Hi Joe, with this training video, it seems you have returned to the ACSD wooden cane system. And the emphasis of training appears to be on the the importance of the cane. Where you previously emphasized the Cuban system, with the weaker metal cane, and it was the importance of the system of techniques and not the cane. My question is this: "Is the ACSD system and wooden cane superior, in self defense, to the Cuban metal cane instruction? What is your preference, between the two, for self defense? God bless. Doug.

Thank you for your inquiry Doug! PLEASE NOTE: Caner Tip Tuesday is offered in seasonal themes, which has never modified strategy, concepts, etc. Different curriculums emphasize different aspects. That said, ACSD being a shaft striking, Powershot system prefers Canes that can withstand impact (metal Raven, hardwood Canes). The emphasis has ALWAYS been on training over the Cane as training is what saves lives. Well known/established Joe Robaina soundbites: "I don't care what Cane you're carrying, tell me who the Caner is- You'll always be limited with your Cane to what your training allows you to do." etc- The ACSD core strategy (PS Template)/Training reflect the tool used (impact Canes). - Sobrevivencia is a stand alone specialty curriculum which has more similarities than differences to ACSD CaneFlow. The differences stem primarily from the difference in Canes used. (BTW, SV Cane use was always common pliable aluminum, not designed for impact like air craft grade Raven for example). BOTH methods have carry over to other tools like knives. Which is more effective depends on who's doing what? How trained and versed are you in either method? We believe you can't go wrong with ACSD Leader training with an impact Cane (metal or wood) because it's designed to make you effective in a couple hours and works with your adrenalin response (gross motor skills)- That said, the SV strategy of conflict awareness/avoidance, mental/physical components and peaceful resolution are tough to beat. Please look up "SOBREVIVENCIA" - Joe Robaina did a series on the Cuban born Cane art of survival which emphasizes footwork and "sneeky" ninja like strategies to defeat bigger, stronger, faster, younger. It also includes a built in movement based exercise system for health and functional fitness. The founder is currently 67 and still sharp as a tack. Thanks again and have a Blessed Day Sir!

Hi Joe, I’m in San Diego,Ca. And I’m very interested in finding a school or training facility that teaches ACSD. Any recommendations? I’m 69, and have some physical limitations and hoping that ACSD will help me work through some of them and increase my confidence and ability to protect myself and others family members.
