Hi Jose, a Maritime welcome from here in Nova Scotia. Thank you for all the information you provide on printers and printing. I have a Canon pro-200 printer and have been using the 13x19 Pro Luster photo paper for some framing projects. I have started noticing on some of the landscape oriented pictures under constant lighting that they have started to wrinkle. I usually just hang the pictures with two pieces of linen tape across the top and let hang in the mat. I have corrected some of the wrinkles by redoing with one piece of linen tape across the top in the center. I'm wondering if you may have come across this problem, and may know what causes it? Thank you for any possible explanations in advance?

New to Canon PIXMA Pro 10. I’m an artist and will be reproducing prints of my original artwork. Some of the artwork will need to be professionally photographed (I’m getting better at this, but not great yet) before it can be printed. Odd question, but can a professional shop reproduce my prints and it be more economical? (We had 2 of these in my area). Would the shop need a scanned copy, a digital file or a hard copy to produce the prints? I’m assuming there will be a variation in quality, just not sure how much. Does the issue of printing my own verses have a specialty shop print them for me a question of volume? I’m sure I’ll figure all this out over time. Your videos have helped me tremendously!!! Thanks for any words of wisdom or advice. You rock!
@supercybercow53886 жыл бұрын
Hello, there is no simple answer because there are so many parameters that could influence the decision of using a print shop or do everything by yourself at home. In general print shops tend to have higher grade professional printing equipment including printing on large formats eg. A2 and larger - that could be more cheaper for the final user to print on because they are printing large quantities and where economics and amortization of such print infrastructure is more favorable and forgiving for the customer, compared to home small to mid setup that should be maintained. It's true that the overall quality can vary from "oh splendid" to "this is a disaster", on a bad day, but a serious print shop will never allow such bad results to exit their doors, and it's up to you to reclaim and force them to redo bad prints. There is no special reason you must scan your work, unless you done analog photography, or you don't have the original digital sources. But even then you possibly want to scan your work with them having professional scanners. For others you send them or give them digital files in high resolution prepared for print media and you should be fine. Good luck with your work, Cheers.

Thank you so much. That's an awesome image and print. Do you consider the prints from both the Pro-100 & Pro-10 safe to touch or move immediately after they emerge from the printer? I've notice prints from my Pro-100 change color to become closer to my calibrated screen color a few minutes after emerging from the printer. I let them sit and move them very carefully for the first 10 minutes. Am I wrong to do that? Thank you, Dave
@cheo19498 жыл бұрын
Yes they emerge dry to the touch. You need to allow dye prints to degas for about one day. They will then be ready to work with or frame. Not so much with the PRO-10 and it is pigment based.

@cheo19495 жыл бұрын
If you were to say right NOW? I would say yes because you can get it from Murphy's Camera for a net price after rebate of $99.99 plus shipping. Not so with the P600. P600 still uses the Black ink switch valve to switch from PK to MK and back. It will fail in about 2-3 years depending on how often you perform the switch. The CANON's do not share black channels. Print wise they both produce top quality prints color or monochrome.

Known inconsistencies in results during use. You can calibrate the display five times and get five different results. Not so with x-rite. I don't care about brands. Only about their performance which is why x-rite happens to be the industry standard. Just about all profiles you can obtain from paper manufacturers are created with x-rite spectros.

What took so long! I was beginning to think that you weren't all that impressed by the Pro 10. ;) We really need a video showing a direct comparison between a Pro 100 print and a Pro 10 print. I do believe it would be the first of its kind.
@cheo19498 жыл бұрын
+Steve Rix I will do that. Problem is my pro100 is using precision colors inks and the pro-10 is on OEM inks. Not entirely fair comparison but my prediction is the pro-100 will win hands down on glossy paper! Maybe I'll level the field a bit and print to Canon Pro Luster on to printers!

From what I can on my screen this is a beuatilful print with great colors, thanks for sharing. Jose, have you tried, or do you currently have any Moab Lasal Exhibition Luster 300? If so could you do a print video using this paper, or a luster paper comparrision using the Pro-10 and give your thoughts as to the quality of the paper and color reproduction? I am thinking of ordering Moab Lasal Exhibition Luster 300 paper. I recently bought a paper swatch book from Bay Photo which included a small sample of the Moab Lasal and it appeared to be of top quality. I was also impressed with the Moab Slick Rock Pearl, but I just don't think I would use metallic paper as much.

The fanciest I ever get is Red River. I normally stick with Canon Pro Luster. If results with luster is what you are interested in, I can tell you that the pro-10 will OEM inks will produce amazing results on Canon Pro Luster. If you still need to see it on video i can do a short one.
@Rivij8 жыл бұрын
Jose, Thanks for getting back to me. No sir, don't bother wasting money (ink and paper) on me. I actually bought some of the Canon Pro Luster and I have to say that it is probably one of the best papers that I have used so far, and I am going to stick with it. I was using the Canon semi gloss and I didn't like it very much. In my opinion the semi gloss has a cheaper consumer look to it. I waited to go with the Pro Luster because I heard from someone that the Pro Luster and Semi Gloss papers were indistinguishable from one another, and now after using the pro luster I know that isn't true, there is definitely a difference and I much prefer the look and feel to the Pro Luster. I bought some Precision Colors inks and I am going to fill my Pro 10 carts with the inks once the carts I currently have in my Pro 10 are done. I sure hope I get just as good results with the precision colors inks in my Pro 10 as I did the with oem inks, with the Canon Pro Luster.

Hi Jose, hope you receive this message in time. I am tossing between Pro-100S and Pro-10S it's working out to be $155AUD difference between the two. question is should I fork out the extra and get the Pro-10S or save and spend on the inks? I am a serious photographer and have lots of photos to print and am thinking LONG TERM with cart refills etc. How are the CLI42 vs CLI72? which of the two are easier to refill etc. Also do you have any info on any suppliers in Australia on Inks, if not I would have to order from PCinks. I have been watching all your videos and just wanted to say Thank you for all your help so far!!

The PGI-72 are extremely easy to refill. No modifications required. Just a resetter and proven inks which I do not know of a source in Australia. The CLI-42s require a modification to enable them to be refilled. PC is no longer shipping outside of CANADA the USA and UK. I hope he reinstates shipping to AU soon.

Hello Jose, I'm wondering if you can help me or have done a video on this. I just bought a canon pixma pro 10s printer, I connected and everything and it was all fine. The next day I tried printing my art drawings as borderless prints. I used photo paper and normal standard paper. However, when I print, the print out is terrible!! The ink is smudged and patchy (if that's the way to describe it) and still wet!! The print out also contains random lines at the beginning and sometimes at the end. It is not even printing normal on standard paper. What do I do? What am in doing wrong?

In another video I saw that you were very impressed by the Pro-1. This is Pro-10 and the results are very good. So if the results are similar, why buy a much more expensive Pro-1? Or maybe even why buy Pro-10 if Pro-100 does the same job?
@cheo19498 жыл бұрын
I bought it because I buy printers for testing purposes. It is not so I can just have them. That is the reason for this video channel. So in that thought I will likely buy a pro1000 next. If I was just a normal home user without this video channel, I would just one or maybe two printers.
@Maloy78008 жыл бұрын
Jose Rodriguez No, no, no, I meant something different, sorry. I mean not YOU in particular. I'm asking in general. There are three printers in the Pro line - 1, 10 and 100. From your videos I understand that there is no difference in quality. So what's the difference between them then? Speed? Productivity? What is the purpose for Pro-1 if Pro-100 does the job?
@cheo19498 жыл бұрын
The Pro1 with its 12 pigment carts produces incredible smooth tonalities and it's B&W results is are amazing. Now visually when compared to the Pro10 and Pro100 there are no world shaking differences. I will go out on a limb and just say that for the 95% of home printing folks, the P100 is plenty enough. If you want longevity and better results on matte media then the 10 and 1 would be my choice.
@Maloy78008 жыл бұрын
Jose Rodriguez Thank you for that reply. It's been my opinion for quite a while that modern technology exceeds what a human eye can (or want to!) actually see. I'm sure the 12-color Pro-1 will deliver better results IF (!!!) you look very closely at short distance. But those printers produce large prints that people don't usually look at with a microscope. So, hand on heart, would you be able to tell the difference between Pro-1 and Pro-100 prints 10 feet away? Longevity, though, is something I never even thought about. Are you talking about the print's life? Prints made on Pro-1 will live longer than those produced on less expensive models?
@cheo19498 жыл бұрын
You will see differences in rendition. As each pro printer uses a different so called print engine. With well tuned ICC profiles the differences will be minimal and you will choose any one of them over the others and i would probably chose a different print. Longevity between dye and pigment is around 20x for pigment. So if that is important then pigment if the way to go. Remebere 100 and 10 have small carts 13-15 ml and the pro1 has 40 ml carts x 12

Hi Jose, we've recently purchased the Canon Pixma Pro 10s and have been having soooo many issues just trying to figure out how to best get colours to match what we see on screen? I'm not expert on ICC profiles and am unsure how to obtain one for this printer or if you need specific ones for different paper types. Do you have any advice on how I can find the best way to calibrate the MacBook pro monitor (or any monitor) so when I print on Matt or gloss paper it matches the colours i see on screen? Hope you have any advice for me as i've spent hours and hours getting nowhere really.
@cheo19497 жыл бұрын
It's not the printer. It is the MAC OS and your monitor not being at all calibrated for editing images for printing. LapTop Type computers are even worse and much more difficult to calibrate accurately as the "LOOK" changes with the screen angle of view. Serious editing can only be realistically done on a stand alone display. Calibration of such can only be done with a hardware calibrator and the best and most reliable ones are from X-Rite. You monitor is off!. You then edit using that OFF display so now your images are also OFF! You need to do this one thing first. Load a reference standard image and pint it without any editing. Using your PRO-10's default settings. Photo printing then Canon Paper Type. Only print this on real Canon Paper. Choose size and high quality. In the editing app tell IT to let the Pinter control color. MAC color management is totally different than on windows driver. It tries to automate everything and removes the user from the equation. Often resulting in the user wondering what the hell might be going on with color rendition. After printing the reference image you then carefully examine it for accuracy and neutrality. I have lots of color management videos covering all this. The biggest error people commit is getting a printer and immediately printing they skewed images instead of a standard reference one that it not skewed by editing on an uncalibrated display. Send me your email to tooljoe1949@yahoo.com and I will email you one. Show less

Editing on a non calibrated display is like taking your temperature with fever thermometer that is OFF by a few degrees. It needs to be calibrated at the factory but it is not calibrated for image editing. By being way too bright, co treaty, saturated and non linearly neutral. Editing Results? Pretty horrible.

It all depends on what you call a lot or normal amount of ink. A letter size edge to edge print of normal density will use 1-2 ml of total ink. Ink colors are used at varying rates and not at all equally. There are also timed cleaning cycles that these canon printer need to run. I've covered that to the point where it is like beating a dead horse. I have recent video where I discuss that so you have to take that into account when you choose a canon printer.
