Thanks for this one. Other day I was filming then upload to youtube... It was only in SD quality... I didn't realize I wasn't recording in 4k. It was 1080... So I'll try again.

Is the histogram viewable in the EVF at all ? I only see it in the main screen .

It is. There is a separate setting for view finder options. I believe it is found in the same menu as the screen options.

Hi! Great overview of this magnificent little camera! Thank you for the info! Question: how do I get my videos to import to a MacBook Pro? Currently, they show up as “mpeg4” and I cannot do anything with them. Any advice?

My advice is get a PC. Just kidding. I'm not a Mac user at all so I can't give advice on how to important using that platform. I'm so sorry. Google search or KZbin should have something to help you. Let me know if you get it figured out.

I heard about that last night. Not good. By the way Canon Rumors on Twitter posted that Canon might be announcing in Quarter 4 a M50 Mark II and a higher end M7 that might have some specs from the R5 and R6, but in a APS-C format. I can't wait to see if this is true.

Import them into the ”Photoapplication”. Then import them into Final Cut, Lumafusion or whatever you use to edit with.

Hi Peter nice concise videos. On my M6 MK 11 with the EVF-DC2 attached there are only 2 options in the "VF info/toggle settings" cant seem to find or select No.3?

You are in wrench menu #4 VF display format. Go to the wrench menu #4 Shooting info. disp. then VF info/toggle settings and it will be there.

Hey Peter, which SD card do you recommend for shooting 4K video on the Canon M6 mark II ?

I have never used any other SD cards except the SanDisk Extreme Pro or the Lexar Professional 64GB or higher. One of my new Lexar cards has an issue not being recognized by the camera, but none of my old ones do. So with that said I would go with the SanDisk Extreme PRO 300 MB/S U3 10. Hope this helps.

It has different picture profiles you can shoot. Not sure which one will give you the look you want. You will need to test each one to see. I did a picture profile test in one of my videos if you want to check them out.

Hello, I have an issue with the LCD display on my Canon M6. The setup is like this: M6 is on a Ronin gimbal, and via Hollyland wireless it is sending video from the camera to Microsoft Teams. The problem is that the LCD on the camera is black, so the cameraman can't see what he is filming. At the same time, the video is broadcasted in Microsoft Teams. The solution that I need is how to have the camera display on when filming? Which setting has to be modified on the camera? Thank you in advance for the reply.

might be a stupid question.. but for some reason my m6 mk ii is stuck at ntsc shutter speeds meaning 1/60 shutter sped instead of the PAL 1/50 even though the camera is set to PAL. am i missing something?and changing the dial just goes to 1/45 instead of 1/50

Hi Peter, thank you for the videos! This is my first camera and I'm just learning about it all. I love it so far! In terms of slow motion, I can't find much information or there. Do I understand correctly that I should shoot in 50fps and then use software to edit it properly slow motion? Thank you!

If you intend to slow your footage down then yes...shoot in 50fps and then slow it down in post.

Hi Peter, how can i overcome the auto shutdown after 45min. When I use the usb-c I cant align the sound. So to align the sound I use a camlink 4k with hdmi. but then I run in the 45 min shutdown. Thanks for your answer..

I am not sure if there is a workaround. I use the audio jack on my computer for my external mic along with the web cam utility from Canon.

Very Good Video. Quick question would you happen to know if there is a setting where I can shoot in 4k but output a video feed to an external field monitor attached to the camera via HDMI at 1080p? The reason is that my field monitor max's out at 1080p. I know I know upgrade... but I have what I have and im just trying to use what I already own. Thanks in advance. Anthony

I don't know for sure, but I think if you record internal 4K on the camera it makes no difference what you output to the monitor. Won't the monitor just display in 1080p?

Touch and drag is all that I am aware of. It would have been nice to utilize the wheel on the back for this feature.

You can use the wheel on the back along with the AF point button/AF point selection button. Press that button and you can move your focus point with the scroll wheel.

Absolutely. Make sure you set your cameras preamps to match your mic.

I updated my firmware on this camera (brand new). Why do I have fewer menu options than you on several menus? For example at 3:15 on the video, you have a red menu 4 options for "Touch & drag AF settings" and I do not. Does anyone know why I would be missing Touch & Drag AF? Or how to make it available?

Are you in manual mode? If not a lot of menu options will be unavailable to you. Make sure your camera is set to "M" and you should see it.

You also need to be in Manual Movie mode. Camera icon 1 Shooting Mode select camera icon that has the M. You should see touch and drag option show up after you make the change.

@@happyfitenergized4872 I'm seeing the same thing. Did you ever get this figured out? Edit: I was able to find the Touch & Drag feature when choosing things for my custom menu. I add it but it appears to be grayed out. I select it and it says "Not available when viewfinder is not attached".

Thanks for your videos Peter, whenever I've had an issue using my M6 mark ii, it's usually been one of your videos that I've ended up watching to fix it. I film myself on camera, for youtube, so I usually have to use AF. Sometimes the white balance appears to change noticeably while filming when there have been no changes in the lighting, it's as if someone has suddenly turned another light on or upped the power to the light, everything just goes whiter. I'm using custom white balance, but AF. Could this be the AF causing this issue do you think, or is it the M6 overheating, which is what I've come to think from finding another thread where someone has mentioned a similar issue. Well that's unfortunate. I have not run into that issue with my camera. Custom white balance has been solid for me with no shifting of color. To be honest, I'm not sure what could be causing the issue on your model. Double check that you are setting the white balance properly and if the problem continues to occur I would try to contact Canon support. Maybe your rendition has an issue like the other person. Wish I had more for you. Sorry.

I'm having a guess that this is due to filming for longer periods in 4K, as it seems to have happened after several minutes of filming, probably at the point that the camera would have shut itself off for overheating, before the firmware update. I'm going to go back to filming in 1080p as I've made the decision that filming in 4k is overkill anyway, for YT (I checked analytics and a very small % of users are watching my videos on TV, most smartphone or computer). So hopefully that will solve it. Thanks :-)

Your camera is probably set to PAL. You will need to change it to NTSC.

Your Highlight alert is probably set to enable. Look in your blue play menu tab #4 Highlight alert. If you don't want to see if parts of your photo have "blown out" highlights then you can set it to disable. Hope this helps.

I just got this camera to record myself playing guitar. I'm recording in 4K and when I move quickly, the action almost blurs. I've been recording 4K on iphone before this camera and had this issue. I'm using the 32mm 1.4 lense. Any thoughts?

Do you want the blurry motion? If not you have to shoot in a higher frame rate. The camera does not go any higher than 30fps in 4k. You can shoot in 60fps at 1080p and create a 60fps timeline when you edit using premiere pro or other editing software.

@@faspete2nd I figured it out. Turns out the shutter speed has to be as close to double the fps as possible. So, shooting in 24fps, the shutter speed has to be set to 50; in 30fps, a shutter speed of 60. I'm in manual mode and had it set to 125 which was creating the bad effect I was noticing. So.... 4K video is all good on this camera! Happy about that!

Yes you can shoot in manual video mode. That's why I was in video mode.

One feature you need to enable is D+. Video dynamic range is really bad on non-C-Log Canon cameras, so this will give you half a stop more DR in the highlights. It's a secret option somewhere I think.

Make sure your mode dial on top of the camera is set to the "video" icon. Press the menu button on the back. Go to camera icon menu option 1 and look in the Movie rec quality. It should be there. If your cameras mode dial is on "M" the 4k option will not be available. Hope this helps.

Turn the mode dial on top of the camera to your video icon. Press the menu button. Go to Red Camera Icon menu #1. Select Movie rec quality. Select Movie rec size. Select the 4K option you want. Select OK and you should be all set.

KZbin 4K displays as 2140. If you shot in 4K and your video is not replaying in 4K a few things might be happening. Immediately after downloading to KZbin your video might not replay at 4K right away. Give it 15min and try watching it again. In addition, check your software settings. Make sure they are correct for 4K when you export.
