So important to work through these problems with our dogs. It builds the relationship for one. I totally agree about these purely positive animal activists. Soon it will be impossible to even own a dog. I can't imagine not being able to use tools. I will continue to use tools no matter the Law if it keeps any dog safe. Really great job here Robert. Thank you : ) Great job as always.

Hi Robert! Love your videos! I have a 5 month old GSD/Nordic mix that’s great walking on leash until distractions come into play. She can even focused heel past cats or other dogs during training (with the right treat/toy motivator and understands the front yard boundary, as well as the implied stay in commands even with distracting toys and food) but has recently started acting crazy trying to approach other dogs on regular walks. I calmly walk back and forth and correct when she gets to the end of the line but somehow this is causing extra excitement as her behavior gets a little worse each week. She won’t listen to commands or obey common leash manners. We can’t walk by other dogs now without her lunging at the end of her leash and me having to walk away with her. She’s already a lean 60 lbs so I want to get this behavior under control ASAP. Don’t know if I should be correcting more or differently or just ignoring the behavior and walking by with her to show it’s not that fun. We sit outside bi-weekly and just watch other dogs and people go by with treats too and she does great. It’s just the walking. I’ve realized that I was probably training her too long too early and am tamping it back a little to build more drive and excitement for our commands. How do I fix the walking problem without creating a reactive dog on leash? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as everything I’ve seen that you’ve provided in your videos has worked wonders for us! Thanks from myself and crazy Samara!

Hi Rob, where can I find Episode #1, thanks for answering the question about my dog barking at the cat, they are starting to get along a little better, however, i'm not holding my breath as the cat is always too scared of the female GS puppy, all the puppy wants to do is play and sniff her,lol. Love your work mate.

Just fyi..I had two cats who I got as kittens when I had an older dog and they got fairly easily used to each other but when a new puppy arrived..it took my adult cats almost a year to get used to the dog. Adult cats don't take to changes very easily but don't give up hope too quick!

Love your video. You are absolutely right on a lot of points. My dog went through some crazy teen phase, just wish I found your videos early at that time. I went through a lot of trial and errors, and like you said, positive training does not work all the time. Currently I am still struggling with recall. What do you do to get a solid, consistent recall with big distraction?

Prong collars are actually kinder and safer. A light touch is a must. Mimics a mommy dogs grab and shake at the back of the neck, etc. Never ever jerking a dog around. In fact a chain collar is far more dangerous with an owner that has flipped out and jerking the dog around. Broken tracheas, broken necks and good luck getting trust from your dog any time soon. No collar will help a human that is unable to control themselves.

Thanks Robert for all the useful education. My dog 1 yr old, she only pee at the right place when I am around, but when i left home for work, she don't automatically go to that spot too pee and poop but other area. Ive been crate training her for 8 mths and bring her to the desired spot giving her praise and treat when she did her biz at the right spot but somehow failed when she is alone. What went wrong? Seriously in need of help

Great video Robert, as always very informative and ur answers can really help ppl, ( if they listen). The very best collar I used for my Mal was the 2.25 Herm Sprenger it's a lot stronger than it looks. Do Not Snatch on the leash a very light pressure is all it takes.

Just another great video!! lots of great info! one question, at what age should I let my puppy off leash? I have seen a 3 month old puppy with an owner that has him off leash all the time, so should i let my 4 month old lab off leash as well? or should i reach a certain milestone in my training first and disregard the age?
@RobertCabralDogs

When the puppy has a solid recall. I’d wait till he’s at least 6-9 months.

@@RobertCabralDogs so it is a must that he has a solid recall by thr age of 6-9 months? One othet question is it okay when walking him on a leash if he "leads" but not pulls but as soon as i change direction he follows? The dog is always on my left side and stays he just varies between front and back

Hi Robert, thank you for answering my question. I am indeed planning on buying a martingale collar from Amazon. Also..I like this format of you answering several questions in one video. It makes the "system" in all your advice much clearer. And thereby individual advice more clear as in how to exactly apply it.

My sister has three kids and a GSD about 12 months old (show line). She wants a working line one to possibly compete in IPO type sports. She doesnt have a big back garden but lives right at the back of a huge park/fields. Would you recommend she gets a working line GSD in this situation or not? Her GSD now is lazier than mine (and thats lazy!! 😂😂) so she is no good for IPO as she just doesnt have the drive. Ive told her to think hard but even im unsure as i dont know if i would recommend it either.

Robert, please go on your tangent about animal rights activists and nut case politicians whenever it fits into one of your videos, there's no need to apologize. Those people are out there spreading their warped message and views all day long, even when there's no one around to listen to them, lol. So we (responsible pet owners and canine lovers) need an experienced, calm and informed voice of reason (that person is you) to inform owners and interested parties that they aren't doing something wrong with their obedience training. Thank you for all the information you put out there in your videos and how you make yourself available to answer questions from your followers.

Hello I love your videos ! But i have a question that i havent been able to find a concrete answer on. I know we need to control the environment so they do not build bad habits but by overly controlling the environment and putting up anything our pup will chew will that just extend the chewing issue ? Will we always have to keep things out of reach or will he grow up knowing what he has been able to chew on ? For example he always chews blankets we have tried bitter spray and leave it commands, giving him a stuffed kong, ect but he wont stop chewing the blankets so we just have to keep them away from his reach. But I eventually want him to be able to enjoy the bed with us and lay with us when we watch family movies ect... is being to overly controlling of his environment not teaching him? Is it going to bite us in the end ?

hey, i really love your videos, i had a mal puppy in 2017 but i had to return him ( heartbroken ) because it was obvious that being in an apartment did sit well with him. and now we moved countries and we really want to have a malinois puppy again. still living in an apartment but it's bigger so as far as being in an apartment goes, it does provide more space than the last apartment. i know about the breed and have been researching it for a long time, even when i had little Bruno i was out with him 3-4 times a day and i started training him but i wanted to ask here cuz maybe you might see the comment, do you have like a whole line of videos about basic training with a 2 month old mal puppy and like, the basic kind of stuff that has to be foundational and follow through type of advice for the best way to engage this dog. i know what kind of dog it is, and that's why i m still on the fence a little bit, we really love the breed and we want a dog ( for me, the kind of dog the malinois is, it's the only dog that i would ever have especially because its high drive ) but i don t want to impulse buy one and wreck it. i am an active person, i run and walk a lot and exercise and what not and with a dog i would of course put in everything a malinois needs in terms of getting out and working with him and working his energy but yea, i really wanna be cautious also because i know there are 1000 other breeds that are less energy driven but after i had my Bruno, i can t.. i don t like other breeds anymore :))), i don t know how to explain it. That dog was amazing. i ve watched a few of your videos but i m asking if you can point me towards those that would help me with knowing the important aspects and starting everything there is to do with a mal puppy. i don t want to have one and not train him.
