Just purchased a slightly used canon pro-10, and I’m immediately realizing after buying my first OEM replacement set of cartridges that I need to find an alternative to OEM after printing 3 “highest quality” 13x19 prints. Lol. I think I’m understanding what you’re saying about the different cycles and purge cycles and the need to replace the entire set after one cartridge empties, now I just have to figure out more info on where to find the correct cartridges and ink supplies. Thank you for sharing and look forward to watching more of your videos to learn more!

Service question: I have owned a Pro 10 for a number of years. Love it. Only use OEM inks. My problem is that device which holds the ink cartridges will not move from right to left. Spent an hour on the phone with a Canon tech. He used all the tricks he knew, but never got any movement of the ink cartridge holder. He recommended going up the the new 300. Before I do that is there any way to have the Pro 10 serviced? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have no idea if there is any place to to have it serviced. April 25 2022 Thanks Chuck

Further comment, or question... instead of changing out all 10 at a time for the spare set, how about if one cart is showing low, take them all out, top them all up and reset them all before replacing them all? Seems similar to the spare set strategy. Peter

Sure! If you can do that in a few minutes. But you simply can not just let the print head sitting in that cartridge change position for a half hour!

Is there some reason NOT to unplug the Pro-10 and similar Canon printers when the printhead is in the center position for replacing cartridges? Doing so would lock the printhead in place and allow plenty of time to refill if someone had only one set of cartridges, yes? Thank you for all your videos!

Excellent video. Had never occurred to me the waste of ink with each purge after a single cart replacement; excellent point. Simple, but excellent point. I have a Pixma Pro-1. Have you done a video on this topic for that printer, or is the process the same (or similar enough) that such a video would be redundant? Very much like your videos. Thank you.

My practice of exchanging complete sets of carts only applies to printers whose cart chips you can reset. That is not the case with the PRO1. But the PRO1 does not run purge cycles when you exchange carts so you don't have to worry. Any cleaning cycles that will occur during printing are trigger by a certain length on time. On the PRO100 IT is 120 hours and in the Pro10 it is 60 hours.

Hi Jose, very useful and thank you. One thing I don't get: it's the need for two full sets of OEM carts. Firstly, here in the UK a full set costs £116 or over $150. That's not peanuts. Also if I used only OEM cartridges, I'd be changing each one as it ran out, not all 10 at once. So how's that different from refilling and resetting my cartridges one at a time? I mean I see about the purging using a lot of ink, but a "normal" user who only uses OEM carts would surely be suffering the same purges of all 10 after changing just one. Sorry to be dense... Peter
@cheo19494 жыл бұрын
I just means that your internal waste ink pads will become saturated a lot quicker. Each Disruption of a cartridge whether you change it or not or whether is it one or ten at a time will generate a purge cycle to re prime the print head as air is internally aspirated when you do that. If you do not refill then you have no choice but if you do that is the practice we recommend to minimize purge cycles after each cart change. If I change one cart every two weeks in 20 weeks I will have generated 10 full global purges. If I change a full set every 10 weeks I will generate only 2 purges. If you are really quick you can reset and fill your 10 carts or....not. Having that extra ready set makes it a piece of cake.,

I do it slightly differently. Each time a cart goes empty I fill and reset all the carts inside the printer. This way I always have a full set and there is no need to have a second set. Yes it mixes the original and 3rd party inks (precision colours) but I can’t see any difference..
@cheo19496 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The only reason I do not push that is because most folks can not reset and fill carts lightning fast. That second set just makes the process be a piece of cake.

I know this is an old video but I hope you will still see my question, as I've just bought a Pro 10S and waiting for it to be delivered. You say that it saves ink wastage if you switch out all 10 carts if one is empty because the printer is dumb enough to purge all 10 carts even if you only change one. This seems like the engineers at Canon are a bit "hard of thinking" but I don't think they are. If they thought to make the printer smart enough to only purge the cartridge that was changed, then switching out all 10 would be the waste of ink and switching out only the one(s) which are empty would be the efficient method. So you see, it's important to know for sure whether the printer purges all 10 cartridges or only the one(s) that were swapped and I can't find the answer in the user manual. So my question is: How do you know that all 10 cartridges are purged when you only change 1? I will email Canon to see whether their designers had the brains to make the printer only purge the cartridges that need purging but who knows if I'll get a response?
@cheo19493 жыл бұрын
How? Because they do. In order for only a single channel be purged you would need a purge pad that was subdivided into 10 isolated zones pertaining to each color cart. HA!!!!! You would not want to pay for that. Purging is performed by Vacuum from said purge pad. Of course they could implement that. But it is not cost-effective for them. But why complain. You are refilling? Simply reset and top off ALL the carts at once. You start at 100%. If you do not...after about 3 full cart fill cycles you will have all your levels at different rates. One cart is removed and refilled and during the subsequent purge the one that was low?is now empty. I call it the Domino Effect. You can 100% avoid it completely by following my suggestions. If you can reset and fill super fast you can do all 10 carts. If not then you need an already set reset and filled and just swap all your carts at once when one is empty. 1 full purge every couple of months is better than 10. Your internal pads lifespan will be extended by 10x as well.

hi, Jose, thanks again fr the excellent videos. I have 3 questions. 1) is RED the only ink that should be OEM when refilling with PCIs? 2) When I bought my Pro 10, I bought an extra set of OEM inks with it--so I have two sets of cartridges. IN order to minimize ink loss, could I just replace the whole set with that extra set when the first original cart is empty, reset and refill all the original carts to use as the future backup set for when the next cart goes empty? 3) you mention that there is a short 5 minute window to exchange a cartridge...is that for EACH cartridge or for all 10--do you have just 5 minutes to replace all 10? Thanks again for all the help you provide.
@cheo19494 жыл бұрын
#1 yes. #2 Use ALL of your OEM carts till empty and fill them one at a time until all 20 have been used. Why waste your OEM inks. Then begin doing full exchanges when any goes empty. #3 The print head will only stay in the change position for 5 minutes. Then it will move back whether you are done or not. You gotta work fast.
@cs69934 жыл бұрын
Is it so important to replace the carts immediately? Will something bad happen to the printer while it waits for you to fill your carts? I would rather just refill and reset the same set of carts inside the printer and plug it back in. Just got a pro 10 and I’m anxious to know how to take care of it!

You can not have a port in the print head without a cartridge for more than a couple of minutes so so if you decide to reset and refill each cart in situ then you really have to work FAST! So now I have more ink and good fresh carts. 2. Buy the Precision Color ink set and reseter. Now when the first cart goes empty, Swap out the complete set to the new OEM inks and carts. 3. Use PC colors and refill the set i just took out, the set that is partial empty that still has OEM ink in the carts. Questom Is mixing the inks a problem filling partial empty carts of OEM ink with PC inks? IF so What's you recommendation to make a clean transition ? Thank you Joe Scott

A purge cycle occurs after each and every cart change. It re primes the print head as it can aspirate air when you remove a cart to exchange it. The Full exchange of carts is only for your refilling and you have two full sets of carts at your disposal. If you are using only OEM then definitely not. One at a time.

Hello, Thanks for your great videos! I have learned a LOT about printers from watching them! I have a Cannon MG63000. I am not a professional printer. I mostly print documents for business or personal use, worksheets for students, and occasional images and photos. I have a few third party inks that seemed to work fine at first, but after a while, seemed to deplete ink levels rapidly, and cause my printer to show error messages which require resetting the printer to fix (turning off/unplugging, replugging and turning back on). I am wondering if you have a suggestion for the best budget option for printing on this printer. I've already seen some of your videos where you have discouraged using a CIS with Cannon printers. Also, I might be interested in buying a new printer entirely if that would help save on ink costs. The refills for the Cannon MG63000 are somewhere around $90/set! I don't necessarily need super high quality. I am just looking for a budget option for refilling my inks that won't make my printer go haywire (either on the cannon printer, or purchasing a new printer, if that would be more economical long-term). Jose, I have a Pro-10 that I have been rotating 3 sets of OEM cartridges through complete sets each time one is emptied. I'm now after several, maybe thirty fillings each set, I'm finding that one or two in each set is unable to take in the whole 32g of ink when refilling. Do I need to start replacing the cartridges with new OEM cartridges or is there something that can be done to "rejuvenate" my current sets to accept the full 32g. The ones that are not taking the full amount are only allowing the weight to get to about 30.32g to 31.50g currently they seem to be just the PM, M, C, and CO cartridges, in two sets, overflowing before reaching 32g. Any advice would be appreciated!
@cheo19493 жыл бұрын
I would worry too much. 32 grams is just the average weight you should be able to load. You likely have a bit of air which is preventing that last ml from getting in. Squeeze the sides after tapping the cart on a table top to dislodge air bubbles. When you squeeze the sides you will see foam. That's air.

Of course not. Why would you want to do that with oem inks? You'd be throwing away a lot of ink that way. This practice is ONLY for third-party cheap inks use. It does not make any sense with OEM cartridges. You must stick to one cart at a time exchanges as needed. You would go broke otherwise.

Yes. A single cart exchange. In fact even simply pulling one cartridge out of the printer and immediately replacing it will trigger a purge cycle and that affects ALL the cartridges. The ink levels seem to be going down at the same level even though I was using only 3 colors. Why? I've been taking advantage of keeping it on and printing to stop cleaning cycles...but after each print it seems to make noises that sound like cleaning...maybe my settings? Any help would be great. PRO 10

Still on my first set of inks just bought the printer.

There is no way you can only use three colors when printing. The noise you hear after very print is the ink pad being emptied it is not a cleaning cycle. Cleaning cycles will occur after every 60 hours regardless whether you print or not.

can you notice much of a difference between oem inks and precision colour inks on paper?

It depends on which inkjet. The PRO100 PC42SE Is near perfect.
