Winston checked a massive 18 month old English Mastiff and corrected his bad manners. This was the first time the English Mastiff came to the dog park and he was unsure of himself. He showed a little aggression but I think he was just scared of the other dogs and did not know what to do. If you look closely you can see how he widens his eyes when he gets spooked by the other dogs.
There is no violence in this video. This video exists in order to educate people about dogs and dog behavior at dog parks.

Yeah, so many people laugh and mock this woman it amazes me. I looked it up. It is possible. That dog is way bigger than he looks on video. I was confused at how small he looked on video compared to how he looks in person. After I saw him I told my friend, this is the biggest dog Winston has ever seen, and possibly the biggest dog I have ever seen. Even compared to the Giant European Great Danes in my video called "Giant Great Dane Runs Over Cane Corso Mix" (watch it here:kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYPElquVrc90n8U). Those Great Danes are arguably bigger than this English Mastiff (as he was in this video), but they are full grown and he is only 17 months old.

Rock Gracie if yo mastiffs get up to 300 pounds, theres no point in the breed. He's goin to be slow, and fat. 230 where they suppose to be at, maybe even less like 200

This is good, I'm a long time mastiff breeder, and in my experience a 180 pound English Mastiff is far healthier than one that is over 200. They are also more athletic, and more fun to have. Their lifespan will also be more on par with smaller medium sized dogs.

This woman has no business owning a Mastiff. He obviously hasn't been properly socialized. Obedience training does not negate socialization. They are gentle, but are prone to shyness, which leads to snapping. They MUST be socialized. Take them everywhere with you for at least the first year! (Mastiff owner 15 years.)

It's always a bad sign when the owner appears nervous or trying to over-explain his behavior before something happens. You can tell that she's subtly warning him that her Mastiff hasn't been socialized. "First time at the park, He's a bit nervous,he loves other dogs but," and oh yeah, my favorite one, is he sociable? @Che, I have a 215 lbs English Mastiff, they are one of the most docile dogs and not aggressive. If that dog is going to the dog park for the first time at that age, then the owner definitely doesn't know what she is doing. Dogs check each other to establish a pecking order, they rarely get into damaging fights. Being in a leash makes them feel trapped and forces them to attack to protect themselves.

My jack ended up running under a car for shelter , she's still alive and well 14 years old and still acts like she's 10

First 30 seconds of the video and I can tell the woman is nervous and unsure. The mastiff picks up on this nervous energy and feels nervous himself. He also feels confined because of the leash and likely feels the urge to protect his owner because she is nervous and not taking a calm leadership position. She’s talking to the mastiff in a voice we humans use for babies, which causes dogs to become excited. The mastiff will feel that she’s praising him for his nervous state of mind. This is a dangerous situation. A large dog breed especially can be very dangerous when their owners are unsure of themselves. Edit: the fact that she has carpal tunnel syndrome likely doesn’t help her frame of mind when controlling a large dog. She needs to keep an image in her mind of what outcome she wants. Because she does have a physical issue, she needs to really be confidant and powerful in how she presents herself to her dog. It’s possible he can sense that she has some sort of health issue beyond her own nervousness and that amplify the protectiveness that dogs with nervous owners feel.

This dog wants to socialize but can not because it is confined to its owner so it has no other option than to guard. The reason the dog is confined to the owner is becouse the owner wants attention. The owner has crippled hands and the brains of an adolescent. Great combo for controlling a potentially very powerful animal. She can't control it mentally nor physically.

TheDemonologistsHandbook Pits where bred to fight. But that doesn't make them unbeatable. A kangal would destroy a pit in mins, if it's not been taken down already, it was on You tube, I have also seen a rotty trained and used in the Pitt against a Pitt bull, beat a Pitt bull, pound for pound, the Pitt is unbeatable, but this is the issue, pound for pound, a Caucasian shepherd, kangal etc are to big and too powerful for a little Pitt. Pitts, like the old English proper bull dogs, not the squaty pathetic examples of today, use to be pitted against bears, however, the bears where chained up and the dogs where usually set on the bears in 2/3 sometimes 4 at time. There is no way that a Pitt would kill a wild bear like a grizzly one on one. I don't believe a Pitt would win against a badger..

I personally don't care if you believe me or not, it really isn't that hard to believe that a Caucasian shepherd has killed a wolf. Can beat a pit.Show me evidence of pit doing that, I believe that video is still on, a kangal has a more powerful bite than a Pit, outweighs it by 3 times over and can fight for an hour...unfortunately, I'm not a butt hurt Pitt lover that believes Pitts are unbeatable. I do suggest doing some research on the dogs I mentioned before making yourself look stupid and showing a great lack of knowledge.

Dom The Mountain Mastiff yeah it's rare to see women with such large breeds. I have a 120 pound rottie and he is a very well behaved dog. I am around 115 pounds so he definitely outweighs me but it's never been an issue since he doesn't pull. I do not take my dog to the dog park unless my husband comes with me because I do not trust other dog owners. I have had my dog attacked and he usually doesn't retaliate because he will listen to my commands. But I have had a couple close encounters where I know if a really bad fight was started I'm unsure of if I could really separate him and another dog.

Trainer to trainer I am not as sure about the trapped part, but it does set off a long inbred instinct to fight. I always tell people if your out walking your Mastiff type dog, or any large breed, and it's attacked by a pit on the street, then don't pull it's head around, drop the leash, and let your dog defend it'self. More than likely the big dog will stop the fight by rebuffing the pits attack on it's backside, and it keeps your dog from getting really mad which makes the situation worse.

I think something a lot of people don’t consider is that every dog is different, especially these purebred giant breeds. A lot of people make comments in reference to people’s ownership skills when they are still learning. 17 months is not a long time, especially not with that big boy. She has probably made some mistakes along the way like not socializing him at parks and I’m sure she is learning from it. Raising my 2 dogs has been two completely different experiences. My lab mix didn’t go to parks almost ever before we adopted her sister because she was so skittish around other dogs (which is why we got another, which worked even better than we could have hoped). My other dog was raised with pups and loves other dogs. Just don’t judge people too quickly. Everyone is learning.

I will draw ire for this, but I really don’t think it’s a good idea to bring an XL puppy wearing a pain compliance collar to a dog park. And yes XL dogs like Mastiffs are puppies until they are about three. Puppies are too unpredictable and do not know that they are huge, yet. Usually folks who have the XL breeds do playdates with other XL’s while they are learning manners. Most people who have XL’s know other folks who do too. If not then post an ad in CraigsList for playdates. I am backing Winston for the little disagreement those two had. The Mastiff appeared to be giving Winston the stare down. That can be taken more as a threat than the nippy lunge. That smack was very parental. Winston halted that crap quick. Excellent job! Winston is such an awesome guy. Past Parent of a rescue XL and anti-pain compliance collars advocate. And I’m a tree hugger, too. 😜

Lowroad62 my sister tried her hand at breeding Dobermans. She couldn't control the jumping, which got on everyone's nerves. The final straw for her was when the bitch tried to kill all her puppies. We saved five, but one of the pups that she literally tried to kill as it was being born was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She was the easiest to find a home for, being free and all. Dobermans are so damned hyper and the pair of them chewed the hell out of her house. Lol it was hilarious, and don't tell her I said that, but it really was. I'm still giggling about the mess. She tried the collars with the two prongs on each link that go into their neck and those dogs would pull and jump and bleed. Idiots, they are not the smartest breed. Oh puppy shopping. I love looking for a puppy. It gives you the excuse to go and look at all the litters and play with them. I am a XL dog person, at least I was until I ended up with two bad breeder rejects. The bitch was going to put them in a box and have her son put them in the woods or a dump site. They are long haired double dapple dachshunds. Try saying that three times fast. We ended up with a couple of more of her rejects before she called it quits. Our fourth, and that bitch's last pup is a white dachshund. Deaf and only has one eye and it's a microphthalmic eye, so it's a tiny eyeball. He has no clue that anything is wrong with him, though. Dachshunds are stubborn as hell. I've never had to work so hard to get through potty training. They will only learn something if there is more in it for them then a treat. Spoiled rotten. I love my fur babies and wouldn't trade them for anything, but I do miss having a big dog. My last was a boxer/XL Staffordshire Terrier, at least that's what we figured out. When he was all muscled up his top weight was 145 lbs. He was my son. I lost him to cancer almost eleven years ago. I miss his snuggles everyday, still. There is nothing like having a XL dog. Growing up we took in lots of strays, big and small, but I had two dogs the were mine. Bo was an old English Sheep dog. Big and beautiful, but mostly hair. He died unexpectedly from a heart issue before he was two. Then a year later I bought a brindle Great Dane. He had no clue he was big. He even slept with me in a twin bed. He was a great dog. I had had him for almost three years. Someone stole him right out of out fenced in yard around the house. A neighbor saw the whole thing and didn't say a word. People suck. There had been a rash of dogknappings, mostly little loud mouthed dogs. Probably dog bait, that's what the papers said. I really hope he didn't up in a ring. He was so beautiful I figure even a dog fighter would want him for a pet. Oh good grief this is a long winded comment. That came out really fast. I'll go ahead and stop now. Have a good day!

Winston was teaching Gus doggy manners. I hope Gus’ owner learns to take the leadership role soon because it looked Gus was very unsure, tail between his legs, & he probably didn’t trust his owner’s ability to protect him? My guess as to why he was snapping at all the other dogs. Bringing a scared dog into a dog park is asking for a fight.

I think he was protecting his mom. Keeping others out of her space he wasn't snapping at the other dogs just to do it. So she needs to claim her space and be the dominant one over him. she relies on him for her safety and I'm sure Gus can feel that energy is what is causing that behavior. They both need a little more training her to be the leader and Gus to become a little more secure than the dog park safe.😬

I have a 250 pound mastiff of which I trained myself. If she sent her dog away for training she should have kept up with his training when she got him back. She’s not a good pack leader. She’s just as scared as him. It’s not enough to send him off.

That English mastiff is nowhere near 210 pounds. The girl who humiliated him is definitely somewhere between 2 to 300 pounds but that dog is roughly 150 pounds. Sad when you see an owner create a broken dog out of a proud breed. A proper mastiff fears nothing. Too bad true mastiffs are rare these days.

I agree and no way will it top out at 300lbs. That's just BS. I owned and bred FIla, Bullmastiff and Great Danes and love the English but this lady is just blowing smoke. Plus this lady needs to learn how to teach and treat a dog. Mastiff's are typically mellow and very easy going. She kept him on a lead and was more interested in all the attention she was getting versus socializing the dog.
