I grew up listening this band as well as PJ, STP, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, etc., and I loved them all. However, I think Candlebox deserves much more credit than it gets. I honestly think this guy, Martin, is one of the best voices not only of his generation, but in rock history.

One of my wife (of almost 27 years now) and I's 3 top rock groups after we got married in Spring of 95'. Them, Silverchair, and Alice In Chains. Every road trip was a rock session with us. I could listen to this album (especially my favorite "Changes" and "Far Behind). We were wild and free, almost like a modern Bonnie n' Clyde (without the law breaking lmao). I'm about to be 55 (she's 48 ...we met in college, so settle down "cradle robber" theorists) and this brings back memories before we had our son and daughter, the last one leaving for college a few months ago. For her to put up with me, my moods, my rotating shifts, etc for almost 30 years tells me everything I need to know. Time flies, man. Wow, man, what a blessed journey and life I have been given. Like our favorite artists (including Candlebox), nothing will take either (family and rock) from me! I had a few times (just before the early 90s and not long ago due to multiple surgeries) where drugs almost took me over. So, drugs may have taken many of our band members of the grunge scene in the 90s, but we keep on rockin' y'all! Sorry I got sentimental and too open in this dissertation. Y'all be good and God bless. Peace...

@@steffffromearth "That’s one of those things that makes him one of the greatest!" I have to disagree that it makes him one of the greatest. I love Candlebox. I've seen them 12 times, but Kevin tends to struggle live. He misses notes. He has pitch issues, and he is inconsistent. Nailing it night after night makes you one of the greatest. The above mentioned issues don't. As far as live singers go he wouldn't break my top 50.
@Theenragedone4 жыл бұрын
@@steffffromearth "our opinions definitely differ! " My standards are most likely higher, or different. I've seen over a thousand shows as a critic, fan, and promoter. I tend to be tougher than most fans on performances. I think Kevin is fantastic in the studio. I love his lyrics, and his song writing. I've been listening to Candlebox since 93. I just wish he was better, and more consistent live. Performing live is the true test of how good a vocalist, or band, is. Due to the above mentioned issues I can't say he is one of the greatest live singers ever. I put aside personal bias, and make those judgements on technical merits, and measurable qualities. As an example I watched Tim Owens perform a 2+ hour Iced Earth set with a Migraine headache, and nail incredibly difficult songs. The two other times I saw him in the next four days, he was just as good, and consistent. Kevin isn't capable of that same level of being consistent. As many times as I've seen Candlebox he has never performed songs the same way, and that includes back to back nights. The set was the same, his performance wasn't. It varied by a big margin, night to night.
@stephanea53642 жыл бұрын
