Canning Candied Jalapeños with My Mom! 🌶👩‍🍳🥰
RECIPE:
Cowboy Candy (Candied Jalapeños)
Recipe from Patricia Barwick
3 lbs fresh Jalapeños
2 c. apple cider vinegar
6 c. sugar
2 tsp. Garlic powder
½ tsp. Turmeric
½ tsp celery seed
1. Remove and discard stems from peppers. Slice into ¼ inch slices. Set aside.
2. To a large pot add cider vinegar, sugar, garlic powder, turmeric and celery seed and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to Med Low and simmer for 5 minutes.
3. Raise the heat to about Med High to bring mixture back to a boil. Once boiling, add the pepper slices. Allow to return to a boil, then reduce the heat again (Med low) and simmer additional 4 minutes.
4. Transfer peppers to clean glass canning jars, filling jars to within ¼ inch of the upper rim of the jar.
5. Only the syrup should remain in the pot. Increase the heat to bring to a full rolling boil. Boil like that for about 6 minutes to thicken the syrup.
6. Ladle syrup into the jars with the jalapeno slices.
7. Wipe rims of the jars then screw on canning lid jars. Process the peppers in a water bath for 10 minutes for ½ pint jars.
8. Label and Enjoy!
Makes approximately 4-5 ½ pint jars.

Well this was just DELIGHTFUL! When I was a younger woman and my son was just a little guy we lived in a small town in northern New Hampshire. My in-laws lived there too. One of my favorite activities during that period was taking evening walks at dusk and looking at the beautiful lighting emanating from the windows of the homes I passed. It always gave me a warm feeling inside. All these years later when I watch a video you’ve done with your Mom, antiquing on the road, or a video like today’s it inspires that same familiar warm feeling I loved so much. I love that you made small batches and had fun in between them. I tend to think that I need to make large batches which can become overwhelming and almost makes me dread it. I'm impressed that you stressed the value of wearing gloves. My mom and I pickled hot cherry peppers one year and got terrible burns on our hands. Good Morning Garden Answer friends, from Rainy Traverse City Michigan. What a great video! Love everything about it! Great harvest with the Jalapeños. I had not heard of the candied cowboy mix.. I love Jalapeños, so this was a wonderful shared recipe, now I may have to buy canning supplies and Jalapeños to give this a try. Love the canning tutorial, it reminded me of many days helping my Mom can everything when I was a young & we would store in our basement. So sad the kites were not cooperating, but fun nonetheless.
