I've stopped trying to convince people that rim rake bikes from the 2000s are still capable through speach. It's much more satisfying to drop them just too prove a point. Marketing is a disgusting deception.

Yeah....they were unique....I had a Colnago Super a few years before and dare I say it..I wondered what all the fuss was about. It went ok but the Cannondale was something else. It was also a bit of "Stars and Stripes" exotica and bucked against the buying trends at the time (1998)...I am not sure that Trek who popped up later (because of you know who) ever managed to capture what Cannondale managed to start....premium brand identity......anyway, all water under the bridge..

Great video! KZbin is just now bringing this vid to me. Thanks, algorithms! I own a 2013 CAAD10 Black Inc. that I bought original in.... 2014. Got lucky to snatch up the last one at the cycling shop.... size 58. I'm NEVER getting rid of that thing. It's still in perfect condition. 100% stored indoors the entire time. Full SRAM RED 22 set, some fitting & appropriate upgrades. Man..... I may need to do a video on it soon! Cheers!

The CAAD 10's are probably the best looking aluminum frames ever produced and have spectacular functionality. I've lusted after the Black Inc. version for years but can't find one in a size 52cm. Those Ksyriums SL's are the best descending wheels I've ever ridden, absolutely zero flex and track like they're on rails. Great video and a good reminder I must remain vigilant in my hunt for a Black Inc. Caad!

Great video Luis! The CAAD10 will always be the standard by which all aluminum bikes are graded, imo. I would give special shout-out to the 2013 Specialized Allez S-works, for it's weight, responsiveness and comfort. I do think the CAAD's geometry is superior though - you can keep all the new cookie-cutter, lowered seat stay frames! - No super bike; only Super Legs!

Have a 2009 Allez without the dropped seat stays, only upgraded to 55mm carbon rims, and it's still a killer, mostly future proof, ride it just as much as my more up to date rigs with no qualms at all, a great bike if you can snag one, just update your wheels, possibly your groupset.

I remember Cannondale print ads touting the CAAD 10 as World’s Finest Aluminum Road Racing Machine. My 2013 has over 10K miles on it and except for grief from the down-to-a-price original crank (replaced with a Hollowgram SISL 2) it’s been trouble free and is still one of my favorite bikes. Wow, thank you for the Intel. I just picked up a caad10 for $700 including shoes, the same Italian saddle and an extra front wheel and a training rig. Yet to give it a true test but I stumbled across several vids like this. I had no idea this was such a gem. I was stumped at how smoothly it absorbed bumps and debris. Loving the 105 shifters as well. Just one question, how can I get the Year? On the bottom of the frame it says "B330" but I couldn't find much out here.. I've been ambivalent about a road bike purchase but at that price range I couldn't pass it up. So far it def is making me want to ride more than ever before All comments are welcome!

I’m a little late to the party here, but I thought I’d add my two cents…I have both a CAAD3 and a CAAD10. The Saeco CAAD3 was my primary race bike for 10 years (I LOVED that bike!) and I got the CAAD 10 as a “warranty” replacement for an even older (first gen) Cannondale frame. I prefer the ride of the CAAD3…I’m a big, strong rider and that CAAD3 is super stiff! The CAAD10, while having a little “softer” ride, (the seatstays aren’t as beefy as the CAAD3’s) always feels a little spongy to me and doesn’t seem to leap forward with each pedal stroke like my CAAD3. Steering input seems about the same between the two. And, (minor points) the CAAD3 has a standard threaded BB and 1” headset (with quill stem) while the CAAD10 has an oversize headset and BB30 (I had the threaded adapter installed so I could continue to use my existing BB- this setup has worked well for me). I like both bikes, but the CAAD3 responds better (for me) and that Team Saeco color scheme still looks fantastic!!

This is exactly the discussion I’ve been scrolling to find. I have a CAAD5 Saeco that I don’t ride very much because it’s my garage queen in mint condition. It’s been upgraded to a modern Dura Ace 11-speed groupset. My daily however is a Sworks Tarmac SL6 with disc brakes and all the modern BS. Well let me tell you I took the Cannondale out today for one of those once in a blue moon rides and I kept thinking to myself: in what ways is the Tarmac any better than this bike?? The Cannondale’s mechanical shifting was for the most part imperceptible to any of my contact points on the bike, and it just blew me away! So responsive and not at all tooth rattling like so many people complain about. After watching this excellent video, I’m so very curious how they could have improved on this winning formula over the next 5 generations from CAAD5 to CAAD10. Is it lightyears better? If so, I’d love to know how because holy smokes this old bike is so good. BTW the period correct Dean Ti seatpost is probably playing a pretty big role in the CAAD5’s perceived suppleness.

Great segment Luis! My first aluminum bike was a 1998 Specialized Allez. Yeah I have always been "on a budget". That frame had seamless welds, so it appeared to be fused together. My 56 cm frame had steep, to me, 73 or 74 degree head and seat tube angles. The ride was stiff and fast! It accelerated with no hesitation and it was my first ride with "brifters". It came with a Shimano 105 9-speed groupset, 13-25 rear, 52 x 42 front. I did swap to a carbon fiber fork and switched to Fulcrum III racing wheels. If I got dropped, it wasn't the bikes fault, just me being in my 40's then and not having the time to train properly! Most of the time I could keep up with the young guys if the ride was 2 hours or less! Great video, the marketing hype is almost intolerable these days. Let's just all get out and ride our bikes!!

My road bike is a 2009 Cannondale CAAD9 -7 matte black. I purchased the bike new as a retirement gift to myself. I didn't know how special the bike was until I did more research & found out that it was the last year of Cannondale bikes were made in America. I had NOT been riding it for a while & only made very few changes to the bike since purchased. I now ..... have a new interest in the bike and I am currently looking for THE SAME WHEELSET you had on your bike.. The last step would be to UPGRADE the groupset. I love Campy & my bike came with a fake style Campy setup. The other option on the table is SRAM wireless. As always GREAT information ...... KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

Never, ever, EVER underestimate an aluminum Cannondale. Period. It should be chiseled into stone somewhere and memorized by bike lovers everywhere. There's a reason why aluminum Cannondales have a cult following. I would love to get my hands on a CAAD 10 in my size for reasonable money. Not long ago a friend gave me a beat up '92 Series 2.8 Cannondale frame. I stripped, polished, re-stickered, and built it with a 2nd gen Sram Red 10 speed groupset another friend gave me as well as some parts I had hanging around my basement. I treated it to a new Columbus Minimal carbon fork since the original bonded aluminum one was questionable, and I had to pick up some odds and ends that weren't terribly expensive...BB, headset, derailleur hangers, etc. The rear triangle even manages to (barely) clear 25mm tires! Like your CAAD10, I've ridden it in all sorts of situations and it's great at all of them. I love my other bikes, but the fact that a 30 year old free frame with free parts can be so darn good compared to my '15 S-Works Tarmac is terrifying. And it turns more heads! 🤣 It's 85% the bike my Tarmac is at 15% of the price once you factor in the stickers and polishing supplies I needed. And if it gets scratched all it needs is a quick buff!

Great video!! Supercars and motorcycle have a engine to measure they’re performance and be judged on they’re worthiness, when it comes to bicycles for me what makes it a “superbike” is what makes up my dream of a bicycle, money no object! But since the motor is ourselves means anyone with a stronger motor than ours can put a smack down on us with a $200 machine compared to a $20,000 dream bike 🤷🏽‍♂️

Glad to see this bike. I have a new old stock CAAD4 in grey as a project, you don't see many of these on the roads anymore neither as it is the case of the CAAD10. The CAAD4 frame is the frame on which Cippolini won its victories on the Tour de France in the late 90's. The craftsmanship on the welds is extremely high much better than any Colnago Dream or aluminium Bianchi or even alumnium Pinarello. The magic of the CAAD10 was the result of an optimization from the CAAD 8 optimo introduced some years before. Nowadays Cannondale frames are made in Taiwan and with less beautiful welds and probably not the sale quality than when they were made in Bedford.

I own and still ride my Cannondale R3000 CAAD7. Since I've not ridden a new bike, I can't effectively compare performances. I just came back to riding after 13 to 15 years off the bike. If the Cannondale underperforms, it is probably the rider☺. So far in fast group rides and a GranFondo event, it performed well with riders using new bikes. I did notice the speed of the new bikes in non-technical decents, but maybe it was just me. I won't sell my Cannondale, but then, I won't invest on a new bike until I am back into what I think is good riding shape.

I owe caad10 and 12. Absolutely agree, caad10 is sharp as hell and racy. Crispy shifting with outer cables. Great handling, real torpedo! 12 is a tiny bit softer but still stiff and racy. Both bikes give amazing ride feeling, harsher than steel or carbon which I have on the other bikes. I think caads are super bikes when well configured. Classic frame shape, great handling. If you want to be fast and aero jump on the tt machine;) why to compromise with modern aero road bike.

I have the 2015 CAAD 10 Racing Edition gray/matte black color with full Dura Ace 9000 Mechanical 11 Speed. It’s DI2 and Mechanical compatible. The rear brake routes through the top tube as vs on the outside on the left of the top tube like the non Di2 version. It’s still the same frameset as the Di2 version and geometry it’s just that, that is the only two differences. I built it up custom and still have the bike, it still rides the same as when I first rode it, and in Fact it’s stiffer and lighter than most carbon elite frame sets out there and it rides like my carbon bikes. I won’t ever get rid of it. It’s my go to bike. It’s stiff, tough, strong, light, and durable. It’s bar far the best aluminum frame set I’ve ever had.

Great video, Luis. Congrats! I also am a fan of the AL Cannondale, and your CAAD 10 Is pure butter. Agree 100%, to fine tune the harsh ride of the frame, you need the best wheelset, seatpost, saddle and tires you can put in. My choice, Schwalbe or Vredestein race tires in 25mm. Keep It Up!

Luis, Great video. My superbike killer is my Caad9. It was my first road bike. I’ve ridden CF and ti bikes. Somehow I always gravitate towards my Caad9 when I want to hammer against the boys with their $10k cf bikes. The bike just feels right in a fight. It’s an old dog but still has the bite. Recently picked up a Ritchey Road Logic which I should have done long ago. That’s a different story. Hope you get a chance to pick up a Logic and do a review on it. Love the channel! I always used to laugh at the posseurs on fancy high end road bikes because I was a young bike mechanic in the 80's who couldn't afford them. My first race as a cat 4 was at the National Capitol Open, in D.C., Mel Pinto was the big sponsor. As we lined up for the start, an experienced rider asked me "Are you ready for for a real crash fest?" Unbelievably, it had never occured to me that there would be blood, and, bike damage. Sure enough, on the last lap, it was crash at the front, not in the middle or back of the pack. I needed to ride over a dude, gashed my sidewall, but one mile later, managed to bag 2nd place after leading the whole lap. And Mel put the medal on me. It was an awesome start for a young guy. But unless you are rich guy, leave the fancy kit for time trial or road races, Criteriums are dangerous!

I appreciate the validation. I’ve always told people that if I had to win a race, it would be my CAAD 10. A really nice feature is that there are no hidden cables … SOOOOO easy to work on. The one drawback is the BB 30 bottom bracket, but that was solved that with a BBinfinite cartridge. And to think that I bought it because of its “Gulf Ford GT” paint job.

What is the other alloy bike? At the end you say one of the 2 best ever made. I picked up a 2012 CAAD8 for almost nothing, put ritchey carbon bars, carbon seatpost, and tubeless rims on it. It has no problem keeping up with fast group rides and when it comes time to hammer it does not disappoint. I previously owned a 2013 Allez Smartweld. Had high hopes for that bike, but the geometry was bizarre and the ride was punishing. Cannondale know how to engineer a great riding alu frame. Sadly I believe the CAAD13 went even more soft, safe, generic compared to the 12. Great videos, I subbed.

Hello Luis -- I just did a "Bike Profile " on a CAAD 10 bike on my channel. I had one built up for local Crits but did a lot more than that on my CAAD 10. I claim it as one of the best frames ever made regardless of material. In the age of the $15,000 electronic disc brake carbon "10% stiffer and 10% lighter and 10% more comfortable" bullshit the CAAD 10 would run circles around it. Even though I love my steel bikes I would own another CAAD 10

Owned my CAAD10 from new since 2011. Still rides brilliantly. To compare, I have a Giant TCR Pro1 2016 which is a beast. But I cannot tell much difference between both. Identical geometry and ride feel. I live in the UK so weather can be filthy. So the BB30 wasn't very user friendly for bad weather. Only thing I changed was fitting an FSA threaded aluminium sleeve that adapted to Shimano axle. I've fitted an Ultegra bottom bracket many years ago and it's pretty much fit and forget. Is there a noticeable difference between the CAAD 10 frame and the CAAD 9 ? I know the 9 is the last version produced in Bedford, PA in the states. After that production moved to Taiwan. It would be nice to grab a 9 with the " handmade in USA" on the seatstays and an American flag on the top tube. To me, that really represented what Cannondale was all about.
