Wonderful canoe camping trip with my wife. We camped at backcountry site 72 in the Great Smoky Mountains. Fontana Lake. Gunter Branch.

We just parked at Flat Branch in July. We just posted a video about site 98 and two more to come on site 73. We wanted to camp at 72 but there were no reservations. Great video!

Is this 72? On the permit map, 72 is a peninsula, not an island.

It was basically an island. The north side was separated by about 20 yards of waist deep water. I can see how it would be a peninsula if the lake levels were low.

@@jamiern2 Thanks for replying! I was just trying to clarify if it was the same site I'm looking at reserving. Thanks.

Does site 72 have any restroom?
@jamiern22 жыл бұрын
No. It is a backcountry site. You have to canoe about 3 miles to get to it. You just use the bathroom in the woods. You have to dig a hole and bury your feces at least 6 to 8 inches in the ground.

Is campsite 72 on an island? I thought one of y’all said it was in the video but on the map it looks like it’s not. Basically just wondering if I can bushwhack my way from there to the lakeshore trail.

there is a marshy area separating it from the shore. its about knee high

@@kenanhopkins9691 Have fun! Depending on what time of year you go I do know that they drop the lake level down in the fall/winter so there may be no water separating it from the main land.

Actually going to the same spot this weekend, would you say this ramp is good enough to drop a bass tracker in or not enough area
@jamiern23 жыл бұрын
oh yeah! it is large enough for sure. we put in at flat branch boat ramp. there are actually 2 boat ramps there.
