You really can only use high quality rechargeable batteries for this camera. I go with 2500 mAh and the Powerex charger. Anything else is pretty much a waste of money. This camera will drain regular AA batteries in no time.

Hi, I just bought my Cannon Powershot S3 IS at at a yard sale for $5 in the box with everything. I’m new with cámaras like this one. My issue I can’t open the battery area to load the batteries ugh it is not opening when I push the button to the right. Is there a way of opening ? I’m frustrated because I’ve been trying and won’t open. I have the books but it does not says anything about if it get stuck

Not sure if you’re still having an issue but while you’re pushing the button to the right also push the flap towards the lenses then it should open.

Probably too late since you posted this three years ago, but most likely they left batteries in there which since leaked inside the battery compartment. You can get it open with some flat screwdrivers and some persuasion but expect a mess inside. You'll need to clean it out with a wire brush or some other method of getting the corrosion off the metal contacts. Happened to mine after it was left unused for 8 years but once cleaned up it worked great.

this is a year 2014 video. r u sure u got this camera for just $ 8 unbelievable.. i may paid $ 350 for brand new for same camera in the year 2006. yes its a good one i using since 12 years.
