The Canon 5D Mk III is the only camera I'd ever developed a genuine emotional connection with. Since then I've owned a D850, eos RP, A7RIV, and Z6/Z7. Nothing matched the 5D III w/24-70 2.8 II combo. Crossing fingers that the R6 recaptures that magic.

Wow, you have quite a lot of experience with different kind of cameras, thanks for sharing! :-) I do agree with you and can totally understand about the genuine emotional connection with the 5d Mark III because I have the same feeling towards it (though my combo would be the 16-35mm L or the 85mm 1.2 L because those are the lenses I have on my 5D Mark III most of the time)... :-) I wanted to get the R6 because I love the sample images as well as the features would be perfect for what I do but then I accidentally bought the R (accidentally because the price was too good not to get it so I could not resist my self from buying it at the end as I was in the shop testing the camera any way~~ hahaha)... So lately, I've been kind of building that connection feeling with my R but still not as strong as with my 5D Mark III~~ haha... But thank you again for sharing your experience and story as well as for watching! Hope you have a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

I used several crop bodies before getting my 5DM3. I have always liked the wide shallow look. Now in 2024, I have given mirrorless a try with first the M50 and now the R6m2. I will keep my 5DM3s until I’m done with photography. Love them.

Yeah, the 5d Mark iii is still a good camera that is still more than capable of producing great results. Sure, modern cameras naturally has technologically progressed in many ways but it does not make the 5d mark iii any less of a camera since it was first announced. I also still love it. Thanks for a nice and informative video, I´m deciding to buy a full frame body, mostly between 5Dii and 5Diii, mark iii seems to be more suitable for some "serious" work, if necessary...
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 2 жыл бұрын
Actually would personally would recommend the mark iii not only for “serious” work but definitely for all round camera as well! One of the most unique colour science in canon cameras, much better lowlight performance, better AF, tougher build, more reliable and just over a more enjoyable camera to use really. :-) So I would highly recommend it if you’re choosing between and don’t mind the slightly higher price of the 5d mark iii… :-) Hope that helps, I thank you very much for watching, wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

@@DavidCuhls Thanks, David, finally I decided to get a 6D I, since I heard on KZbin that it has the best Canon colours, only the 5 D classic is better in colours than 6D I they say... So I have a 6D now, a cheap nifty-fifty 1.8 on it and the image quality is what I expected from a full-frame... There is somehow "more space" in the pictures, I would say... Still struggling to get some sharp eyes, though... But its fun to shoot a full-frame after years of using micro four-thirds cameras🙂Thanks again and good light to you!
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 2 жыл бұрын
Ohh, congrats on getting the 6D! It's also a great camera! Though in terms of colour science, I am still biased towards the 5d mark iii but I have to admit that the 6d is better in lowlight operation. That said for landscapes and food photography, I love the colours from the 6d more than the mark iii. :-) But yeah, it's a great camera that has a lot of practical/versatile features that really makes this camera a joy to use. I love the wifi feature of the 6D as well, not only being able to transfer pictures quickly to the phone but also being to frame the camera from a different perspective and shoot from a distance really opens up a lot of possibilities that I just can't with the 5d mark iii... I also understand what you mean, it's really fun to shoot full frame and I also love the unique look of it. I wish you a lot of fun with it and also enjoy shooting! :-)

Thanks for the compliment and I am really glad/happy that you found it useful! Yeah, the 5d Mark III is still a great camera to use, even today. It is so reliable, still very quick to use and will not let you down. The dynamic range and colour reproduction of the camera is still great and you can still do a lot with the camera!:-) Regarding the firmware update part, it is very easy, just head over to Canon's website, search for the latest firmware for the 5d mark iii, download that to the memory card (but make sure that you've formatted the card before putting the firmware on to it). Then insert the card into the camera and you can install the firmware from there. But if you still would like me to make a video on it, then please let me know and I will try to make one as soon as possible! @DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 4 жыл бұрын
Well, for the start, Megapixel does not determine if the camera can do everything or not nor does it mean better lowlight and faster AF, let’s make that clear... and secondly, you have to determine yourself what you mean by “can do everything”... different photographers will have a different meaning of that... so if this is not the right camera for you the. It just not :-) Thank you for watching though~~

@@DavidCuhls well i was use to taking pictures only on my phone i never use the camera before so my uncle gave me his old camera a canon 400d 10.1 megapixel and i was using that and i learn the camera and i took some great shots. but then i realize my pictures wasn't looking sharp like the girl pictures who lived next door to me. i was using the tamron 18-200 lens that came with the camera and i notice in low light situations the camera didn't take a good picture and i had the iso at the max which was 1600. the camera don't record video and i notice all of this by using another camera that excels in everything that's what i meant by that. what i meant to say was i wanted a camera with a better auto focus and better in low light and can record video when i want to do that. a couple of people told me to go full frame and look at the canon 5d mark 3 and the canon 6d mark 2 i just want to choose between the ywo and call it a day lol.

Hi, what will be the 50mm lens that offers the best trade off between price and image quality for 5d3: 50mm 1.8STM, canon 50mm 1.4, or sigma art 50mm 1.4?
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 4 жыл бұрын
If the image quality is your top priority, then I'd say the sigma art 1.4 (but the art version). That being said, the Canon ef 50mm 1.8 STM has better sharpness and contrast than the Canon 50mm 1.4 and with focus way more accurate than both Canon 50mm 1.4 and Sigma 50mm 1.4 art. The art series of lenses in general has always been known to back or front focus and if focus is crucial to your field of photography, then the sigma art 50mm 1.4 may not be for you. But if 1.4 is absolute a must, then the canon 50mm 1.4 will be your choice (though it's not as sharp as the art lens at the sharpest point). But if 1.4 is not a must and you can get away with the 1.8, then the Canon 50mm 1.8 is a good lens with better contrast controls. Though there will be colour fringing, which you can easily correct later in post with just a click of a button. :-) I hope that helps. With you a great time and have fun shooting:-)

@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 3 жыл бұрын
I am also not quite sure but maybe it depends on the type of autofocus mode you have it set to. If you are shooting a lot of moving objects, then it's probably best to set it to AI SERVO/ continuous AF and set the focusing zone to where you subject is. If you want to be more precise, you can alway set to the sensitivity and the speed of the focusing system in the menu under the focusing tab. Maybe you were also shooting at a shallow depth of field with the lens(?).. So any simple movement can cause the subject to be out of focus because the depth of field is so shallow? But I am not sure about your specific issue either~~ I am really sorry... These are all the scenarios that I could think of so far...

If you want a blurry background, just set the aperture to the lowest value (i.e 2.0, 1.8, 1.4, 1.2, etc.) as it will let in a lot of light and also blurry the background. :-)

I am a beginer and i have 80d. But recently i have been thinking of going ff since i am having hard time on low light and i will be shooting at cold winter most of the time so i need more rugged body. i have 50mm f1.8 stm and 16-35 mark iii with me at the moment. Do you think it is good idea to trade my 80d with 5d iii? i found one mark iii at used market with 33k sc and price is only 700$ only. I want to make videos for youtube and travel photography.
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 3 жыл бұрын
I personally think that for the price, it is pretty much a bargain to get the 5d mark iii at that price. I also think that the colour science of the 5d mark iii is much better as well as comes with a bit better low light performance with the added bonus of the full frame look. However, I am not sure if the low light capability will live to your expectation as the 5d mark iii has a much older sensor and technology than the 80d. Sure, I think that the images of the 5d mark iii is a tiny bit cleaner in lower light than the 80d but the 80d will have enough resolution to trade for de-noising as well as well a better dynamic range than the 5d mark iii. The 5d mark iii is also an entirely new type of camera than the 80d. I think that for the price, the 5d mark iii is definitely worth getting but on the other hand, if you are only getting it to be better in low light than the 80d, I am not sure if it's worth it. Maybe look at something like the 5d mark iv, 90d or even the eos R might be a much better choice if low light is your only concern. Hope that helps somewhat. Thank you very much for watching and also for commenting. Hope you have a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

I have a serious question I shoot fashion editorial portraits glamour and runway Which camera would you go with if you had one choice between the canon 1dx and the canon 5d mk iii need advice ASAP thanks
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 4 жыл бұрын
I would go for the 1dx because the 1dx has better dynamic range, colour depth and faster. If you have to shoot a lot of events where you are hopping from one to another event, the 1dx is also better for the much longer battery life that you don’t have to stop and recharge. But of course, the costs of the 1dx is higher and the weight of the camera is also much heavier as well... so if you can live with that, go for it. But if you don’t need the extra features of the 1dx, the 5d markiii is just fine and will give you a bit more resolution as well. Hope that helps ☺️

Then I have discovered the world of the mirrorless camera with the Panasonic G9 a great camera but limited for what I wanted to do. So then I turn to Sony, I own a A7RIII a great 42 Million pixels with an insane autofocus. But, The Sony lens are extremely expensive. This is the reason I want in 2020 move back to the 5D Mark III and focus on more good lens. We forgot easily that it is not the camera that make the picture it is the lens. I was surprised when I saw some pictures from photographers with a 80D with a 70-200 f2.8 crazy insane pictures.... So yes the 5D Mark III even the II will produce outstanding pictures if you have great lenses. I have made the mistake having a 42 million pixel with no premium lenses.... you get really disappointed by the result. Thank you for the review.

Yeah, lenses really makes a lot of difference and both the mark III and the mark II are still amazing cameras. I personally still use both of them for my professional jobs and with the right lenses, they still produce amazing results. Thank you very much again for sharing your story and experience, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting!:-)

I have a Sony A73, with very good two prime lenses. But I decided to switch to Canon 5D3, because I don't need new technologies to do better photos. Good colors, composition, LIGHT, what do you want to say with the shot. This is what matter.

I think that this is still pretty good for video. You might have to sharpen the video later in post to make the footage feels more alive but otherwise, it's still a great video beast. Great files, good lowlight performance even for today's standard and good codec as well. But if you need autofocusing in video as well as 4k, then this is definitely not the camera that you should get. Though you can hack the camera with Magic Lantern and get RAW recording for videos as well as better frame rates. Furthermore, the video after hacking the camera is so much sharper and will give you that dynamic range similar to shooting with an entry level cinema camera :-)

Hi, thanks for the compliment! Regarding your question, I think that if you don’t mind a form factor of having a DSLR and still wants to have a cheap full frame camera, 5d mark iii is not bad. But also make sure you invest in some good equality optics.. 5d mark iii still can produce great results but putting good quality glass on there will make a huge difference. I also think that the canon eos 5d mark iii is also an easier but am faster camera to operate on the long term and you’ll find that many good quality glass can be found cheaper than Fuji’s equivalent... being a Fuji user as well, I think if you buy the 5d mark iii, you will find yourself using both system differently, not because one is mirror less and the other is a DSLR nor because one of full frame and the other is not... but there is something about the usability in terms of efficiency, practicality and colour science that will make you want to use it for completely different scenarios... but that’s also the reason why sometimes you’ll find yourself carrying both systems to a shoot or just for travel... but that’s just my opinion, if you have any other questions feel free to ask at any time! I hope my opinion somewhat helps 😅😅 otherwise, I wish a great time and have fun shooting! :-)

@@DavidCuhls Hi David, Thank you for your thoughts. :) It’s the Canon lenses actually that got me thinking about 5D. The fact I can use a BlackMagic Cinema camera 6K or C300 II without investing too much into video side. It’s a great bonus. I have thought about Sony, if I wasn’t already with Fuji then could be an option…. then again rocking two high end systems could be expensive. I wanted to ask you have you try to use EF Lens on Fuji system?

What flash would you recommend for this camera??
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you shoot really and what your needs really are. For me personally, I just have two Canon 430EX II flashes and I am done since I mainly just shoot portraits and events with flashes and even then I don't need too much range and features from my flashes but I also like it to be small. That being said, if you want a nice solid flash for this camera I would recommend the Canon 580EX II, I think that this flash, though old, is still a great flash with good sets of features that you can work with in many situations. It can be a little bit expensive if you don't really use flashes that often but I think that it's worth the investment if you are looking for a reliable flash for the long term. However, if you are looking for a nice super compact flash light that just works, then I would recommend Canon EL-100 and the Canon 270 EX II. These are great when you just need external flashes that has good light quality but remain very portable and light but also reliable. :-) Of course you can look at other brands like Yongnuo, Neewer, etc. that give you much better feature and range for a much lower price, but in my experience, they breakdown so easily that I got tired of changing them every now and then... I hope that helps. I wish you a great time and have fun shooting :-)

Thank you for watching, I have just answered your questions in a different video that you've comment: I think that if I could only pick one camera, I would have to pick the Canon eos R. Of course I love the colour science of the 1dx classic and 5d mark iii much more than the eos R's colour science. However, the canon eos R has the dual pixel AF which I find to be really useful with taking portrait shots as well as recording video. Furthermore, the Canon eos R does not only take RF and EF lenses but it also takes EF-s lenses and adjust the crop to the EF-s lenses as well, which is a huge advantage. The dual pixel AF is also nicer to have when using the 85mm 1.2 as I find that the shots are more accurately in focus and the lowlight performance of the R is also nicer than the other two cameras in my opinion. This is even more evident when trying to recover shadow areas since there are lens colour noise in the eos R's images than the other two cameras. The form factor is also nice and much lighter than the other two cameras so if you ever need to be in a situation where lighter bodies matters, then the R is better off as well. Furthermore, the touch screen that can articulate (though I much prefer a tilting screen than an articulated one) proofed to be very practical when shooting landscapes, portraits, still life and street photography for me as well. :-) That being said, I do still miss the colour science of the other two camera and the faster frames per second of the other two camera as well (especially when shooting with continuous AF). I also much prefer the button placements of the other two cameras over the eos R as well.. But all in all, the downside of this camera can be overlooked after sometimes of shooting and the colour science can always be tweaked back in post albeit with a bit of time (but the colour science is still nice overall). Hope that helps :-)

A lot of the lens options can be replaced by cheaper but good alternatives as well such as use the 17-40mm L (second hand is even cheaper) and very sharp lens as well (I used to own it and highly recommend it), you can use the sigma version or the second hand canon 35mm and just ignore the 24-70mm f/2.8. Depending on the version of the 35mm, the 1.8 is much cheaper but will still give you more light and background blur than the f/2.8. And I do still use a cheap lens, the 50mm 1.8 STM and you can also just get the 85mm 1.8 version and ignore the 100mm and the 70-200 for the most part. :-) (but that's just my personal recommendation as a substitute for the way that I shoot, I am sure you can find it for the way that you person shoot as well) :-) I used to do giveaways on my instagram but I don't really do it anymore... Sorry.. With the 5d mark III specifically, I use AWB 95 percent of the time because I find it to be very accurate. But the other 5 percent is usually just me looking for a specific look (such as when doing studio and the camera have no way of knowing my lighting and the specific colour (colour temperature) of the lighting until the light would flash) and experimentations. I used to shoot a lot with kelvin set especially for short films... But now that I don't shoot a lot of short films any more, I rely on the preset white balance from the camera and of course, the auto white balance. Living here in northern europe where the light changes so rapidly (from sunny to gloomy and storm within a matter of 15 minutes), I don't want to worry about changing the white balance, so by setting it to AWB, it helps. I also shoot raw any way, so I can change the WB later should I want to:-) I hope that helps :-) If you have any more questions, feel free to ask at anytime, otherwise I wish you a great time and have fun shooting!:-)

Despite all the cameras I use, the 5d mark iii remains one of my favourite cameras to use with my second favourite canon colour science (the original 1dx takes the first place). the shutter count of your 5dmiii? looks too tough though

Shutter count is approximately 170k (different software indicates a tiny bit differently, so this is somewhere in between). Haha, what do you mean by too tough? This camera is made for handling a lot of tough situations, I know a photographer who also shoots film and his shutter count is about 1.3 million on his camera... so I don’t think that it is about the shutter count any more, as long as the internal components are still functioning, just keep capturing and creating stories/moments! :-)

@@DavidCuhls Just want to upgrade to full frame from apsc and find your video, very good one
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your compliment and I am glad that you found it useful. I think that if you would like to upgrade to full frame camera and don't mind not having the latest and greatest technology, the 5d mark III, 6d, eos rp and 6d mark II are very capable cameras for even today's standard. If you are not into editing that much or just like doing light editing, then these cameras will be able to produce really nice results straight from the camera with really nice colour reproduction. Furthermore, the video functions are still good though not the best in it's class. But will get the job done for sure. Other alternatives (aside from canon) would be the Nikon d610, d800 and the d810. They are great cameras that also produces great results (I don't own them but have tried them before). I don't really recommend Sony so much because of the (in my opinion) weird colour science, not so reliable as well as time consuming when trying to change settings on the go. But that's just my thoughts, I hope that helps somewhat, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask me at any time and I will do my best to answer.
