Its a great little camera and not just limited to beginners.I've used many cameras including full frame Nikon Dslr's but i still enjoy using the M200.It produces great images,has plenty of useful features for more serious photography and can be adapted to use the full range of Canon ef and ef-s lenses.I've never found the operation of the camera regarding menus etc a problem like some say,its one of the easiest cameras to use out there regardless of whether you are used to traditional mode dials and buttons.The only problem(not really a problem) ive had with mine is that if you leave it on......i tend to leave mine on the five minute setting before it switches off.......if you carry it on a neck strap the settings can change as you walk along and the camera moves against your chest as the touch screen is so sensitive.This is easily solved though by putting the screen in the fully upright position so it doesnt contact your body as you walk about. Overalll its a great little camera and not one just limited to those upgrading from smartphones,it is a very capable machine.....very enjoyable piece of kit to use.

Since 2002 has introduced only 8 EF-M lenses. Just three of them are prime and only one is really bright. Canon isn't really enthusiastic with EOS-M cameras and lenses but still support them. Canon is focused in RF mount. In less than two years Canon has introduced 8 RF-mount lenses and much more are coming soon. Panasonic and Olympus micro 4/3 mount was introduced in in 2008, Sony e-mount in 2010, Samsung NX mount in 2010, Nikon 1-mount in 2011, Pentax Q mount in 2011 and Canon EF-M mount was introduced in 2012. Canon was very hesitant and the last to join the mirrorless technology. I don't see a bright future of EF-M cameras and lenses. Canon is focused more in the new RF mount. Probably in a few years the EF-M mount will have the destiny of NX mount, 1-mount and Q mount. It would be more wise for Canon to introduce APS-C RF mount cameras like Nikon with Z mount.

You will get TWICE the amount of detail in 1080p by shooting at 50 or 60fps with the M200 - 24, 25 and 30p are really mushy. The missing mic jack is no big deal. Buy a stand alone Zoom H1n mic if you need better sound, and mount it on a little bracket along with the camera. The internal mic preamps on all the M series cameras are not very good. Go with the Zoom, or something similar, if you want decent audio. If you know how to use it, this is a decent video camera, and it can also take excellent photographs with the right lens!

In Manual movie mode, you should be able to set the aperture and shutter yourself, but set the ISO to a manual value or to auto where it will attempt to auto-expose. Some camera also let you apply + or - compensation with Auto ISO, but I can't remember if the M200 allows this.

@@cameralabs yes, later im eyeing some fast lenses on sigma. I only want sony/canon camera because of i found cheap bnew a5100, a600 and eos m200 here but i like lumix and fujifilm. The Lumix g9+cheap mft lenses and fujifilm(but pricier body lenses).

Would you guys decide for the M200 or the 250D? Main points to decide are: -quality of photos/videos(only if hdmi plugged in) -live streaming -overheating -kite lense (bokeh effect)
@cameralabs3 жыл бұрын
If it were M50 vs 250D, I'd say the M50 has the edge, but for M200 vs 250D, get the 250D as it's better-featured. Plus you can buy a cheap 50mm f1.8 if you want really shallow depth of field effects,
@donlabs3 жыл бұрын
@@cameralabs So you say if I would compare the 250D and the M50 (not mk2), you would recommend the M50? Because I'm gonna buy one of those 3 within the next days and I watched many Videos now - especially yours! Right now my favourite is the M50 as you recommended. Can you maybe just give me 1-2 reasons why you would decide for the M50 here? Just to convince myself :D I think you know such struggles
@cameralabs3 жыл бұрын
@@donlabs I personally prefer the M50 because I like mirrorless cameras with electronic viewfinders, but if you prefer DSLR viewfinders, then get the 250D. They both have v similar features and same quality.

I know this is late, but would you recommend this camera for entry level videography? I'm upgrading from an eos70D. This has a slightly bigger sensor and 4k capabilities. Also seems to do well with heat dissipation because of how small it is.

I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE 3 CAMERA OF CANON 1, G7X MARK 3 2, M200 3, M50 Mostly, the canon G7x mark 3 says that the video Quality & The Audio Quality is better than the M50.. for vlogging purpose.. and also handy camera.. And also 4k provided by the camera in this range... I needed to know about the heating issues of the camera while shooting 4k resolution..

I'm looking to explore photography and am trying to decide between a DSLR such as the Rebel T7 or a mirrorless. Besides the mirrorless being more portable, what other advantages or disadvantages does it have compare with a DSLR? Is one more versatile than the other? I don't do vlogging and am primarily interested in travel photography/landscapes, street scenery, maybe action photos like outdoor activities and live music. Thanks!

@cameralabs Жыл бұрын
Good question. I'd say when using the kit zoom with the M200, they'd be quite similar in quality. The benefit of the M200 is the chance to swap lenses, vs the smaller body but fixed lens on the G7X.
@Error42_5 жыл бұрын
There's still no rubber grip on the front which is a shame. The M100 isn't comfortable to hold, always feels like it will slip out of your hand. Just a bit of rubber like on the G7X is all it would have taken. I still find it a good camera for videoing over a bench though and for the price it's good. The touch focus controls are very useful and I couldn't do without them and that's coming from someone who doesn't particularly like touch screen operated devices.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if you can. Have you tried pressing the shutter button as you're filming, or does that stop the video? Either way, you could always grab stills from the video footage, albeit at lowish resolution.

Thanks Gordon, so it’s an m100 software update which adds 4K. Still 1080 60fps is 10 minutes, I hoped this was solved as the m100 tempt to overheat after shooting a while in 60fps. Having the m100, not going for the update as it’s my 2nd camera, thanks for the great review 🙏🏻👍🏻

Hi, awesome video! I was thinking on purchasing the m200. I mostly want the camera to take pictures of my toddler. She is 2yrs old and moves a lot, so my cellphone fails to get good pictures. Do you think that the m200 would do a good job? I know that it is a different camera but I was also considering the g5 mark ii. What do you think? The only two important things for me are: a)toddler pictures, not videos and b)indoor/low light conditions. Many thanks!

Excellent review, Gordon. You are among the very best camera reviewers out there! I am a big fan of the Canon EF-M cameras. I have the M6 Mk II and it is the best camera I have owned since the old Contax G2 rangefinder. I have been so tempted to get the M200 since it can be used as a camera for KZbin and Zoom and a whole lot of other video streaming apps. But it doesn't have a microphone input jack nor a native video output via USB C (you can use the Canon EOS webcam utility to unlock this feature for Mac or Windows). So this had made me re-think what I really want, a travel mirrorless camera or a better webcam? I think I want the latter, and there are a bunch of USB-C powered webcams coming from companies like Obsbot.

Thank you very much for your review. A couple questions if I may. In terms of pure image/video quality, does this camera offers same quality as the M50? Do you think is there a chance Canon could add 1080p/24fps on a later firmware update?, Regards 🙂
@cameralabs2 жыл бұрын
The sensors and processors are essentially the same, so the 1080p video and photo quality is pretty much the same. I've not checked the 24p updates recently, so don't know if the M200 has it or not, but if it doesn't yet, it's unlikely to now.
