides and butt-pack on the front. You can take off all the pouches and wear them on your belt instead of carrying an assault pack. It is snow/moisture proof-no need for waterproof pack cover. Main compartment is spacious and sleeping bag/tent mounted above. I went with tactical tailor belt and shoulder straps and Shellback metal frame (limited addition) Extremely comfortable and versatile.

venator boschet they check what you have before you pack then they suggest how you pack but no one does it exactly it depends on so many different scenarios etc anyway

We pack around the platoon warrant. Whatever space your main bag has belongs to the warrant. How you decide to pack the rest is up to you.

I just picked up what I am pretty sure is a Gen 1 or 2 version of this pack on a welded frame for $150 CAD and the same equivalent in trade. I am super pumped to have a Canadian ruck for my bushcamping adventures but may switch to a Molle 2 frame I have and put my Pattern 82 ruck on the 64 frame. Decisions....

Use with webbing and buttpack. It allows you to tighten your webbing straps lifting your buttpack. This can put weight on your hips and allow shoulder relief. Put your heavy stuff low on the buttpack.

I loved this pack back in the day, and like yourself have the 'remake' now. I was able to find a welded aluminum frame for the '64 pattern. I did not know there was a difference in shelves for welded vs riveted frames. I want to add the shelf, can you tell us what the differences are?
@DevinK

aka.punishment well a welded shelf is more fare and it’s to tight for the riveted frame

Yup, it's a ruck. Did people actually give you a hard time about how you packed your ruck? That boggles my mind. I used to be 7 Toronto Regiment and as long as we had the things in it that we needed for whatever we were using it for, no one gave a fuck how we packed our rucks. I'm pretty sure we weren't the only unit/regiment that packed our kit how we wanted it. This leads me to believe that people who give you shit for not packing it the way they think it should(?) be packed, have no idea about what they're talking about.

berner yeah people actually gave me shit about it and the fact that I said the pattern 64 rucksack was a standard issue pack because they thought I meant this

That's not completely true, it was used by the airborne regiment and jump company's, well into the 2000's, the external frame is much stronger than the 82 pattern frame was.

bro wtf is "military standard" packing???? just pack whatever it is you need. As long as you can carry it + mission essential kit, no one should bust you about "packing wrong." A good saying- The valise is yours, the main compartment is for the queen. But at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. I know guys who quite literally do the opposite, and sandwich their shit between mission essential kit, making their personal shit harder to access, but all mission essential kit is at arms reach. As long as you can get mission essential kit out fast, then you should be good to go. Since you are using this for civilian purposes, then fuck it do what you want.
