I have used every version of the Canon 5D! Such an awesome system. The 5D-2 is the camera that changed EVERYTHING. All of a sudden, every photographer become a film maker over night. For better or for worse, the world of photography can be split into two eras: Before the 5D2, and and After the 5D2. . .

The EF lens mount is also the shortest between all the DSLR mounts, except the FD old Canon. This means this Camera can easily adapt any other old lens made for a DSLR of any brand (except the FD as I said) The 5D mkll in particular can change its focusing prism with a split one for manual focusing (I have one made in Taiwan) and still retain its autofocus capabilities if needed

I used to be a profesional portrait photografer and photo teatcher for many years. This is a while back. When I was employed by a medium sized studio chain, I was handed a 5D MK2, a 24-105 F4 L and a 100 mm F2,8. And the strobes in the studio and three flashes and triggers. That was it. I really don't like the EF 24-105, so I usually used my own Sigma Art 24-105 F4, it's much sharper. Anyways. These days I don't have a lot of money, I got a problem with my joints, so I had to stop doing photo full time. But I still shoot sometimes. So I went out and bougth used cameraes and lenses. A 6D, a 5D MK2, a 70D and the first EOS-M. And used glass. I LOVE things that is the "first" of something!! It's like all the work from the producers are put into them, after that it's just minor upgrades. And sometimes they actually remove useful things and replace them with....not so useful features. :) It works fine by me. :) And I still regret selling my 7D.
@ActualCounterfactual Жыл бұрын
I still use my 5Dii for some paid work, as you mentioned, FABULOUS photos have been taken with this when it was released, and it has NOT suddenly gone "bad"... anyone who knows what they do can make miracles with this + some good glass.😊

As a hobbyist I think an "old" dslr can be the best way to get into photography for less money. Nikon and Canon have A LOT of lenses in the used market that can be adapted to mirrorless too. So a good way to start cheap is a old camera, even there are some smallish ones, like a SL1 in Canon and 3000 or 5000 series in Nikon, so you haven't to carry a big camera. There are some absolutely cheapo ones too, a Canon XS for 40 usd with lens (no video, only photo). So everyone can start photography

I'm a hobbyist photographer and Canon user. 5DII is kind of everlasting gem. I'm not into videos however, the still images it produces are top of the tops. But, you need to shoot RAW to get the best. I mainly shoot street photography and most of the time I use the pancake bacause it´s so small and light. I´m loving my gear, it´s great. For the money you just can´t get much better than this.

I have shot football and basketball matches for local newspapers on the 5DMK2. Its autofocus isn't the snappiest but it's good enough for sports photography on a professional level. What more could you ask of a 15 years old camera? Take a look at photographers in regional or even national level games and sports events, most of them will be rocking older DSLRs like the Canon 1Dx. And that's the genre that benefits the most from tech innovations. Between news and studio work, a large number of professionals still earn their living with cameras widely labeled as "obsolete" by tech enthusiasts and armchair photographers.

I have one. Paid 350€ and only a few thousands on the shuttercount. Camera look like new. The build quality is the best. Pro, and still good enough for most. Not a consumer basic plastic model. Only magnesium and made when Canon was using only the best material and handmade skills at Oita factory. 21.1 Mpix is good enough and FF. Together with L lenses it works. Rest is up to the photographer. 1D series and 5D.s. Thats what a Canon RAW shooter needs. Build, batterylife, weather sealing and many many things making these machines able in all kinds of conditions.

CANON 5D MARK II REVIEW: A 15-Year-Old DSLR Still Good?-yes it is!
@gundarsmiks48894 ай бұрын
50mm is such an awkward lens on FF. Its not realy portrait. Not realy wide shot. I kinda dont like it the most actualy. Usualy i suppose people look the best kinda in a middle shot, like pelvis to head or something... Walked around all day just filming stuff... And its just so awkward to find anything to put in shot... Its better for photo though, because you can rotate the camera 90 degrees for a portrait shot. But yeah... i realy dont get it, you have to work around it alot to get anything ok with it... If you have just one lens, a 35mm or 24mm would do so much better. And then go straigh in to 85mm and 135mm. I own a 50mm but its hard to find good use for it actualy...

Older Canons may be more reliable than some other cameras from that era, but I can't recommend them to beginners. There are many nuances with these cameras, and especially the combination of an old camera + an old lens is almost guaranteed to have problems with AF. I don't support this trend of recommending junk from eBay to newbies. It's better to buy something new and more pleasant to use. Of course, you can shoot static scenes with old camera and its quality is sufficient for the web, but shooting static is boring; modern amateur cameras can reliably shoot people in motion, which looks more natural and fun. It often happens that if your model is not a professional, then asking her/him to run and fool around is the only way to get sincere photos. As for IQ - If you don’t need much, then get a more convenient and compact camera. You can shoot something for the web on this camera, but you also can do it with anything. You don't have to do it on a one kilogram museum artifact with just one more or less reliable cross-type AF sensor (if you're lucky) and a mirror that shakes the whole neighborhood.
