Canon eos R5 - My Thoughts

After having used this camera intensively throughout different conditions and situations, I finally feel the time has come to share my honest thoughts about my favourite camera with you all! Despite bing my favourite camera, there are quite a few downsides with this camera and I will also be sharing these points with you all. Just like in all of "My Thoughts" videos, this video is not an in depth review but rather about my opinion on this camera based on how I used it in case it might help some of you out. I hope you can enjoy this video as well as gain something from it! :-)

I understand what you are saying about the mode dial but there is a good reason for that. It allows you to actually digitally switch between all the custom modes using the menu/function button. So its milliseconds to change modes. It also allows you to use the back screen to change modes. With a physical dial, these things wouldn't be possible. That's why the R3 is like this as well. It is the digital evolution of the analog dial. Liked the video, appreciate the thoroughness

@07:23 re: Screen size R6 smaller than R, R5. Besides the screen differences, they also don't include the a top digital display on the R6, although they include it on the R and R5. IMO there is no other valid reason other than Canon ensuring the R6 doesn't cannibalize R5 sales or reduce the R5 within the lineup. Why was it included in the R? I could see a few reasons: 1) The R was used to test and introduce features and get real, long-term customer feedback; top dial display, Touch Bar, etc 2) The R at it's core is a few gen's older than the R5 and is not in a position to cannibalize the R5, R6 as a mirrorless body, however, these features can still distinguish it and add value to keep it (R) in the active line up. 3) They didn't have the full line up planned out during the development of the R. Or a combination of the previous points.

Seriously, photos with 25000 ISO on my R6 come out just fine with AI denoising in Lightroom.

Hey David, you are stressing out a lot with these long duration descriptive shots facing the camera. You could instead show any footage relating to what you are talking. Anyways many people don't enjoy long talking videos. You can use that as an excuse to replace it with other footage and keep them engaged.

Semi professional!? R5 plus a decent lens is already over $5k I guess I never gonna have a professional camera 😂

I was just referring to the official category of this camera. Of course, the camera has a lot of professional features as well as undoubtably able to produce professional results. However, this camera was also just build/marketed within the category of high-end semi professional cameras.
