Pro 1000 Ink: $700 to buy a new set of ink. Pro 300 $120 for a new set of ink. yes there are 2 more cartridges in the 1000. But my finances can't take the $700 hit in one month. Bought the 300.

Thank you Jose! I've been watching you for years now and have learned so much. I too have a Pro 100 for years now and it still delivers 100%. I just saw the Pro 200 and 300 and was interested in maybe upgrading if they natively printed sizes greater than 1 meter. I currently really enjoy my panoramic Red River Metallic paper prints. I want to print >39 inches. I have not updated my printer's firmware in a long time. Do you know if it's possible to print >39 inches? For a causal 'pro'sumer printing 13" wide, the Canon PRO-200 can't be beat. Color prints are simply outstanding, I doubt the PRO-100 is as good but I haven't done a side by side comparison. Overall the PRO-200 is excellent. It is true as a dye-based printer B&W is more limited, but through some trial and error, good results can be achieved. The biggest advantage to to the 'causal' user is the dye inks that come with the PRO-200. Like the PRO-100 is doesn't clog up and sips ink for cleaning cycles. Its paper handling is certainly superior to the PRO-100. I will say for a newish printer the interface (no touch screen) and interface are a bit clunkier than expected, but once you figure it out it works great. I don't know of a better dye based photo printer out there currently. For $600 it is great, OEM ink prices per mL also aren't that bad even though they are pretty small cartridges. Again since it sips ink for maintenance, it might end up doing better than the Canon PRO-1000 or Epson P900, or at least it gets closer. I only use Canon OEM inks

Jose, Have you had a waste tank fill up on any of your Pro 100 printers? And how many prints on average do you think you can get without refilling on the Pro 1000? I know it depends on the photos how much of what color ink you use.

Just order a pro 300, my pro 10 has error code and stop working, had barely replaced ink cartridges OEM. Can I use those on the pro 300 until they run out? Or will it cause some malfunction for letting the cartridge go empty? Thank a lot for the info.

Love my Canon Pro-100 printer, but have a frustrating problem. My prints now have a pink cast to them. Printer controls color management. Have rechecked that. How can I make sure software management is turned off? It must be, however, since until recently prints have been ok. What settings do I look into? Printer is seven or eight years old. Should I get a new one? Have been looking at the Pro-200. Help! All suggestions would be appreciated!

I think that the key to printers at least between the Pro 100, 200 and 300, is likely going to come down to the quality of the ink used, and not the printer so much itself. Sort of like cameras and lenses... lenses are probably the more important part of the system than the camera body itself (camera is important, but what you put in front of it is probably more important from image quality). Same for printers I would think (of course, some do a better job overall than others, and this is sometimes reflected in terms of price but not always). But at least we have a "workaround" for the Pro 200 (I had a pro 100 which has died and am looking to replace it -- and will likely just get a Pro 200 if I can't find a refurbished Pro 100 from Canon, which is half the price of the 200 but lots of options for third party inks and cartridges than with the Pro 200). The one big lesson I learned with the Pro 100 is that I needed to print something (presumably something that used all colors) at least once every 3-4 weeks. I didn't do this, and realized that if you don't, and the printer stays off for long periods of time, the sponge hardens and gets blocked, and the print head clogs and you have to go through extensive cleaning. I was able to clean it several times and made the Pro 100 last 3 years actaully, but eventually the print head got so messed up from cleaning I guess that it wouldn't print normally and it was either to buy a new print head or a new printer.... (In fairness, printer was obtained during the time when Canon was practically giving them away so I did get my money's worth out of it, but it was a frustrating few years, as I only printed once every other month or so, and in some cases went 2 months without printing. Now I know you need to run the printer at least once every 3-4 weeks to keep the inks and the print head in good shape and not clog up).

Hi. I got my new Epson L8180 2 weeks ago. Already printed +300 photos (mainly A4 and A3). Do you know by any chance what's the difference between Epson 114 inks (for ET8550) and 115 inks (only work for L8160 and L8180). Both series are named "Claria" inks. Now i'm not sure if i choosed correct printer giving the fact that there are only 2 models working with 115 inks. I don't expect to see any substitutes inks on horizon as there are only 2 models working with it. Now is the time to refill Grey ink as it has been consumed ~2x faster than the others C-M-Y. During warranty period i will be only using OEMs, but after that would be great to have a possibility to lower down printing costs. Those are new Epson printers released for EU market. Price is slightly lower for 114 than for 115 inks. Both are Claria inks. Cheers from Poland and see you during Sunday's live.

My question though (and you mentioned this in another video): Is the new inks for the Pro 200 the same or similar to the PCSE42 inks for the Pro 100? I believe you had mentioned something about the reds shifting more towards orange on the original Pro 100 OEM inks, but that Canon figured out something with the Pro 200 so it doesn't do that as much. Was wondering if they now give the same or similar quality as the PCSE42 inks do for the Pro 100.

No. Square sizes intended for scrapbooking and similar work was added to new models such the PRO200 it's not considered a standard size on the PRO1000 so no borderless support.

You cant??? You choose 16x20 in the paper size menu. You insert 16x20 paper in the top feed tray. I need a lot more details as I have no idea what you might be doing wrong.

During the many years of printing my work with three different Canon Pixma pro printers I never used anything other than Canon ink. If you want trouble free printing and prints that last a very long time I would suggest you use Native ink for your printer. Photography is not a cheap hobby and printing photos has a built in cost,so why should you print your own work. I was never happy with the prints that I got when I used film, prints larger than 5x7 were not cheap. When I started digital photography I decided that I would print my own work, it was just more satisfying than out sourcing and I wanted more control over the final product. I also had more control over the type of paper and print size by printing my own work. It was also faster than out sourcing my prints and this was important when I started photographing events. I was also able to make prints faster for family members when I started giving prints as gifts. Printing my own work made me appreciate photography more and prints do look different than viewing them on a computer screen. At times I would come back from a photo trip and had a few photos that I could not wait to get printed,it made me approach photography differently when I was photographing and the final product would be a print.

Thanks Jose. My Pro 10 board failed. I bought a Pro 300.I don't know how to disable the ink monitor you mentioned needed to be done to use after market inks. By your description of what's involved it might not be worth it. I might have overlooked how to disable the monitor in the manual. Thanks.

If you only need 13" x ? And you will not print on Matte then the PRO200. If you will print 13x? On both matte as well as shinny papers then PRO300. If you need 17" x? on all media then the PRO1000.

@@cheo1949 thank you for your response... my situation is a little tricky because i also have a prograph 4000 plotter... which i use for very large prints, but sometimes i want to do borderless prints that are 11x17 or 13x? without using plotter rolls.. the plotter is amazing, but you cannot do borderless printing with sheet fed media... in theory i could use the 1000 ink cartridges in the 4000.. so that's not bad.. but is the 1000 high maintenance? The pro-100 was pretty low maintenance..i would imagine the 200 would be similar

I have booth Pro 100 and Pro 200, using OEM inks, there is no question the Pro 200 has far superior print results, as well as other features introduced with this model. Might be different to people that refill, I do not. Just my 2 cents.

If you were NOPT refilling the PRO-100 with PC42SE inks then yes. The new PRO-200 has better output than the PRO-100 with OEM.

@@cheo1949 Depending of what kind of printing you do, another big factor to consider is the cost of paper. My printing mostly involve high quality papers and the cost is 2-3 times higher then the ink, hence why I use OEM inks with great results. and clients are happy.

Go to the CANON driver support page. Pull up either printer and it will detect your OS and If there is a driver it will be shown on the list.

Not everyone want to or has time to do this. I am retired and I don't want to do it either. I look at it this way. if you can afford a Camera, 4 lenses (say). a tripod. a rucksack or Camera bag AND the Latest printer from Canon, you surely can afford 8 or 10 Cartridges every 2 or 3 months. It used to cost A LOT more back in the darkroom days with paper and chemicals and a LOT of darkroom equipment. Today people have it too easy and don't want to spend on a hobby like we used too.

$130 to $150 every two weeks is a bit much. Unless you are generating an income from your prints. The 200 and 300 are not what I would suggest you buy if you want to use 3rd party inks.

I have a for you… I CANNOT FIND MY printer head for my pixma pro 100. My farther (my hero passed away 3 years ago) he left us his children as well as grand children a bit of $…. I would much rather have him here with us…. So I wanted to get something special a piece of equipment “from” him and work on a business a love and a gift he always told me I had. Photography. I purchased a Pixma Pro 100. Went through some difficult years however I am ready to set this up and get my a** in gear. So excited however I CANNOT FIND THE HEAD PRINTER! I am so devastated but I’m can’t let it stop me… where or how can I get a replacement? And don’t they have IP addresses? Can hey be tracked? I really can’t afford a 300-400 one (on Canon or Amazon) any ideas? Thank you so much.

Some of us just believe in staying OEM inks. Yes they are expensive but jury-rigging the printer etc. et al is just not what I want to be doing. What you suggest is like buying a new Tesla and then trying to get it to run on gas. Crazy.

I understand your point of view. But it's more like buying a normal car and being forced to use the car maker's fuel only. Believe me it's ok to use third party ink. OEM is best of course. But you can cut your printing costs to 1/4 and still obtain outstanding results if you approach it correctly.

God never intended home printing to be done like that. Its a simple plug in and print system almost fool proof….If you are so cheap to not buy new OEM carts then DON’T DO PRINTING AT HOME. Go to a lab and pay them to do it for you. Its going to cost you double but hey remember you choose this way to get printing done
