Pokai in Malay language means no money left to keep inside the wallet or running out of money due to spending too much.
@felixt14706 жыл бұрын
Pokai literally means tripping or falling down on the street. In English, the closest meaning,while not a strict translation, would be drop dead. Bat means 8. Originally it refers to the 8 triagram in the Book Of Change. As China declined during the 19 th century, the phrase bastardized to mean a busy body, mostly a nosey woman. Fat Son Geng just mean some nut case is acting up. And sau Seng just mean be quiet. I can't see how those can be bad words.
@UPBEATFOREVER2 жыл бұрын
Yeah,in Cantonese POKKAI seems so offensive.even to me.but if they just tell me in English,go fall drop dead in the street.it is less offensive.i can shake that off in seconds!funny how language works.

In my opinion, the profanity of chinese and vietnamese don't sound that harsh. I feel like a person screaming curse words in English and german, and in Asian languages japanese for instance, sounds more intimidating than in the tonal languages. The final languages are beautiful but they don't have the same intimidation factor that a language like Russian would have if someone was cursing and really mad

This presentation would be far more interesting to watch if the presenter could reduce her expressions and were more straight to the point. The way she talked about it feels rather uncomfortable and unnatural. Also, as a matter of fact, officially, only five words in Cantonese are considered really bad and offensive, i.e. diu, gau, lan, chat, hai, beside them, pok gai, ham ga chaan...etc are not although they are still considered rude.
