The G2 is a classic IMO, similar to the 5D Classic. It just has a special sensor/processor/lens combination that produces a look that hasn't been duplicated. I had the G3 and although it was an upgrade in terms of features, I didnt like the photos as much. The G3 actually has the first Digic processor and a different lens, which Im sure is the difference. I also think the G2 is the closest to a film look out of a digital camera and I have a lot of older CCD sensor Canon and Fuji cameras. My silver G2 stopped working awhile back, so I have a black one now, which I love. Nice video.

I just got mine today. It's super worn and was listed as having screen issues only working in certain modes. I replaced the backup battery and it solved the problem. I now have this iconic camera in fully working condition for the price of a broken one. I'm really looking forward to going out shooting with it. It feels so premium and nice to hold.

Awesome! Great video as always sir. You led me to seek out older digital cameras. I recently got a Canon S90 from 2009 and it’s a tiny little beast that fits in my jeans. $40 bucks with battery and charger 😊 CCD magic

I was just looking at older digital cameras and found a mint G2 with all the original accessories and lens attachments. I'm glad I found your review, although still thinking about whether to get it or not, but I'm starting to be convinced about doing so. I saw another comment about the S90, which I also found online and am considering it. Don't know which to choose, plus I also saw some decent semi-old A series ones from Canon as well.

That’s fair, if the G2 is cheap I’d get it over the s90, just because I believe the lens is better on the G2… but that’s just me. Let me know what you end up doing 👍

I don't have this camera, but I do have a Powershot A590 IS with a 8 megapixel ccd, cute little thing I got for 5$ at a thrift store and it looks like it was never used, not a scratch on the body, and it accepts 32gig SD cards so it's able to take over 9000 shots before filling it's storage which is basically functionally infinite even taking pictures of everything I can, and it makes some nice images too with the image stability deffinitly helping sometimes. Also hilariously I bought a Sony Mavica FD75 for 2$ at the same time and I've ordered everything needed to get it working (Battery, floppies, usb floppy drive) so I'll also be having fun with a wildly different camera soon too. I love my EOS Rebel T6, and ordered a EOS M200 just before I found these (which I will be getting sent out for full spectrum modification), but sometimes it's fun to just play around with some retro hardware. The FD75 and A590 are taking pride of place alongside my EOS Rebel Ti, Polaroid Impulse AF, and Pentax Asahi K1000, even trying to hunt down my family's old tape camcorder just for the heck of it

I have this camera I bought it at Value Village for I don't know not much I threw it in a drawer thinking anything of it a few years back I think I paid like $15 for it if that recently bought a CF card on Amazon so I have to wait till I get that and then order the battery it is experiencing that a 4-megapixel can do just as good as a 20 + -megapixel today I knew this could be true because I had a Minolta 3.2 megapixel camera back in late 90s and that gave very good picture quality but 4-megapixel with all the adjustments you can make on this G2 didn't have that on the Minolta FYI : CANON made this G2 in black ALL WAYS BUT CAMERAS IN BLACK ! I bought the G2 in in color but I didnt have a choice when Buying

I have a G2 and have owned it for many years, but have not used it in a long while since I bought a D90, so I have dusted it off and will give it another run. The main issue is non lens changability and limited memory, but saying that I agree it's not a bad camera.

Fantastic review, Sir! The photos are astonishing and this quality is what I am looking for in a picture. Would you recommend this, the canon s95 or other option for someone who doesn't know anything about photography or editing, I would prefer a slimer design such as the g11 but idk about their ease of use? I would really appreciate your input
@shutterslaps49382 жыл бұрын
Ooh tough one. I’ve owned both those cameras. They are very different- The S95 is tiny, credit card sized. The files are quite flexible in editing in Lightroom or similar. It’s a very easy to use camera that is relatively fast and accurate. The G2 is a slower styled camera. The colours and vibe from the images are great straight out of camera. It can take a little editing too. But definitely not pocketable. My preference: I’d get a G2 while you still can. The batteries for the G2 also work on the Canon 5D classic - so if you find a cheap 5D body you already have the batteries for it. Then keep an eye out for a s95/s90 down the line if one comes up cheap 👍

@@shutterslaps4938 thank you so much brother, I was waiting for this to pull the trigger, got the g2 for $99 maybe not the best price but hey not going to sweat it, got it with all the cables and two batteries; I will definitely going to buy the s95 later on since I would also like one that I can carry around anywhere. Very nice camera (not esthetically tho) and photos. I have some film cameras, a Canon 5D Classic and a Fuji X-Pro2 and I was wondering if there was a compact digital camera like this, very old and cheap, but with a fixed focal length lens like a Ricoh GRD maybe (but the Ricoh costs a lot here). I'd like to buy an old digital compact camera but the zoom doesn't fully convince me.

Come to think of it, most of us use 1440p 27-32" screens today right? That's only 4MP; 3MP when displaying a 3:2 size photo fullscreen, less when a 4:3 photo. And it's not like they look bad or anything, not like they're severely lacking in resolution. The camera of the day though makes every pixel count, the image quality is actually great on a pixel by pixel level. I think that's something G3 did less well than G2, with a less sharp and more colour fringey lens. This just goes to show what a fortunate lens this one is. Apropos lens. It might just be identical to the "Carl Zeiss Lens" on the Sony DSC-S70 and the "Epson Digital Lens" on the Epson PhotoPC 3000Z. Whatever OEM it is, hit gold on that one.

Great video…..I’m into old ccd digital cameras too….thinking on it, my first digital was a Powershot G3, was world leading tech at the time, and images hold up well even today. It’s just refreshing to get away from boring camera bloggers for whom no new camera is ever sharp enough….not enough megapixels lol ….your images prove this totally wrong

Thanks so much 🙏 couldn’t agree more, if the cameras from 20yrs ago made great images, then they should still be good images today?! And yeah the new cameras wish endless bells and whistles bore me 😅
@vivek_v2 жыл бұрын
I have a Powershot G2 (that is older than me) and while it's images might not be technically impressive, the images evoke a certain feeling to them that modern flagship phone cameras can't. The lack of egregious image sharpening, overdone HDR, and natural colors are probably why. The G2 is good enough to make images taken in 2002 seem uncannily good, almost like a time capsule. Though the 320x240 videos definitely haven't aged very well. Sure, there are definitely pictures where the G2 hasn't properly found focus or where the highlights are completely blown out, but its imperfections only reflect the imperfections in life. Some of my fondest memories are when I first got to use the camera when I was around 5 years old. Even though I knew nothing about photography, the camera felt so magical to me. Those images are probably lost to time, but the memories are still with me. Taking pictures, regardless of the camera, still feels magical to me.

I have it on good authority that the s45 is a total beast and would definitely be up there with the G2 in image quality, with the extra advantage of the smaller body. I haven’t tried one yet. But I’ve recently made peace with the body design of the G2 🤣 chonki is the new pocketable
