This here, sir, is by far my most favourite hiking video of all time! Your style & schtick are always entertaining, and you yourself are an inspiring man. I especially appreciated the candor you shared with us with regard to Walking into the Woods with No Worry in you Heart. Not to mention the sense of joy you bring with you on every adventure - even when the trail is breaking your heart! haha! Thanks again, Shug. This particular trip has me champing at the bit to get back out on the trail again.

Thanks for bringing a smile and some trail inspiration to my Sunday. It was not without a little horror that I discovered that I was no longer super-human when it came to trail times. I too believed that these were simply for the advise of old fogies who couldn't keep up with the herd and that I could safely subtract 10-15% from them. I subsequently discovered that I really needed to dig in just to hold these schedules....and I was mortified to realise that my initial assumption might well have been correct but I was still struggling. First off, gorgeous campsites! Boy can you pick them! I too learned Leave No Trace from Troop 151 in Seattle and am now teaching it to my young scouts. In fact we used the same water filter you have at Pete Lake this past weekend. Oh and full sized Pringles cans work well to protect your sandwich, chips and a pudding and fit in the water mesh spot on a pack for trail lunches. Lastly, good tip on wet roots. We learn that fast in the Pacific North Wet. Thanks for sharing!

I recently went on an overnight trip which happened to coincide with the new moon so it was SUPER dark that night. No wind, no bugs and nothing was moving. It was the first time I have ever experienced absolute silence outdoors, it was awesome. If I held my breath, there was no noise at all. I think everybody should experience that, you learn something about yourself in a solo super dark trip.

Looks like a very nice trip Shug. Thanks for sharing. I agree about squirrels being the worst. Those things throw spruce cones at yah! In 20+ years of backpacking, I have never had a bear approach my camp. Have only seen maybe 12 or so while hiking. Thankfully, we don't have moose in WV. We do have a few elk along the Kentucky border. Have had deer come into camp and snort and stamp their feet. I guess they didn't like the fact that I was eating food with dehydrated deer burger in it. Glad you could get out and enjoy the piney woods!
