As a flute, and planning on piccolo next year, I can confirm, it is hard at first, but once getting the sound to come out and memorize the notes is second nature, it’s not that bad. For the piccolo one I’ve never had any trauma I just want more of a challenge so I can be a better section leader so I can go for drum major.

they don’t really vibrate, we have to move our fingers back and forth really fast which creates a “vibrating” sound in the music that makes it sound better, which is where the “vibrato” comes from i believe

The sousaphone is pretty cool, but like you said it's crazy expensive. At my first football game I didn't put it together right and the bell came off in the middle of the game and hit the back of a clarinet player's head. And it happened twice!!! My band teacher asked me if the tuba was ok before asking if I was ok. I think the worst part was that my crush was there looking at me like I was crazy...
