Bobby Brown Paul has a unique style. He may not be some Uber technician but his grooves are killer and really gave cannibal an interesting layer in their style. Cannibal is a meat and potato’s band and Paul is a meat and potato’s drummer. I love his style personally but your right he is mediocre in terms of technique. Ultimately I don’t listen to music for technique, I listen for quality jams and Paul and the boys have provided that consistently.

I'm not a huge death metal or Cannibal Corpse fan, but I respect the hell out of them; especially Paul. Incredibly humble, down to earth and engaging. Despite being in a really successful and influential band he still feels like a "blue collar", salt of the earth type guy. Been a fan since the early 90s. Opened a few local shows for them in the late 90s/early 2000s, and was fortunate enough for my band to be offered a supporting slot on the 1349/Skeletonwitch tour. 100% pro EVERY night. Very down to Earth people who love their fans immensely, and are very hospitable to their support acts. Sitting in the back lounge of the bus with Paul while he told stories of the old days of Cannibal will always be with me. Their professionalism, unwavering love for their fans, and sticking to their guns is a great blueprint for a successful band. Love these guys. Paul, Alex, and Rob especially. Legends for a reason. I'll tell my grandkids those tour stories one day.

Great interview! Funny how he thought Metallica was too extreme at the time. I felt the same way about Cannibal Corpse for little while. But I was totally enthralled by Altars of Madness and blasting that tape in the car with my friends was a great memory from high school. But that too was 'too edgy' for me lyrically, especially since my mom was on my case after finding my Obituary and Malevolent Creation tapes. I blacked out all the lyrics of the AOM cassette with a Sharpie out of fear of her finding it. Heh! Time gives you a different perspective on these things. But at the end of the day you can't beat a good string of chugs and cymbal mutes, it appeals to the caveman metalhead inside.

So many memories he brought up about Buffalo! My original hometown. We moved to Akron New York, Jack Lived down the street from me! We hung out many of times, I was younger and just starting to play guitar! One great memory was having all of Beyond Death pull up in a van and I went to House of Guitars in Rochester! I’ll always remember Alex walking through school with his Metallica Ride the Lightning patch on his jacket, these were some of the coolest guys! They’re all so humble.

The best thing about Cannibal is that their newer albums are just as good as their older albums. There’s definitely been a change in style and sound over the years - as you’d expect in a band spanning 30+ years - but each album is just as enjoyable. From the classic Barnes era, to Kill, to Evisceration Plague, to Skeletal Domain. I love all those albums. You could say any of their albums are your favourite, and no one would argue with you, because they’d get that that particular album speaks to you, and is good enough to be someone’s favourite. And that can’t be said about many bands.

Are there much much heavier bands now and all the way back to the mid 90's - absolutely! of course - but were there any back then? -pre Reign in Blood? fuck no there weren't SLAYER showed the labels that the extreme deep end Metal acts COULD sell albums - they COULD sell out venues and COULD actually play their instruments. - they COULD maintain the intensity and hold themselves together to campaign on World Tours- Reign in Blood was the most important album in the history of Death Metal The music that immediately followed would have still been written and recorded and produced because nothing was going to stop that scene from exploding but it would have taken a lot longer - the suits still werent 100% SLAYER didnt just usher in Death Metal they kicked the fucking doors right off the hinges R.I.B. was the perfect album at the perfect time by the perfect band and the rest is history

Paul is the man... Great interview what would be cool if Chris came back and maybe did a couple shows for the 30th anniversary or even just came out and maybe something a couple songs I don’t know if it would happen but that would be pretty cool
