A quick primer on the differences between traditional optical-based wireless E-TTL, and the exciting new radio-based system in the 600EX-RT -- and how to control the 600EX-RT in a multi-flash set-up.

Very good explanation by a very good communicator. I have a 600EX RT and now I know how to operate it. You look good in that shirt and hair colour and the black background matches it all. Thank you.

Bought 600 EX RT about 2 weeks ago and I absolutely love the thing :) But after that communication explanation , I will most likely get another one 600 EX RT and the transmitter...... Good stuff Canon :) Now, speed up with the 5D IV - will ya ? ;)

Thanks for this - just got a 600EXII-RT to go with my older 600EX-RT and ST-E3-RT - couldn't get the new one to work with the system - forgot to change the ID on the new flash (37:15 or so). I had changed it to keep that "nefarious guy with red hair" from clashing with my system... Works great now!

I have one 600EXII-RT. How many more should I get? (please don't say 15 lol) Direct flash is okay but prefer to get a better look.

Hello: The number of speedlites you use is personal preference and the type of look you are trying to achieve. If you are wirelessly controlling speedlites that are positioned off camera, you would usually need at least two. Depending on your camera model you would need one speedite to serve as a controller - sending instructions- and one or more acting as receivers. Many photographers favor a 3-light setup where there is a Main light , a Fill Light and a Background or Hair light. If you are photographing a more complex scene or larger area, you may require more lights. We hope this helps.

@@CanonUSA Yeah that's a great help thanks.. I have one 680exII-RT and a RF trigger, should they all be 680EXII-RT's or can I go cheaper and trigger from flash of the single RT one?
