it should be noted that the break time shorts are produced at a different studio and, afaik anyway, with very little staff overlap. so we don't really know whose decision it was to implement the al reveal in break time. for all we know, it could've been tappei himself. it would certainly be on brand for him regardless though, a very confusing choice. they really should air these like during a commercial or smth instead of just uploading them on youtube and calling it a day. and crunchyroll needs to get off their asses and pick these up!!

At first I so agreed with the matter of break time. Although while reading the comments, I remembered that break time is very often for silly extra things. Yes, I think even when they put new or serious information, it's still silly and extra. As long as break time doesn't affect the main anime (which it doesn't) a fact as pivotal as Al's status isn't getting shoved here for the sake of it. If anything, this tells us that they planned a better place to reveal him - a spot better than the first episode of the season. At least, I would hope so; I have faith in Tappei regarding this. The author is always involved in the production, so this happened with his agreement if not leading direction. Hope remains.

As an anime only who watches the break times, this was very disappointing, however now I believe two things can come from it to potentially save the whole mess; 1. They’re setting up for an entirely anime original scene in a future season/cour 2 where Al reveals everything, and the break time is retconned, meaning its inclusion here was sort of a way to remind viewers that they haven’t forgotten about it/know it was supposed to be here (unlikely). Or 2. Later on, Al alludes to something relating to the break time, and we have an anime only flashback of the break time scene but animated fully. Knowing it was poorly done this way is concerning to me about the episodes, but so far I’m really enjoying this season, and this was probably the best episode yet for me. P.S. thank you for making these videos, I love how you’ve managed to cultivate a mostly spoiler free discussion channel about episodes right after they air, I really don’t trust comment sections of the actual episodes themselves (plus there’s usually only braindead discussions going on in them anyway)

Anime only watcher here. When I heard Capella request the Tome of Wisdom and Artificial Spirit, my mind immediately went to Beatrice. I'm not sure that's correct, but she is a spirit (created by Echidna?), and she has her book (it getting destroyed was on a failed loop, so she still has it, right? I need to rewatch season 2, smh). Considering Wilhelm + Mimi's wound, I'm pretty sure that the masked witch cultist fencer is his wife, which brings up its own web of questions. Is she a puppetted corpse, or is her demise widely exaggerated? And, finally. I have no idea what was going on at the end, when the dragon flew off with subaru and crush. Im suspicious about the dragon now actually. Capella implied the flies and dragon were people once, but do they still have agency? Who is (was) the dragon and why did it fly off, or was it just doing that on instinct? Capella could control/possess it, but if it was obedient, it wouldn't have flied off the way it did. Subaru and Crush hadnt transformed into anything yet, and they even managed to make an escape alongside the dragon, before subaru at least was knocked loose and fell into the floodwaters. Ive been humoring the idea that waking in the hospital was his new checkpoint, but he hasnt died since, and considering how much focus we're getting on side characters, i dont suspect he's quite ready for a reset, but like, he's lost his entire leg and is still going presumably. Things are getting wild. Frankly, things are scarier when Subaru doesn't die. Consequences are powerful in Re:Zero.

While I understand the frustration with the breaktime and Al, having been expecting them to use season 3 as the perfect opportunity to bring it up, I don't think it is as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. Is it a bad decision? Certainly so? Is it the end of Re: Zero? No, not really. With the way they are handling, I'm hoping that they are prepping a much larger reveal with Al, maybe even in one of the two upcoming scenes, be it the expectations scene (if you know you know), or the fight scene involving Al. They clearly care about reinserting Re:Zero lore that was cut, with the whole Royal Selection info being proof of that. And with Al being an important character in Arcs 7-9, they're going to have to handle him properly, otherwise he isn't going to make much sense as a character. They haven't botched anything too majorly yet, and Arc 5 has been a joy so far. Definitely be skeptical, but the freaking out is entirely unnecessary.

I have seen some people say that Subaru already knows in the anime version because of the way he talks at the royal selection in ep12 when talking to Al. im inclined to believe now even they knew how to handle it when they were making these episodes. i don't think subaru knew in season 1, as they woulda just had a flashback break time instead of making it take place in episode 1 of s3. the reason why i think they don't even know, is because they cut lines where Subaru was speaking English to Al, because obviously that wouldn't make sense if he doesn't know Al is from Earth. However, the breaktime makes it so that Subaru learned in Episode 1. It's just a really, really weird continuity

I really don't get the point of wasting the Al reveal in this freaking chibi short, like either this piece of information is never going to ever be relevant(unlikely) or it's going to matter and it's gonna have to be reintroduced in the main anime later on(so what was the point of revealing it in breaktime then??) except this time the anime-onlys who watched break-time would have a greatly diminished reaction since they already knew about the information just having subaru already know about it in season 3 would have made more sense, it would be a cheap "sowy for the cut content guys" mive but at least it'd be something and would allow the anime to iterate on this information(aka have the al-subaru interactions that were cut and will likely keep being cut) without needing to re-add a new reveal scene(even if it could have been a hype moment) having subaru not know while al drop hints(like the "advice" thing) would have also been up until a delayed reveal in arc 7 or 9 would have also been a more engaging alternative this thing where subaru cannonically knows while pretending he doesn't up until a re-heated reveal happen is just objectively stupid and doesn't allow for anything I guess the only way I could see them justify it is that the information was already so widespread in the community they might as well include the information early for the dedicated fans who watch break-time but stay anime-only so that they don't simply get it spoilt in the most boring and unengaging way possible (randomly stumbling upon the information while reading some online discourse) like I know in the english community the re:zero subreddit allows for discussion of cut content in anime only discussions, seeing some random post about Al is bound to happen on twitter if you get re:zero in your recomlended topics, random thumbnail spoilers on youtube, and even your cut content videos kept repeating this information every chance you get, I assume this is even worse for the japanese community since they're more familiar with webnovels and so anyone can way more easily read about it from the source for free and spread this information even more + I havent read arc 9 yet but I've heard it's more Al focused? if so then getting this information to japanese anime-onlies would make sense as it would allow them to more easily read-ahead of the anime once it's done airing, though this last point doesn't really apply to us westerners as I think any official(not WCT) western translators(besides the polish one) have started publishing the arc 7 novels, let alone the arc 9 ones overall a lot of rambling just to say I'm kinda sad that out of all the options they went with the most disapointing one, and I say that as the biggest studio puyukai lover there is, it remains to be seen how they'll actually handle the rest of the adaptation, who-knows, maybe this break-time episode will be the key that allows the bestestest anime-original scene in all of animation history, doubt it tho

I'm still hoping and coping that the anime will reveal Al's secret on its own completely regardless of break-time, even if that means contradicting break-time and decanonizing it. It is a failing of storytelling to not include all of your story in your primary form of media and to instead choose to litter it in a bunch of ancillary nonsense. And yes, I do think Tapei putting a bunch of plot and character critical details in side novels just as much a failing. If to enjoy The Godfather, I have to purchase this novelization, that side comic, an untranslated tablet written in hieroglyphics from Egypt, and an unrelated blue-ray of Cars 3 so that I can view an included pamphlet that just so happens to have important details-- I'd sooner not bother and neither would anyone else that isn't a sucker. Granted, I can forgive the LN/WNs a bit more for its disorganization because it's more free-flow and work in progress. But by the time it gets to the anime phase, its been years, and the kinks should already have been ironed out to ensure important details are organized and told effectively. Reveals of this nature should not be shoved to side material, to some chibi 'break time' that few know about, especially given Al's importance later on, and especially when it means certain details in the main anime are not going to make sense. You already have people tearing this series apart because of stuff happening that's unexplained and not making sense, and while all of us super fans can sit here and go "umm acktually it does make sense because this in the novel explains it!" the reality is, they're right and they should feel annoyed. If your primary story-telling medium doesn't show a critical detail, then it didn't happen. It doesn't matter if you have the word of God or the author himself with you to explain, it wasn't done in the story so it didn't happen. Period. So yeah I'm... I'm hoping they're not gonna do what we fear and skip over explaining Al in the main anime. It's a cope but it's what I've got.

1) In the novel the dragon carried both Subaru and Crusch with its claws but I guess here Subaru was somehow able to tie Crusch to the dragon's leg and barely hold on himself 2) That poor dragon was probably himself fooled by Capella. He thought that he is protecting that child from the 2 brutes. But later when he realizes that the child was actually that evil Archbishop that transformed him into a dragon, he decides to fight back

@@FreakazoidRobots Ok so firstly keep in mind that the dragon is an important character and not just some random dude that Capella transformed From his POV, he is just confused and trying to comprehend what the hell has happened to his body. Then he sees Subaru and Crusch just barraging through the window and directing their hostility towards him (Assuming him to be lust). Capella probably transformed into a little girl before going back into the room. So in the dragon's mind it would seem natural that these 2 people are chasing after this girl "Why didn't she changed it back when it started causing problems?" Probably because she just can't. Her authority grants her the power to turn people into ugly abominations so that she alone is the only beauty left in this world lol. I doubt she would have the power to turn them back to humans

It was already cut content from s1 to begin with, it was chosen to be left out and just revealed somewhere else which means Al being isekaid barely matters as decided by the author who is still pretty close with the production anyway. Plus Al wont even be that relevant till much much later so like huh
