Fun Fact: When Mr T made advances towards Adrian, Mr T's Mom left the theater and she really hammered him for disrespecting a woman like that. From then on, Mr T would only play the good guy and would even sing songs about respecting your mother. Gotta love him.

@TheVolourn Some people feel its harmful to play a character that others may not fully detach the actor from the character they play. I can see his mother's point of view. She raised her son to be a positive person, but sending a negative message, make believe as it is, may have bothered her. I know there are a few actors of a certain heritage who are either not comfortable, or refuse to play another race they may look like. Some Greek actors are not often comfortable playing Turkish parts, despite looking similar, due to a negative history of being slaves under Turkish rules once. I know its foolish, but I can see why some people don't like it. Don't forget, we are talking about an old school black mother. Media and theater may not have been high on her list of priorities growing up. But the aspect of social politeness was.
@TheGenieLover
@TheGenieLover 3 жыл бұрын
@TheVolourn Why do you think his mother can't tell the difference? She certainly never indicated that. Why would you even suggest that anyone would think such a vile thing about Mr. T? Another baseless assumption. Why not try to respond to what someone actually says instead of the voices in your head?

Carl Weathers and Burgess Meredith became very close friends while making the first Rocky. There was such a small budget that they actually roomed together throughout the filming. In the commentary track on the first Rocky, Weathers talks about how much Meredith meant to him as a friend and an actor. I think he learned a lot from the older actor. Carl Weathers was just phenomenal as Apollo. In the first two films, he’s the “adversary” for Rocky, arrogant and cocky, but never a one dimensional villain by any stretch..and always a very likable character. Larger than life itself! Always wanted to see Apollo fight Clubber! I think it would have been one hell of a fight and Apollo would have won.

The character development of Adrian is just superb. She transitioned from a shy and silent girl in the first movie, to a supportive wife in the second and here we can see how close and open the relationship is with Rocky when she does not hold up to give him a wake up call with tough love which was what Rocky needed the most. The first time I saw this scene I was baffled by Adrian and it was in that moment that I knew that she was Rocky support and solace. It really made me understand how much Rocky had lost when she was not there anymore and her absence really hit me hard.

He was real close with Nancy Reagan and I love the picture of him at her funeral, everyone else is in a black suit and T is walking around in camo and wearing an American flag bandanna. The awesomeness that is T can't be contained in a black suit.

Was there anything else other than just being him that sold his name so big? Ahh just looked it up he was in wrestling too that could be why. Hulkamania and teamed up with him. Amazing he could get so well known and sell so well with so little, even with a role like this against Rocky.

This is my personal favorite of the Rocky movies. Don't get me wrong, I love the whole series, but this one stands out to me as the one where Rocky has to do more soul searching than the others. It's definitely there in Rock 2 and 4, but I think it's the biggest here personally. He finds out he's been carried without realizing it, Mick dies, he loses not just because he wasn't ready, but because his head was messed up from what was happening. And Apollo admitting that he had a hard time when he lost and still helping Rocky pull it together really makes this my favorite.

This is my favorite Rocky. I disagree with your complaint that Mr. T was too one-dimensional. The fact that he was just this unstoppable angry force made him seem all the more menacing and undefeatable, while a more well-rounded character would likely have more vulnerabilities and therefore would come across as less menacing. Really, the antagonist of the movie was not Mr. T, but rather Rocky's loss of confidence and fear. Clubber Lang is meant to be the outward manifestation of that fear. But if you think of Fear itself being the villain, you could argue that it WAS a multi-dimensional realistic, and well-rounded villain. I do respect your complaint though. And in most cases, I'd agree with you; well-rounded sympathetic villains are usually the way to go. But in this particular film, a simpler villain was best artistic choice to express its theme.

Mr. T is my favorite character of the series also you gotta look at it from his perspective. He talked about how Rocky was ducking him & making him wait. The lines "getting out while you can, don't give this man no statue give him guts" or "He don't fight no real man, he fight them setups" unbeknownst to him he doesn't know Mickey was doing it. He thanks it's Rocky which makes him even more mad. Another thing talked about was his race "Politics man. This country wants to keep me down. They want a puppet like that fool over there" again he doesn't know Rocky isn't behind all this.

Thanks for doing this one. Rocky III gets almost no credit for how good it is. It often gets remembered as "The one with Mr. T" but I think it's so much more. He essentially becomes Apollo from Rocky I, just doing basic title defense fights and doing the movie star thing all while Clubber Lane is doing the serious training with real intensity and drive. His arc in this one movie is essentially a mirror to what Apollo was in I and II. It's really important to the character to get humbled again.

Except for Mick dying, there's a lot more COMEDY in Rocky III. Even though Rocky got more "civilized", I liked that he learned to read, began to do TV commercials and got RICH. If you liked the training montage in Rocky III, you'll LOVE the training montage in Rocky IV.

Great movie. I like the conversation part on the beach between Rocky and Adrian. You know the song "Your The Best" from Karate Kid was suppose to be the theme song but was replaced by "Eye of the Tiger". The scene where Mr T talk dirty to Adrian pissed off Mr T mother she left the screening. The best movie in the franchise is next Rocky 4 :)

My sister and I always laugh that when Mr T made the proposition to Adrian, she didn’t say no lol. Besides that, this movie is amazing, how Rocky was completely defeated, and even though Apollo wanted to help him get up, it wasn’t until Adrian spoke to him that finally admitted that he was afraid. The Rocky saga is truly one for the ages.

This is finally when Creed almost became three-dimensional and not just a flashy Goliath to Balboa’s David. It seemed clear to me that Creed saw things in Lang that bothered him deeply. It wasn’t just macho fight stuff. I think Creed quietly took his role seriously as a role model as the champ for his community, and he was mad as hell that someone like Lang was the champ and had that platform. I think he also saw echoes of his younger self in Lang. We only saw Apollo when he was an established champ, and they hinted in the first film that he had become complacent like Rocky did in this film (e.g., when he wouldn’t pay attention when his manager warned him about Rocky punching sides of beef in the cooler on TV). It’s possible that Creed also was hungry and angry like Lang in the beginning, and just as belligerent and aloof with the media, and that over time, he realized that it wasn’t just all about him. He didn’t like being reminded about that. (I say “almost” because it would’ve been nice to have had a scene when Apollo tells Rocky that this is one reason why he’s helping him defeat Creed, aside from the “favor” fight.)

I know Stallone gets a lot of flack for being a muscle-clad action star who isn't the best actor in the world but I'll give him this: The man is not afraid to write male characters who are vulnerable - the PTSD and breakdown of Rambo in First Blood, the grief, loss, & heartbreak that Rocky feels, etc. How many action stars were doing that in the 80s amongst the wave of Van Dammes and Schwarzeneggers?

An interesting fact about the rocky films is that they are based on real events in boxing history. Like - In rocky 1 the character was based on Chuck Wepner, a journey man boxer. coined as a nobody, that fought Ali and kept on his feet for 15 rounds and managed to knock Ali down in one round. - There also was some similarities with the training schedules. Wepner trained more than ever before the Ali fight and used to finish his daily routine by running up the stairs of Bayonne’s Hudson County Park. Like Rocky did in several of the movies. - Rockys trainer Mick was based on real life bantamweight fighter Charley Goldman. He was also the real Rocky Marcianos trainer. - Wepner later had an exhibition fight with Andre the Giant, that mirrors Rockys clash with Thunder lips. Wepner. like Rocky, was also hurled out of the ring by Andrei. - Apollo is of cource based partly on M. Ali, witch is shown through his personality, and the reference to the hostility between Joe Frazier and Apollo i film 1. - Micks handpicking and reluctance to back Rocky against Clubber Lang, is similar to Gus d`amatos unwillingness to back his own boxer, Floyd Patterson against Sonny Liston. d'amato told Patterson that there was no way he could beat Liston. On this point he was right. Liston can, maybe, have served as a good basis for Clubber Lang. - If the Drago vs Rocky fight was based on any real super-fight, it would have been Foreman vs Ali in Zaire in 1974. Foreman had crushed Frasier before his fight against Ali, and there was very few that belived Ali capable to beat Foreman. When he did, it was like said at the end of Rocky 4, that...he had done the impossible. As an addition the fight took place in a foreign country. - The character George Washington Duke is based on Don King and generally target the dirty aspects og boxing and those who exploits boxers. - The perhaps most unrealistic aspect of Rocky (all of the films) is all the beating he can take and still go on. the only real fighter that can make a comparison is perhaps Jake La Motta.

Next movie Bill Conti wasn't available to do the score, be prepared for *the most 80's* thing you have ever seen or heard!!! Remember it's just for 1 movie, Conti is back after that. In my opinion, the music is an interesting experiment and for 1 movie I can enjoy it. Also, the composer, Vince DiCola, went on to score the 1986 Transformers: The Movie after Rocky IV and he was perfect for that and knocked it out of the park. I don't own many movie soundtracks, but the one from Transformers: The Movie is one I totally had to have! Also, I want to make sure you know, without spoilers here, that not only does the music return after Rocky IV. Stallone does a lot of course correcting of the character. He becomes "real" Rocky again, not Super Rocky. They did a !ot of things right for Rocky V, more than they did wrong. It's just sad that what they did do wrong was really wrong and brings down the movie. But for Rocky IV, it's another Super Rocky movie. Treat it like a popcorn movie, enjoy the songs, the fights, don't take it seriously, and you'll have a lot of fun!!! Another great reaction with Rocky III !!! Best Regards!!!

The Rocky movies are my favorite movies of all time. I’m glad you are checking these out. You are right Rocky 3 is the start of a change in the franchise. 4 is the same tone. 5 tries to go back to the old tone and I like it but most hate it. Rocky 6 is in its own tone and the Creed movies are legit and have the best tone since the first two. Although the tone changes it still makes for great movies. I would say half of the Rocky fans love 3 and 4 and others love 1 and 2. I myself, have seen all of them at least 15-20 times and have to say that Rocky 2 is the best one. I know the first won an Oscar but 2 is so great and deserves more love for being a sequel to a hit movie. Fun fact: Stallone wrote all the Rocky movies and directed 4 of them. It’s impressive when you think of that
