I actually really like the elegance with which the anime changes scenes from the novel. In fact, not a single key moment is lost, but at the same time they are cleverly shortened for the convenience of the viewer. It is clear that the team approaches adaptation with love and this is very pleasing And of course Subaru's speech. Best episode of season three so far

Al was isekaid 19 years ago so he doesn't have the same experience as Subaru he was a gladiator ect I think he is Subaru just a literal different path and time Subaru and id say the same about flugel that moment walking home from the convenient store I have a hunch that at that time many different Subarus were isekaid at different times it's obvious that the author backs this idea from having Subaru drastically change off of simple decisions in each what IF story's so Subaru is capable of greatness .. capable of massive change both in mindset and outlook... And can change in appearance either minor or immensely I think Al and flegal are what ifs of Subaru but in the physical sense all having a different take of return by death obviously this is just head canon but I doubt the author would make adult Subaru (with a missing arm) dress and look like a AL variant ... Which makes me just think of the mass possibility of Subarus what if potential Also mind you that besides the what if of Subaru running away with rem all other what ifs Subaru took a name to fit the character or the world gave him a name by reputation which I think could be accurate just like our current Subaru was given a name of little girl user 😅 same could be for Alderbran (gladiator) and Flegal who knew great ones like (Hector) who also looks like a subaru what if

It's such a shame that there is no way to adapt internal monologue well. I feel like a huge part of what made this scene emotional for me when reading it was deeply understanding what characters are feeling and all of Subaru's self-worth talk. The anime didn't convey that deep sense of dispair, I feel like. But I'm not trying to be a doomer. The episode was still phenomenal. It's honestly the best it could've been in this medium.

For the Al = Subaru theory, I think Al is Subaru, but only a version of Subaru. What if Stella summoned Subaru twice? First she summoned Subaru at a place where he could get strong enough to kill her. But when they didn’t work and she realized Subaru, now going by Al, is going to be unable to kill her, she then summoned him again. This time, she chose a place where he would learn to hate her instead, by summoning him to the same city that Emilia is in.

The speech which engraved the Hero Natsuki Subaru not just in the hearts of those who fought alongside him during the battle of the white whale and the arcbishop of sloth, not just of those close to him he saved in the sanctuary but now of those of the kingdom too and most importantly his own heart, which finally accepted, that he indeed is worthy of being called a hero. Knowing where Al is from I love the red light analogy so much. One of the minor aspects of Re:Zero dialogue I appreciate a lot is how Subaru may use a phrase that only makes sense if you’ve been on earth in human society, and other characters will usually act quite confused as to what he’s talking about. But when Subaru says that this is like reaching out to grab a kid who wandered into a red light, Al understood what he was talking about. Red lights are probably something that everyone should have no idea about.

I noticed this last episode and this episode basically confirmed it. Everyone thinks that al is suspicious and strange but you have to also realize that Subaru is also a mysterious character to everyone else just as al is a mysterious character to us. This then led to me wondering why Subaru seems to have had accomplished so much more than al and why everyone seems to adore him more than al and I think the anime confirmed my initial thought. Al and Subaru are complete opposites, al is more similar to kazuma than Subaru in the way that al is a survivor who doesn’t want to stick his head into anything that seems to dangerous or bad unless it’s on his own terms while Subaru is a lot more selfless and active wanting to save those he can and makes his presence known. Al acts like a side character because he doesn’t want to stand out while Subaru because of his actions forces him to be acknowledged and seen by others. It’s a intriguing how both are from the same world but have different ways of interacting with this new world though for al it may be because he’s lived here longer which is why he acts this way.

Well Subaru also has return by death Sure he doesn’t want to and doesn’t plan to die. But if he dies or if all is lost he gets to try again. Meanwhile Al only has 1 life, only one shot at surviving and protecting what he cares about, and so he refuses to put himself at risk for anything beyond that. Its also possible he has past traumas about attempting to be a hero like Subaru only for it to scar him for life. Which would explain his reaction here

To be fair it’s the secrecy that makes his reveals later on more dramatic and exciting for the reader. Us finally learning the connection, the time and the character of Al is a question for the reader because we don’t have any idea who he truly is.

After watching this video (still haven't watched the episode), this is the best episode for me because it's basically confirmed Al = Subaru. More specifically, Al is Subaru from another timeline called lust if (I've only read it through the wiki). All the hints are there, Al loves Priscilla, Subaru in that timeline loves Priscilla, they are 1000% plus ultra the same person. The reveal that Al impregnated Rem in another timeline will be PEAK.
