Baldur's Gate 3 came out in August of 2023. "I Like Girls" was posted to Jocat's KZbin channel 3 years ago. I think the word "prewritten" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Fans of Jocat would have understood exactly where this came from. Non-fan D&D enjoyers new to his stream probably took offense to this because they had to stop drawing gay rule 34 fan art of themselves with their new favorite twink, kind of like when chat finds out their favorite e-girl has a boyfriend and she's cheating on chat and it ruins their fap experience.

Is it just me, or is the reasoning for the hate JoCat got basically the same reasoning as the Wendigoon hate, in that people just seem to hate because of "vibes" and aesthetics or style. JoCat's style appeals a lot to the wholesome uwu tumblr type of crowd, so if you hate those type of people, you are likely to dislike JoCat's content as well. This lead to the same hate that Wendigoon got, and people just started hating on JoCat based on their preconceived notions of what type of person he was based on his style, and not based as much on the video animation itself.

I'm going to post this now, because whilst I despise kicking a dead horses, it's what twitter (X) does best. Some despicable individual is more then likely going to show up and try to justify the harassment against Jo, I'm going to shut that down before it happens. One of the main justifications for the targeted harassment against Jo, that was spread around on Twitter, was that Jo encouraged harassment during the Hogwarts legacy boycott and so this was revenge/karmic retribution. The tweet that keeps getting brought up, when people claim he was supporting the harassment, is the second of four tweets he posted. The first tweet and the thread of follow ups. Posted after a trans charity stream, which was gatecrashed by a person spitting vile messages in the auto-moderated chat, and claiming (from what I've gathered) that harassment was necessary and anyone not supporting the harassment was an enemy. Mar 3, 2023 "I want to apologize immensely if there was such awfulness in the chat, I will try grab some active moderators for the future. I was unfortunately too focused on the game to notice. We are not here to spread hate, we are here to help trans folk. Dont be like this person please." Mar 3, 2023 "I will follow my own advice and look into the point they're trying to make behind the vinegar: NO, I do not condone harassing people who do not follow my views. if they wont listen to good faith critique, ignore and go where people will. if they are harmful, be helpful." Mar 3, 2023 "the whole point of this charity is to help where help is not being given. Absolutely criticize mistakes in a way that is constructive and respectful, I know I'd want to be informed, but if they are not willing to listen, your time may be better spent elsewhere" Mar 3, 2023 "and lets keep our focus where it's needed: helping trans folk. If someone doesn't want to help, we cant make them. It's sad as more support is always nice, but as I said, time better spent elsewhere." The second tweet and it's follow up, this is the one being used to say he encouraged the harassment. At this point, the harassment was still just people going into chat and spitting vile comments at streamers (like what had happened to Jo) and was something he had already said on stream was awful behaviour. Mar 3, 2023 "anyone shouting "what about the harassment" is taking the topic of conversation and focus away from the main issue: Trans people are still in danger" Mar 3, 2023 "specifically the harassment faced by content creators. it is NOT, nor should it be about us. content creators are not in the same danger that trans people are." The third tweet and it's follow up. Posted the next day after seeing some people deliberately misinterpreting the previous tweet. Mar 4, 2023 "people have already misunderstood this to mean I think its okay for anyone to be harassed or bullied for anyone who came to that conclusion but is still willing to listen: I do not. I have never condoned it, and several times have said the opposite both in tweets and on stream" Mar 4, 2023 "in this I have fallen into the same trap of making it about me rather than the main issue at hand, and for that I apologize. I do hope to get back to the focus of giving help where it is needed asap." The fourth and final tweet and it's thread of follow ups. Mar 4, 2023 "one last thing I want to say: I will not ever encourage my audience to attack, harass, or bully anybody, even the people I may sometimes criticize. If anyone ever does in my name, they are no fan of mine nor me of them. I do not want to spread hate, there's enough of that already" Mar 4, 2023 "there may come a day when some of my audience will use my words as weapons and I may have to make a similar statement again, exhaust every avenue. Such is the nature of being someone of a large following. While I will try me best, understand that I cannot control individuals" Mar 4, 2023 "and understand that I may not do so as often to reach some people's satisfaction, as we all have different standards. That is not me being complacent, sometimes one simply does not want to harp on forever about a subject. Which in this case, I may already have. Take care everyone" I believe there may have been another follow up post later, one made after Jo learned Doxxing had been employed against streamers, but I was unable to find it. All in all, you can stretch the second tweet and it's intended message only so far, encouraging the harassment is miles outside that stretch distance tho. Hopefully that helpful.
