The C100 MKII... My goodness, you literally spared no expense... This is one of the best in the market, this one is used in a lot of feature films you see today! I didn't know you were ready to go that far. But that is cool! Keep doing those videos, they're awesome!

The main reason is that is IS a video camera, not a DSLR that can record video, dont get me wrong i love DSLR and would love to be able to take pics and record video. But i wanted something nice and simple to setup, i really didnt want to spend a little extra time every setup checking settings. The camera is nice to use for video. Also i have some idea for ASMR content and trying to push it to broadcast spec material

Bufty Fufties Not really feature films. That would be RED cameras, and ARRI. But it is used for a lot of documentaries. Great camera, wonderful in low light.

It took like 3-6 sec. I think its quite good, I usually see in a lot of videos 8-15 secs of auto focus. Personally I like that "speed" a lot.

Mate could you have possibly been on the edge of the minimum focus distance for that lens? Check what that is.

The face recognition works with art as well if you update lens firmware.

aren't you too close for the lease to focus @ around 3:30? im actually looking into this camera to purchase used.

It has a lot to do with the lens also. But i believe that there are different modes that makes it easier to find focus. It might only be set to single point focus, that might be why it can only focus in the middle. But as long as you have a lot of light and stop the lens down to about 5 or 8 f-stop you should be able to reduce the amout of blur in the scene, and get focus easier :D

I have a Canon C100 Mark II, with Canon 70-200 mm 1: 2.8 lens. But, I'm getting a greyed option in the menu, with a lens compatibility warning? Meaning I cannot activate the Face AF or Slow Motion functions.
@texmex97215 жыл бұрын
It only works with STM lenses.

It’s most likely you were too close to your lenses minimum focusing distance.

The Canon 18-135mm f3.5-5.3 is probably the best STM for the C100. I don’t know what lens you’re using but you said 4.5 which sounds like the 10-18mm. The facial locks seems to lock into the eyes. I’ve never had this much trouble with my autofocus facial lock. My STM lenses - EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM * - EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM * - EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM * - EF-S 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 IS STM *

Maybe you said but set to face only autofocus. Face priority will cause the lens to hunt. Find the 35mm f/2.8 STM lens. It’s not a great AF lens either but it’s much faster.
@jamesroxby2309 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but I think an aperture (f stop) of 4.5 is way too low. A lower f stop value means a large aperture opening but results in a very shallow depth of field, my thinking is that the shallow depth of field makes it hard for the lens to grab focus if your head is moving before it gets there. You can use depth of field calculators to work out what range of focus you have.

It's a shame Canon didn't install a touch screen follow focus on this camera like they did with the 80D. I'm on the fence about buying the 18-135 so I can have face recognition with my $4k camera. Thanks for the test video, but I'm not impressed with this lens. Wished they'd update the firmware.

It is really really slow, I will have my C100 II in a week, I was wondering about a STM lense, but what I see here is really too slow. I'd better purchase a sigma Art F1.8 for better bokeh... I already tested the autofocus on a USM II lense and it was pretty fast. Oh yes, what is your mic ? Because it sounds pretty amazing!

Hmm, deadly quiet focus noise so that's good, and the time it took to focus is quite average, so I wouldn't be too bothered with it :) cool camera tho

AF detect is not the best but better than nothing. I've got the C100 so i have nothing in real time. probably would do better in brighter light. man, the C300mkII's af face detection is really amazing!!! but its $16,000.00 so...oh well. too bad this doesnt perform a little better. good test.

to be honest i am not sure how it will benifit, i have look at footage and it has a slightly un natural feel to it. Great for action but ASMR? This was 24p
@Sarahxxx6669 жыл бұрын
DmitriTechMech I really think the same as you, Dmitri :) In other words, I would like your (ASMR) videos to stay in the 24 to 30 fps range. I hope I won't get flamed by those who don't think so.
@TheHDStation9 жыл бұрын
DmitriTechMech 60p is for slow-motion work. it doesn't look natural because it is smooth when played back at 60 frames. play the 60p on a 24p timeline.

Or you can save thousands of dollars and utilize a wider lens with greater depth of field or stop down your lens' aperture. Auto-focus is for amateurs.

Or people that do not have perfect eye sight. That have to rely on AF to be able to enjoy the hobby. Such as myself.
