You’re absolutely right. People have gotten WAY too over sensitive over stupid things. We’re all human and we ALL make mistakes from time to time but that doesn’t mean that we deserved to be punished. Yes, it’s true, actions and words have consequences but if we take EVERYTHING sooo fucking seriously, then what’s the point in having fun. I strongly believe that there’s a VERY fine line between being offended and looking to be offended. Remember when Speedy Gonzales got banned because certain people were looking to be offended because they thought of him as an offensive stereotype but it turns out people in Mexico actually REALLY love Speedy. Bottom line, I think the whole cancel culture thing is FUCKING STUPID. I think too many people are reading in WAY TOO MUCH over this shit over movies and cartoons and pop culture in general and they’re completely MISSING the whole point as to why they’re made and what made these classic movies, shows and cartoons so special to so many people. If everyone would just lighten up and not get so easily offended and uptight over stupid things, the world would be a better place. Just saying.

I was playing a game with my friend, he told me a homophobic joke and some random group came over and started basically crying at him. I took my chance and called them homophobic for yelling at a me and they basically just ignored me and started bitching about me and my friend to other people. Basically: Don’t be a massive snowflake. There are things to get offended over, and there are things that aren’t worth the energy.

I think a lot of it comes down to larger issues outside of that one cancelled person. Like if someone did something resembling black face then people might be mad because it reminds them of more aggressive forms of black face which in turn reminds them of the lack of genuine or positive representation of black people in the media which is indicative of a lot of politics and history set up to disenfranchise black people... That's a lot of context that may be in someone's head when they get so angry about what someone else may think is nothing. Problem is the person getting mad doesn't understand it themselves or they do but then would have to realize that doing this wouldn't actually do anything, but they still feel like they should because it's the only time they'll ever get to feel like they have the power to change what's actually upsetting them. Or maybe these people are just jerks Idk. I know that certainly a lot of them are especially when they jump on the bandwagon to attack some random teenager with like 5 followers. I just think that in a lot of cases there is genuine anger that's just been awakened but misdirected.
@toontrooper41032 жыл бұрын
Then again that random teenager could be indicative of the racism that is employed by the children of racists in school and-... I'm just more sympathetic to cancel culture than most even though I don't engage in it. Don't even have a social media so it rarely crosses my mind lmao.
@moethemoon2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I tend to see it the same way. It’s not something I despise, it’s just an interesting phenomenon that I don’t really engage with. And to me it just illustrates how (typically) teenagers’ brains work. I’m not mad at them from wanting change, even though it’s very misdirected lol. I do believe there are things that are worth fighting against. Obviously there are cases where people are just being dogmatic assholes, but people seem to forget that ‘angry mobs’ aren’t exclusive to our era, they are just easily magnified now. I don’t condone what angry mobs do, but again it’s interesting. I don’t believe in calling people “too sensitive nowadays” because I find it’s intellectually lazy and doesn’t see the root of the problem. In every era there are problems and yes some people are gonna be sensitive to them, simple as that. Plus, we live in the age of opinion where everybody and their mama can share it, regardless of if it’s valid or not, and we attach our opinions to our online identity, plus our online identity is increasingly attached to our professional one. This is just a natural consequence of this.
@toontrooper41032 жыл бұрын
@@moethemoon agreed. It's a new platform but not exactly a new story. I think as time goes on and the generations change we'll understand how's and why's of cancel culture.... So that we can have yet another form of it.
@nonamesorry71352 жыл бұрын
What pisses me off is this actually gives power to actually nasty people. Now they can just say "boohoo cancel culture I'm a victim of cancel culture" while calling everyone the N word and the FA word and thinking they are like these people who got cancelled for cosplaying Nicki Minai in 2011. Saying "I hate minorities. I would kill a gay person, or a black person, I am completely serious." Isn't a joke. What I think will happen though is everything will fall into somewhat of a balance one day. The world is like a baby, stuff like human rights has just been invented really. It might sound extreme compared to talking about cancel culture, but what I mean is, we are like a toddler. We are just beginning to become a civilised society really, and there's still horrifying shit going all over the world like Nestle enslaving children or how there are still countries where women have no rights.
