Capitalism and Accounting

This talk explores how we might rethink the typical way in which we understand capitalism, i.e. as a system that allows private ownership of the means of production. I thought this was heading in a different direction than where this ended up. When he talks about the benefit that the customer gets from Microsoft, I have an entirely different take on the situation. Customers are constantly forced to update to new versions of the Microsoft programs which are no better and often worse than the previous programs or their old software becomes incompatible with other software. Thus the customer gets no benefit at all. And using Microsoft employees as an example is fundamentally unfair and underplays the disparity regarding wages for most workers. Many employees are severely exploited and poorly paid and work under sweat-shop conditions (literally and figuratively), so their "benefits" as employees are grossly exaggerated by the accounting system
