Then saw fantastic planet, lightyears aka gandahar, galaxy express etc on video at age six and saw Roger Rabbit three times in theaters at Omaha theaters. And I remember amazing stories had that family dog short episode and Simpsons shorts even when Simpsons debuted. I also saw aeon flux shorts and liquid television at age nine. Then this show at age ten even rented Bebes kids, cool world, robot carnival, Pink Floyd the wall , castle of cogliostro etc on video and at age eleven I watched and taped beavis and butthead episodes and saw mask of the phantasm in Albuquerque theaters at that age even saw heavy metal on Cinemax with Hey Good Lookin, American pop and vampire hunter D on Cinemax etc all introduced me to adult animation

Then i was 9 when i saw Plague Dogs on video and MTV's Liquid TV with Aeon Flux shows then i was turning 10 when i saw this show even Fish Police. Then at 11 i discovered Heavy Metal, American Pop and Hey Good Looking on Cinemax thanks to the city paper saturday tv guide weekly thing and loved them even taped HGL and rented Vampire Hunter D as i became a fan of adulr animation and all showed me it's not just kids stuff. Same for when i saw The Critic, Duckman, The Maxx and The Head on MTV when i was 12 even rented Akira then at 13 saw Aeon Flux (taped epiosdes) the series even rented Fist of the North Star then at 14 saw Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, and more even taped every episode of Spawn at 15/16/17, rented Fritz the Cat at 17 and more. @garethdean63829 жыл бұрын
Vegan Pop Tarts I believe the call it the animation age ghetto or something. If it's not forwardly adult and offensive it's treated as for children. Recent animation has changed this a bit. (Steven Universe, looking at you.) but at the time this was expected to be Tiny Toons. I also like how this is the only episode where Jamett says something positive and uplifting to a character. After this it's all cynicism.
@VeganPopTarts9 жыл бұрын
Gareth Dean Yeah, it's kindof a shame, really. :/ There is just so much potential for great animation that can be geared towards adults, but it's not taken seriously. And yes, Jamett is such an ass.
@Johnlindsey2898 жыл бұрын
But Gareth, before Family Guy or South Park came along, there was Fritz the cat, Heavy Metal, Wizards, American Pop, Watership Down, Spawn TAS, Fire and Ice, Transformers The Movie, Hey Good Looking, Aeon Flux, Fantastic Planet, Ninja Scroll, The Head, Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Wicked City, Liquid TV, Duckman,, Princess Mononoke etc. were adult animations before FG and SP came along
@garethdean63828 жыл бұрын
***** Indeed, it's not a vacuum but it's still an absence. Watership Down is remembered today largely as 'It was supposed to be about bunnies but traumatized me as a kid!' and many others on the list had an exceedingly limited impact. (Plague Dogs, a WSD spiritual sequel evaded even your attention, even things as 'famous' as Fritz the Cat have had a rather limited impact on pop culture as a whole.) Other 'adult' releases such as Transformers were indeed not child's play, but could, by and large, be viewed by children. They tackled adult issues, but seldom controversial ones. They were mostly stuff for young and not-so-young boys. Others, especially anime such as Akira had again a limited impact, deeply affecting a surprising number of people but not achieving mainstream recognition, back in the time when you could still divide the world up into 'jocks' and 'nerds' and computers were a weird, complex technology. They also tended to again address adult issues that weren't particularly controversial (Protecting the environment, censorship, violence.) though the presentation was. (Did they just mention rice balls? No, we must localize. Also,, make the blood green.) In that sort of environment Capitol Critters had little chance of success; it tackled far more controversial issues such as racism, even making allusions tot hings like the LA riots. Such issues were very 'close' to a western (predominately American) audience. It was also pitched directly at the mainstream, having little to differentiate it from any other western cartoon and definitely aiming too hard for the younger demographic. Were it to be considered today I suspect it would be given a more adult leaning, aiming to exclude younger viewers entirely, as most western adult cartoons now do. (Though I am not entirely sure, recently shows like Adventure Time have found a way to mix children's entertainment with surprisingly deep concepts.)

No idea how they thought this style of cartoon could compete with the Simpsons, lol
@VeganPopTarts8 жыл бұрын
There were so many adult animated sitcoms back then. I think they might have just seen it as a fad that they were trying to cash in with. If CC aired during the same time slot as the Simpsons, then yeah, it would have been pretty balls-y of the network lol.

True, it's way better. Smarter.

more satire than sitcom , clever metaphors that point to governments agendas, as a kid is fun, as an adult its fun psychological homework that point you to truths like most did in the early 90's ..

@@psilocybin3819 The whole "the whitehosue is suffering the greatest rat infestation since the Nixon adminstration" bit sold me on the potential for this show.

I would too, but I don't think this show would survive in today's twitter-fueled "cancel culture". Not by a longshot.

the scenes in Nebraska were quite violent for a cartoon at the time.

True, but TBH, this series was not really intended to be aimed at children, as it was made to compete with The Simpsons.
