Bobby Brown Paul has a unique style. He may not be some Uber technician but his grooves are killer and really gave cannibal an interesting layer in their style. Cannibal is a meat and potato’s band and Paul is a meat and potato’s drummer. I love his style personally but your right he is mediocre in terms of technique. Ultimately I don’t listen to music for technique, I listen for quality jams and Paul and the boys have provided that consistently.

Great interview! Funny how he thought Metallica was too extreme at the time. I felt the same way about Cannibal Corpse for little while. But I was totally enthralled by Altars of Madness and blasting that tape in the car with my friends was a great memory from high school. But that too was 'too edgy' for me lyrically, especially since my mom was on my case after finding my Obituary and Malevolent Creation tapes. I blacked out all the lyrics of the AOM cassette with a Sharpie out of fear of her finding it. Heh! Time gives you a different perspective on these things. But at the end of the day you can't beat a good string of chugs and cymbal mutes, it appeals to the caveman metalhead inside.

The best thing about Cannibal is that their newer albums are just as good as their older albums. There’s definitely been a change in style and sound over the years - as you’d expect in a band spanning 30+ years - but each album is just as enjoyable. From the classic Barnes era, to Kill, to Evisceration Plague, to Skeletal Domain. I love all those albums. You could say any of their albums are your favourite, and no one would argue with you, because they’d get that that particular album speaks to you, and is good enough to be someone’s favourite. And that can’t be said about many bands.
