FYI, some things to keep in mind. Downscaling is not a way to compare because you can introduce interpolation artifacts into the downscaled image. The software essentially has to figure out what pixels to throw out. For example, when you say the "noise is not as noticeable" in the downscaled version, that is because you have removed the extra pixels and the interpolation algorithm has averaged with the surrounding pixels to "interpolate" what should be represented. This often smooths out the image a bit. Also, when you say, "except for the resolution", that pretty much is what sets the R5 apart. More resolution is more pixel data, which is more detail. That also means that a higher resolution camera can show more noise because there is more pixel data recorded.

Instead of downscaling the R5 files I like to upscale the R6 Mark II files to 45 MP using Adobe Camera Raw. I've done a lot of comparisons using Canon's best RF lenses and often I cannot tell any difference at all between the R5 or R6 Mark II at 45 MP. If I use the Enhance Super Resolution feature of Adobe Camera Raw on the R6 Mark II files and output to 45 MP, the R6 Mark II images actually look significantly more detailed and sharper than the native R5 files. From this I saw no reason to buy the R5 since I could print (or crop) equally large from both. Though, I have printed billboards using 8MP 1D Mark IIN files and they looked incredible. I know Sports Illustrated used to use the "super high res" 11 MP 1DS for most of its cover shots and they look incredible to this day. 24 MP is more than enough for any print size. With the $2000 I saved buying the R6 Mark II vs the R5, I bought a 70-200 2.8 IS III !

@@JoseAntonioTellezAijon $$$. I saved nearly $1500 by getting the EF new vs the RF new! And the quality and performance is 99% as good and has other advantages. It is longer but it also is a fixed length which is advantageous when shooting things like hockey where I need to keep the lens/hood pressed on the glass at all times. With the RF the barrel extends/contracts making this nearly impossible.

thANKS .... How do you get the Enhance Super Resolution, Baisicly how do you set it to 45mp? @2nd in your test, did you do the same with the R5(enhance super res), and what were those results...if all things are the same would you not get 90MP from your R5? thank you

I often shoot at 25600 on R6, not a big issue. Either night time or at high shutter speeds u may need even higher ISO.

Thanks! I’d personally pick the R5 for the extra resolution, but I’d be totally happy with the R6 Mark II as well. Both cameras will be perfectly fine for shooting the eclipse

The R5 looks much sharper. I can clearly see the difference in detail and clarity especially when you zoomed in. I might get the R6 instead especially with the price drop - the R6 mk2 is just not worth £2,700.00. I can get the R6 for £1,900.00. If I was to spend that much money, I would go for the R5 which is better. So I am just better of paying for the R6 knowing that there isn’t any other camera in the R range which is better than the R5 that costs more than £3,000.00 .. with an R6 I can also get better glass

Just upscale the R6 files when needed using LR/ACR's Enhance Super Resolution feature. I've done this and when overlayed on the R5 files and zoomed in to 100%, the R6 II files were sharper and more detailed.

Definitely R6 better value. And now with the R5mkii out, the chronic upgraders have listed their R5's now - I've seen them for a mere 1750 if you can accept high birding shutter counts.

At ISO 6400 I see the downscaled image from R5 loosing much more detail compared to R6II. If you don't need to print big images, I don't see the need to pay more for the R6MKII compared to R5.

It is difficult to recommend one over the other without knowing someone's individual needs for both photo/video, budget, etc. So I can't really give a 'one size fits all' recommendation. That said, if I could personally only have one or the other, I'd take the R5 since it has higher resolution and 4K 120p video.

@@ZJMichaels Great video. Exactly what i was looking for. Does the R5 still overheat on 4k60? I want a pro camera with video that will not overheat. I wantt he R5 but afraid of the overheating situation. Some say its fixed others say its not. The images in you video look almost identical.

A live outdoor music venue at night. I’ve shot ISO 64,000 with excellent results using an R8. Your subjects are fast moving at a concert and slow shutter speeds will not work. High ISO Is the only solution.
